NO, please don't say there were a bunch of teenagers/kids on that plane. This is horrifying.

Does it seem like the helicopter didn't see the plane until the last moments, when both were heading in to the same spot simultaneously? I can't bare to watch the video.

It is hard to understand why these kinds of close calls/accidents occur. Is there really not more that could be done to prevent this?

I wish the media in these cases would stop trying to get one up on each other -

Do they not realise the sense of hope they’d have given the families by reporting early on that there were survivors?? I find it disgusting.

My prayers go out to those family members waiting for news. My heart breaks for you all

Since the Blackhawk acknowledged visualizing the CRJ to air traffic control, the responsibility of avoidance would be on the Blackhawk. Which is why I suspect that maybe the Blackhawk was visualizing a different aircraft that they thought was the CRJ aircraft control was referring to. JMO
In the video clip where the two aircraft collide, you can clearly see another aircraft flying not far above. I wonder if the Blackhawk pilot got confused as to which aircraft the air traffic control was referring to?

Quite likely. Plus anyone can get a sudden onset of fever and become really confused. Just speculating, of course.

Theres not believed to be any survivors, this is a recovery mission per presser on cnn

That is my thought as well.

Air traffic control uses different frequencies to communicate with commercial aircraft and military aircraft so the CRJ would not have heard the exchange between the Blackhawk and ATC.

This piece of information may come into play later. WiseOwl's post is a tiny bit revealing.
