"Prosecutors on Friday dropped their murder case against 35-year-old Yancy L. Douglas and 36-year-old Paris Powell because of witness problems.

A federal appeals court in March ordered a new trial for the men, citing prosecutorial misconduct. The key witness in the case claims he testified only after being offered help on a drug charge and later recanted his testimony."

"A three-judge panel from the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals concluded Smith’s testimony was not reliable and came only after a prosecutor offered to help him get a deal on pending drug charges."

No new trial because of 'witness problems'. That is prosecutor speak for we are no longer able to pay witnesses for their testimony in this case.

(Just another crooked prosecutor caught in the floodlights, but thousands remain for the catching.)
