Whooooo Hooooo! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I hope the BRAT does all 6 months too!

It says the girl got a 10-day suspension for defending her mother. I'd do the same in a heartbeat.

YEAH!!!! I am happy it turned out this way! Justice rules...at least it did in this case.:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I think they both overreacted. If I were the girl's mother I would have told her that she should have sat down and we could have dealt with it later. However, I also would have wanted to smack that bus driver myself for putting her hands on my daughter. I've never hit my kids and I'll be damned if anyone else is going to do it either. If I were the daughter of the school bus driver, that chick who was hitting my mother would be scraping her butt of the bus to this day.

I dunno, if my kid attacked an adult I'd expect the adult to hit back. Maybe that will make me a bad parent, but I'll say "that's what you get for being an idiot."

I wouldn't have hit a kid back unless I thought the kid could actually hurt me. That girl didn't look like she was trying to get blood out of her or anything. IMO

Was there another video released that I didn't see? I didn't think the bus driver really put a smackdown on the kid.

I keep wondering if there's a video that I didn't see because I really don't think the girl was going nuts on the driver. She was talking to her mother on the phone and the driver was on the radio with her dispatcher saying the girl was going nuts. I was like she's not even talking to you! I heard other kids on the bus on their phones saying that the driver was "nuts" and "crazy." The driver tried to push the girl back to her seat and that's when it got out of control, in my opinion. I just think the adult could have handled it better.

I don't think a free pass should be given to all adults that all children should do as they're told 'just because'. This girl tired to call her mom and the driver threw her phone away at that point and wouldn't let her have it back, as a parent I'd be furious that my child was trying to communicate with me during a difficult situation and we were cut off. The girl seems to have no trouble challenging authority but I think the driver let it escalate.

My kids so far don't seem anything like this girl and they'd sure have their share of 'learning' to do if htey ever did but I don't think it's all the teens fault.

I think of Carly Brucha (sp?, sorry) when she was led away by that sick monster that raped and murdered her, she so innocently just walked away with him... damn I wish she had been taught to kick and scream and not blindly go with an adult just cause they seem in charge.

I wish there could be a good balance.

More importantly (IMO anyway!):
Girl charged in fight:
http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/112661
The teenage girl involved in a fight with a Higley Unified School District bus driver was charged with one count of disorderly conduct on Monday and faces a maximum of six months in juvenile detention.

and

The Higley Unified School District has backed Sullivan’s actions, saying she did what she was supposed to do. The 54-year-old driver was placed on paid administrative leave but was recently put back to work in another capacity.
Sullivan will be reinstated as a bus driver Wednesday, said Sara Bresnahan, spokeswoman for the Higley Unified School District. The only reason she was not back to work driving buses today is because the routes had already been assigned, she said.

(much more at links about this story)

The article states it is highly unlikely that Samantha will do any actual time.....probation is expected.

From the article:
The two are seen scuffling for several seconds in the video before Erin Sullivan charges down the bus aisle and attacks Taylor, screaming, "Get off my mom."

Erin Sullivan later says in the video: "Mom, get off her."

Even Erin knew both Samantha AND her mom were out of control!

Erin and another student also faced charges but they've been offered what we call around here "pretrial diversion" which is a program whereby firsttime offenders can complete certain requirements (educational, counseling, outdoor adventure bonding camps, writing letters of apology to those they've harmed, drug testing, etc.) and avoid the charges. This is a wonderful tool for these youngsters, because if they complete the requirements and stay out of trouble for a predetermined length of time, the charges will not show up on their records. Around here, if the teen gets into trouble on any level for two years after the diversion, the charges re-appear and the teen suffers all the consequences.

Samantha apparently was not offered pre-trial diversion or was offered it and failed to comply. I wish I knew which!

Although I agree with the district attorney that the assault charges should not be brought against the driver, I would be more hesitant to rule out charging her with SOMETHING for grabbing Samantha's phone and pitching it. Then I'd offer HER pretrial diversion, and I'd make "anger management classes" a big part of the deal!

Love you, Jeana! Totally agree with EVERYTHING you say!
