Dr. Earl Bradley's attorneys back out

"The two Wilmington attorneys hired by alleged pedophile pediatrician Earl B. Bradley to defend him against charges of raping or sexually abusing 103 patients have left the case, putting Bradley's defense in the hands of taxpayer-funded lawyers.

Gene Maurer said Wednesday that he and fellow private attorney Paul Kania cannot defend the Lewes doctor because Attorney General Beau Biden's office has filed court papers seeking to freeze Bradley's assets.

Maurer, who was pursuing a mental health defense, said the high cost of expert witnesses is "astronomical" and that if Delaware's Office of the Public Defender handles the case, the state will pay those fees. Public defenders represent defendants who cannot afford to hire a lawyer....."

This would just make my day if I lived in Delaware. Hundreds of kids get raped and the taxpayers have to defend the doctor. Disgusting.

I wouldn't mind if it meant the frozen assets will be given to the victims for their therapy and possible future education.

Salem--I was thinking the same thing. But that would make far too much sense, wouldn't it?

Our kids' rapist's family owns a medical building. You have no idea how much I wish we could have had that taken from them (they continue to deny the abuse occurred). I want to turn it into a treatment center for children with the component of using therapy animals. That makes sense to me.

I would hope that some of Bradley's assets, real estate, stocks, etc.--could be used for some sort of greater good for the children of Lewes, if not specifically for the victims. Remember when the Southern Poverty Law Center was able to seize the buildings used by a white supremacist group and turn them into a community center for elder people of color? I loved that!! That's my idea of justice.

OK-now this could be interesting....why are they freezing his assets? Forensic accounting must have shown something...did he sell his videos? Did he not pay taxes?? Are they preventing him from trying to move everything into the hands of another party???

A thought provoking commentary on watching out for ALL our children. BTW, has anyone else seen the number 200 victims? I thought it was 103. Have we missed new charges?

"Am I my brother's keeper? These famous words that Cain spoke to God after he had murdered his brother Abel are a warning to us.

Are we responsible for watching out for our neighbours and protecting them from harm? Is it up to us to be on guard for others?

Dr. Earl Bradley, a pediatrician from Delaware, is charged with sexual assaults. The victims are more than 200 of his tiny patients.

It turns out he was thrown out of-Florida, New Jersey and Pennyslvania and lost his licences to practise in those states as a pediatrician. His sister warned the authorities of his activities, and they ignored her for "lack of evidence." I can't help but wonder if they actually did investigate to see if there was any evidence?......."

I don't think we missed anything...After I clicked on your link, I clicked on the 'Religion' link just above the column's title, and noticed quite a few 'Corrections' were made to other articles.

Not that I don't believe there *could* be 200+ victims.

Bradley pleads not guilty

"....Earl Bradley pleaded not guilty to 471 counts of rape and exploitation involving 103 victims. A case review has been set for Monday, May 17 in Sussex County Superior Court......

Judge T. Henley Graves waived Bradley's $2.9 million bond and set a new bond at $3.7 million cash.......

Bradley, unshaved, his hair stringy and matted and looking like he lost a significant amount of weight off his 225-pound frame, made his first appearance in Sussex County since December...."

So he was thrown out of three other states?! Gotta love the good ol' boy network.
I hope everyone who knew about him is very proud of themselves.

Great, now the taxpayers of the good state of Delaware (his victims' families, for crying out loud) get to pay for his defense.

Why, oh WHY is this piece of excrement even bothering to request a trial?? Unreal!! :banghead:

Family sues Earl Bradley, Beebe
Doctors, medical society also named

"A Lewes attorney has filed a civil lawsuit against Dr. Earl Bradley, Beebe Medical Center, the Medical Society of Delaware and three doctors, citing negligence, willful and wanton conduct, and failure to report Bradley’s conduct.
Attorney Chase Brockstedt of Bifferato Gentilotti has filed the suit on behalf of parents, F. and M. Doe, and their daughter, named D. Doe. The girl is now 2 years old but was abused when she was 17 months old. The parents have sued anonymously to protect the family’s identity and prevent unwanted public attention to the abuse suffered by the child....."

and

"Because Beebe empowered Bradley to act on the hospital’s behalf, Bradley was subject to the direction, supervision and control of the medical center. The suit says Beebe was on notice of prior unprofessional conduct by Bradley – the suit does not include a date – including suspicions of sexual abuse and allegations of sexual abuse.

As a direct consequence of Bradley’s conduct, the family was damaged sexually, physically, mentally and emotionally, the suit says...."

and

"Brockstedt added that from 2004-05 – when Bradley was investigated for child sexual abuse charges in Milford – and the time when D. Doe was abused, Beebe twice recredentialed Bradley...."

Judge William Carpenter assigned to Bradley case

"Judge William Carpenter has been assigned to preside over the case of Lewes pediatrician and accused pedophile Dr. Earl Bradley.

President Judge James T. Vaughn assigned Carpenter – a Superior Court Judge in New Castle County – the case Monday, March 29.

The move does not necessarily mean the Bradley case is moving out of Sussex County courts. Carpenter said at the moment, the case is still in Sussex...."

Delaware crime: Allegations of child sexual abuse 'not Lewes'
Residents are in shock after more accusations surface

"....."The town is somewhat in shock", a Hewlett-Packard Co. retiree, said. "Every time something happens now, it brings everything else up again. It's nonstop."

One day earlier, Delaware State Police announced the arrest of Cape Henlopen High School football coach Thomas A. Ott, 39, of Lewes on charges stemming from an alleged four-year string of sexual assaults against a now-16-year-old girl.

Ott is being held in Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $128,500 bail...."

and

"....Late last month, Delaware State Police arrested the father of a former Cape Henlopen High School student, Spencer Ashing, after investigators found the 19-year-old's body under a brush-covered tarp. Police said the young man, publicly mourned at his school, was killed by his father, Michael M. Hudson...."

A long list of local and area arrests for child sexual abuse follows in the article. I'd like to believe that this is "not Lewes" but what is?

Number of Earl Bradley civil suits climbs to nearly 40

Beebe, three docs named in cases

"As the criminal case against accused child abuser Dr. Earl Bradley slowly moves toward a trial, civil suits against the Lewes pediatrician continue to mount.

Nearly 40 lawsuits have been brought against Bradley – who has been charged with more than 400 counts of rape and exploitation involving 103 children – in New Castle and Sussex County Superior Court, with more possibly on the way...."

Good. Keep the lawsuits coming.

Currently in the Dr. William Ayres child molestation case, there are five new civil lawsuits, with one having been settled.

I'm starting to think that these suits will become a growth industry. Sad but unavoidable.
