Does anyone know if this is the mom or the dad?

This is the mama. I wish she would get out of the way so we can see the babies lol. She is feeding them now but blocking the camera.

It looked like it to me-- but if not, then at least the top half. There was an intact half shell when I last saw it.

Ok so we have Sassy Pants #1, Wobble Head #2, and we have to wait to see a personality on this one then we can name it. =)

Thank y'all for keeping me up to speed today! My work computer didn't want me to have any birdie time apparently!

Good link. I wonder who gets the task of banding? Although I am facinated watching this and watching buzzards and hawks fly and soar on wind drafts, I am scared of big birds. I use to have a lot of mocking birds around here, so much fun to watch but they would but the fear in my dog - swoop down and thump her head.

ETA I know these birds are not banded.

Do you know what size dog is safe from a eagle? I always worry about my 11 pound yorkie...there are several eagles in this area. Between the eagles and the big ol' hoot owls, I'm always on edge when he's out doing his recons on the property.

Some more great info on eagles...I apologize if this has been shared before. This is a great relief to me..this is something I've stressed over for a while:

. Q. What is the largest prey animal that they have been known to kill?

A. Good question. The key word here is "kill". Bald eagles are much more opportunists than killers, meaning that if they can get an easy meal without expending much energy (i.e. by killing something) they will do that. So, reports of bald eagles feeding on deer, whales, or other large animals, are usually because they found it/them already dead. Eagles are capable of killing geese, turkeys, swans (especially if they are already somewhat debilitated), and large salmon. I would not be surprised if they took any prey that was under about 3-4 pounds, which would be their max. No type of food item (meat) would surprise me either, except that obviously their favored prey is fish.
