When I was in high school my bus driver would do the same thing and pull over and park till the kids settled down. At times we would pull over 4 times a day. Once the kids were so bad the driver took us back to the school.
Yeah, it was annoying, but the kids finally got the message...if you want to get home earlier sit down and BEHAVE!
The bus driver is in charge of many lives on their bus, they're driving a HUGE vehicle....they need to concentrate on driving and it can be hard to do that when the kids are extra loud and acting out.

Yeah, we would get taken back to the school or taken to the bus garage and they would unload us and call all of the parents to pick us up for find another driver whose mind wasn't frazzled.

I'm checking "school bus driver" off my list of career options! That is one thankless job, IMO.

I think that the bus driver was fairly calm. Pulling the bus to the side of the road when the kids are unruly is common practice. I don't think that everything this driver did was proper but, I doubt that this is the last time this girl will be in trouble. If she were my daughter she would wish that she had stayed in her seat and kept her mouth shut. It is obvious to me she has issues with authority figures. I would also be willing to say that this type of behavior is an everyday occurance for her.

yeah the driver was out of control. so was the student. my understanding is there are charges all around and imo there should be.

Who hit who first? I think if a person is attacking the driver, the driver has a right to defend herself, even if the person attack you is under the age of 18.

Why don't they put another adult on these school buses to handle these kinds of situations? The driver should not be having to do anything but drive. How can you possibly handle a situation like this and keep your mind on driving safely? I think this bus driver did the best she could. I think a security guard, a teacher, a volunteer parent, some responsible adult should be riding every bus to make sure things like this don't happen. The driver should be driving and that's IT! Since the drivers are placed in the disciplinarian role, however, they should be able to do what they need to do to keep things under control. It's just my opinion that they shouldn't have to be put in that role. Another adult needs to be there. :furious:

I don't think the bus driver was out of line.

If my child ever acted like that I would ground her until graduation!!!!!!!!!!

You could not pay me enough to teach these insufferable brats and deal with the parents who think the kids do no wrong today or drive a school bus full of them.

   DITTO!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's wrong with kids today? One good look at their parents and you'll find the answer!

You could pay me a LOT more...

I can tell a lot about the caliber of parents when I threaten to call a misbehaving student's parents. The kids who have good parents immediately get scared and beg me to reconsider, offering be extra extra good. When kids shrug it off and continue to be disruptive, it's because they know their parents don't give a ish.

It's no wonder someone could be raped on a school bus! Watching that I could see how the driver's attention was soley on the drama-teen. Anything else could have been going on in the back seats!

Samantha needs to know it's not all about her.

In this video, I see two brats yelling and cussing a bus driver for attention from the other students. I wouldn't have the patience for this job. I truly felt sorry for the bus driver.
If the girls would have used common sense they should have sat down and kept their mouths shut and the bus could've started moving again. But noooo, they have to show off.

As I posted on another thread relating, this girl Samantha, was causing trouble before she even got on the bus, that was why she was sitting close to the front...on NG last night they said the police had to speak with her before the bus EVER LEFT THE SCHOOL......so this was not the start of this..this little brat had already been causing trouble.

I would knock the snot of her of she was my kid.

You're kid and my kid would NEVER do such a thing because as parent we know what the words "responsibility" and "discipline" mean

This girl Samantha is lucky I am not her mother, what a mouth on that girl:eek: . I feel sorry for the bus driver, not only is she she reasponsible for the kids safety she has that brat in her face causing a big scene. She was definatly showing off in front of all the kids and if her mother thinks her little girl did nothing wrong then we all know how Samantha got this way.
At the very least this mouthy brat should be banned from riding the bus.

It was said that there are law suits underway. The girl's name is Samatha Taylor or Tyler I believe. If her parents have the nerve to file suit against this teacher then they are just as bad as she is. Maybe she is a product of her invironment??? She should be kicked off the bus for the rest of the school year...parents drive her to school...plus some good hard restriction. What a big mouth brat!

If the school district fires that bus driver then they should be ashamed. She was doing her job...legally...I hope they don't kiss those parents butts and fire her.

ITA. My kids took a school bus every morning of their entire schooling. Sure kids got out of hand at times but the rules were - if you caused a problem, you AND your parents would get a warning. Second offense - your riding priviledge would be taken away. It didn't often get to the second stage because most parents would deal with the kid on their own. Afterall, if their kid couldn't ride the bus it created a hardship for them.

I wonder how many warnings this girl had before this incident.

I'm with you Christine2448...and the police are recommending charges be pressed against the driver! In the video Samatha said that the driver made sure to stand behind the video camera so she couldn't be seen....where else was she supposed to stand...there is only so much room in the front of the bus. I would guess that the driver was standing beside her seat. Samatha is just ticked because she got caught on the video. I would like to see a video of what happens when her parents tell her "no" but then they probably never do! What a little brat. She needs her butt kicked...hard. There should be no charges against the driver..she was doing her job.

Bad behavior is not tolerated over here. If a child is unruly on a bus, his/her parent gets a note from the driver. Unruly one more time and you are OFF the bus. Mommy and Daddy can haul your disruptive butt to and from school for whatever time is deemed appropriate.....and sometimes it's LIFE! LOL. In this way, only the guilty are punished. Kids are not arriving home later than expected----which can be important if both parents work and the teen is needed to watch younger kids who will arrive home on time.

This driver escalated the situation. She should have remained in her seat. She should never have touched the girl. She definitely should not have grabbed and thrown the phone.

Was the teenager an absolute butt? Yep. But the bus driver is an adult and should have known not to furthur the situation along.

The police happen to agree with me, btw, since they are wanting to charge the driver with assault. I don't know if the prosecutor will concur. I do think charges against the driver are appropriate: adults are not allowed to grab, pull the hair of, or throw the personal property of minors. Ever.
