Decorah, IA - Bald Eagle Cam: Watch the babies! #2

I have been watching this all morning, and every time I turn my back, another one takes to the air, or goes where no camera has gone before. This is so exciting to see them grow, flex their wings, and become eagles.

Video of possible fledging of baby #2 today! Still unconfirmed. Baby #1 has already fledged. :)

I just peeked and all 3 are sitting on the branch- so cute! I wonder if it is normal for eagles to fledge and then come back to the nest? I can see why these cuties do- they have the best mama and dada in the world! :)

They are still honing their flying skills so will need to go back to the nest at times. They still have to eat so Mama and Papa will bring food there. They have to learn how to find food by watching parents. I am glad we get to the this part because soon we won't be able to see their development and will have to imagine. I know they will be watched locally so I hope those reports somehow are shared with us.

The last one fledged this morning according to RRP. This has truly been a wonderful experience!!

Wow, that robin has a death wish! Why is he dive bombing that eagle? Amazing!

I've seen that before in the rural area where I live. If an eagle or another predatory bird gets too close to a nest, the smaller bird will attempt to chase it away. Maybe that is what is happening. (I have not been watching the webcam, so not sure of the context of your comment).

It seems "suicidal" for a smaller bird to be dive bombing such a huge one, but I have seen the larger bird eventually leave the area.

Wow the babies aren't babies anymore, I have watched them for sometime. I hope they enjoy life the best they can. They are famous and don't even know it. I hope they do remember the buddy system and to call when they are going to be late, don't drink and fly, fly away from strangers, look both ways before flying across the street.

RRP is pleased to announce that E1, female, was very safely captured this morning, banded and a transmitter was placed on her. We are in the process of setting up a Google tracking map for everyone so that her movements can be followed. Here is the video of her release after Bob carries her to be released.

Not liking that transmitter at all. I really don't care what they say. How do they know it doesn't bother the eagle? Did the eagle tell them so?

The could at least set them up with a tiny wireless cell phone headset so they could cheep home or leave a text message using their beak, bill or feet. I would love to get a call or text from an eagle.

D-1 (E-2) is home for the Holidays!

Anderson, and the eagle's loyal followers, watched as D1 flew from Iowa, to Wisconsin, even up to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. And he tracked each movement through daily satellite location updates.

"Whenever I open that attachment it's like a birthday present for me. Because I get to see, has she moved?" Anderson explained. "And then the other day I was shocked to see she was on White Tail Avenue in Decorah. I was giddy!"

It appears, D1 decided to come home for the holidays.

She's so beautiful and majestic it almost made me cry!!

Very sad to report that Decorah Dad eagle was last seen 2 weeks ago before a snowstorm and never returned. Mom called for him.A search party was sent out and even drones. It could have been the weather and he was getting old. Another male has been around and he could have fought with dad.Decorah mom has flown with new male but for now she is alone to provide food for 3 babies.
I watched dad for last 6 years.
