To make him look derranged or at least memorable. Again, he would know how to appear as though there was something wrong with him. When he went there he would have known what he was going to do and that police would eventually question the shop-maybe just like the private gun club guy who didn't play along. If he had been allowed to join would he have shown up in the same type reh haired look? Probably, to be remembered and/or to bolster his claim of being mentally ill.

I'm not entirely sure what to think about his mental state.. ie. faked vs.real.. In looking at this picture you will notice IT IS EXACTLY THE SAME DESCRIPTION THE MAN GAVE OF HIM IN THE HUNTING STORE when the shooter was getting his scope put on his gun(and that was July 1st)
He stated that he had wild hair and his eyes wide open, like silver dollars, and appeared to be out of it..
And that is identical to what we see below and what I personally saw in watching his court appearance this morning..

She's now re-reading mother's statement to clarify that initial statement reported by news from mother. (Mother sounds concerned she was misunderstood by news reporting she wasn't surprised it was her son when she didn't know about the shootings yet.)

I feel sorry for his parents and any siblings. Poor things must be going through every little wrong word, wrong action for 24 years in their minds right now.

'He did not have much of a life apart from that and doing his work. James seemed like he wanted to be in the game and be one of the characters.

What girlfriend? Coming from daily mail, I don't find it convincing. The eviction supposedly was because he was no longer a student, and that building only allows students.

This is the way it should be. Why in the world are we glorifying this cowardly murderer by repeating his name every five seconds and posting huge photos of him all over the place?

This is what motivates these creeps, "crazy" or not: They know they will get attention and gain notoriety by doing such a thing and we support that, we make sure their dreams are fulfilled.

It really upsets me!

He is such a phony and a faker, imo. If you think he does not comprehend anything, just remember the complicated trip-wired booby trap he built a couple of days ago, in order to kill first responders.

Until very recently he was in a neuro-science graduate program of which most of us here would fail out of on the first day.

His entire demeanor today was a front, a ruse, designed to get some pity. Did he show any mercy to the 6 yr old girl or her pregnant mother?

Yeah, give me a break. He planned this, people, for months! If you are truly, seriously insane, you can't feed yourself let alone plan such a detailed massacre. He calmly went to various stores to buy firearms so he wouldn't be flagged. He carefully and meticulously booby trapped his apartment. He quietly went into that theater, sat down and then quietly left out the backdoor to arm himself and put on battle gear before he mowed down innocent, unsuspecting and unarmed people. Crazy like a fox more like.

Yeah, he looks "out of it" in the video in court. Probably because he has been up since his cowardly act - high with the excitement of it.

Also, it's loud in jail - not too easy to sleep there.

Is there something wrong with this jerk? Of course. There's something wrong with anyone who chooses to murder an innocent person (or persons). But this creep didn't have anything anyone could have noticed before this tragic mass murder. He went along quietly and calmly while he planned, is what I'm betting. I believe he had enough mental wherewithall to plan this and choose to do it, precisely so everyone would do what they have been doing the last few days - splashing his face everywhere and repeating his name, like he's some hero.

Well then it was an imaginary girlfriend. The woman in the photo is a model. He had a poster of her behind him, to make it appear as if she was in the photo with him.
