Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

  • #781
Mom must be tired. Ever since I checked in this morning, she keeps nodding off, only opening her eyes when she hears something or the babies move.

Some up close and personal shots of half eaten fish on the nest this morning, gagging here!

I know!! I can't take that!!! I've seen feedings where their beaks were all covered in blood and the parents were feeding maroon-colored inerts to the babies. That's when it's time for me to minimize the window for awhile.

Raindrops on the lens again and it's hard to see. :(

I was able to grab a couple of screenshots of the Hancock babies this morning. They're awfully cute as well.

I finally sneaked a peek at the White Rock Eagles. The sounds are completely different but very cool. Crickets, frogs, and trains. Oh boy, I cannot get hooked again!

Don't know if anyone caught E3 helping himself to some fish this afternoon but it was so cute!! The baby's growing up on us!

Looking at the White Rock Eagles is like driving through Beverly Hills. I will admit the view is incredible on the wide angle lens, as you are able to see them fly in and out. Pretty cool. The parents are magnificent and look like they just returned from the spa - pedicure and all.

Our Decorah family works so hard and it's so incredible to see all they have endured the last few weeks. E1,E2 & E3 are are getting the best education an Eaglet can get from their parents, which will probably improve their chances of survival when they fly the nest (IMO). They have stolen my heart.

The babies are all sleeping outside tonight!!! I guess it must be a lot warmer than it has been! They are getting so big, they won't fit under Mom much longer.... Can't wait to see them fly!

It's 45 degrees right now :)

The wind is blowing hard today and mom and dad need to do some major housecleaning in the nest. There are dead rodents all over the place, again I'm gagging here LOL!

I really pray for just one good day of weather for our babies and you too Peeples. For some reason, I always thought of Iowa as being calm but you guys have had your fair share of nasty weather since I've been watching the eagle cam.

Entering a very cute stage! All their little furry feathers, adorable!

Helping Mom shield the little ones from the rain.

Apologies for the word doc format. All I could manage was a print screen before they changed positions.

Did anyone catch the moment yesterday when Mom was stuck balancing on one foot in fear to hurting her babies with the other foot. I was worried for a moment that she would lose her balance, but she finally pulled it off.

Even though it's not so pretty to see all the half-eaten rats, fish, squirrels and other dead creatures, it's nice to know that everyone's got enough to eat! It's the way of nature, I guess.

I thought they only ate fish ???

Nope. They love fish, but will also eat rabbits, squirrels, moles, rats, mice, and -- horribly enough-- cats and small dogs if they are exposed in a field, etc. and are easy to get at.
