Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

  • #801
Our little ones are getting so big!

They indeed are getting big!!! They are spending a lot more time out from underneath Mom/Dad too.... I can't wait to see them fly, but I am going to miss this part of it too. They have been a source of light in a sometimes dark world, and I have been inspired by this Eagle family.

Right after my previous post, Dad just flew in and dropped off fresh fish. He checked on things, and then he was off again. I have been impressed also with how well this family seems to eat!

They say eagles are opportunistic feeders meaning they will even pick up road kill if it is available.

Sort of like me feeding fast food McD's to my family when I don't have time to do something better huh??

haven't had a lot of time lately to watch the eagles but the babies seem to be getting a lot darker grey ...

Sassy's causing trouble as usual & pecked at Wobbles so Wobbles went to the edge of the nest & kept laying his head down & right back up again like we do when we're nodding off (lol) then must've decided it wasn't comfortable enough so finally went back to the bowl

I haven't watched today as much as usual because I'm not fond of watching the other camera but from what I read on the chat box or FB earlier today, we might be stuck with this camera until rain comes and cleans the lens off.

Where is the third baby this am?

  • #809
Mom (or Dad) just arrived and am blocking my view-- but I am pretty sure I briefly saw all three sleeping when I logged on a minute or so ago.

(Whew-- I panicked when Reannan asked about the third baby!!)

I saw all three during my morning head count :)

They are all up this morning. Just caught a poop shoot by E1. I honestly can't believe how much they grow from day to day.

They are left alone more and more. And seem very curious. Some jerk is going by and honking their horn over and over again. If the law doesn't get them, I hope two big eagles dump right on top of their car.

they've been alone in the nest for what seems like forever today

haven't seen mom or dad but perhaps one or both is on a nearby branch?
\they've been napping a lot but are wide awake now ... Sassy & Wobbles are cleaning themselves

and all three now sitting straight up! so cute!

Wobbles keeps pecking at Sassy - lol - payback! and Sassy keeps going toward the edge of the nest

all three seem hungry

Sassy seems to have found something to chew on ... not sure if it's straw/twigs or old meat

Baby is eating straw too

Sassy is now calling - probably saying "when's dinner? we're starving!"

that is the first time I've heard a baby "call"

They have such big yellow feet! They almost look fake and the babies seem sometimes not to know how to handle them. :great:

  • #817
now they're making that whiny, screechy noise

they definately want their mom & dad!

two gave up & laid down, one still alert & trying to eat

ok, all 3 back up and Sass & wOBBLES just had a slight tug-o-war over a piece of whatever Sass was chewing on earlier

the tug-o-war only lasted a fraction of a second - wish I had a screenshot - maybe someone will get one from the youtube video
