I've wondered what they do when they get their "time off" from the nest! And just because I'm strange I wonder if they count down the minutes until they're relieved of nest duty and get to go out and play again! I know, I need to go back to work now...my brain needs some occupying obviously...

Good link. I wonder who gets the task of banding? Although I am facinated watching this and watching buzzards and hawks fly and soar on wind drafts, I am scared of big birds. I use to have a lot of mocking birds around here, so much fun to watch but they would but the fear in my dog - swoop down and thump her head.

ETA I know these birds are not banded.

For the past 2 days both parents have called out in alarm around 1 pm. It seems like there is something overhead that is causing concern to the both of them...

I wonder if someone in the area has one of those gyro planes? Has a rotor sorta like a copter. It is hard to tell what the noises are with the wind and road traffic... When those birds get disturbed, they almost sound like a barking dog!

Well I thought initially I might be hallucinating but looks like I've got company in my hallucination! I about had a heart attack when I saw the egg cracking. Naturally I need to go out and run errands now

I think it's the mom, but don't quote me on that! The mom is bigger & definitely has more gray color around her eyes. That's how I've been able to tell them apart.
