Dixie Chicks win five Grammys

She was doing more than just clapping politely. She had a huge grin, was shaking her head "yes" and looked like she was thrilled. Thus, the hypocrite comment.
You say "hypocrite." I say "polite." Sad that you think common manners are seen as hypocritical. :(

That's pretty funny. It wasn't just the "liberals" jumping up. I saw Reba McIntyre standing up during the ovation, smiling and cheering them on. I couldn't believe it because of her snide remarks about the Chicks during the Country Music Awards. Obviously some of the "conservatives" are hypocrites that don't walk their talk like the chicks do.

Which CMA are you talking about, fundiva? The one McIntyre hosted awhile back? In that one she made a joke about the DCX trying to sing with their foot in their mouth. It was funny and harmless -- hardly indicative of a vendetta against the Chicks.

Likewise, the DCX' "blood words" against McIntyre were just a general comment about the type of fanbase McIntyre enjoys. Not really personal (despite the willingness of posters here to hold everything against the Chicks).

Despite the attempt to create a feud between them, I've never been convinced the performers were all that hot about any of it. Maybe McIntyre was genuinely happy for the DCX, or maybe she was just being gracious. Certainly McIntyre knows something about maintaining a long career.

(ETA: in case it isn't obvious, I am totally on the side of the DCX. I'm just not convinced there's really any bad blood with McIntyre.)

He also was in 'Top Gun', one of the pilots...
Do you know which character he played? I'm trying to figure out who he is.

I thought she was classy too until she made the remarks at the Country Music Awards. You would have thought the host would have tried to be diplomatic. Funny how many of you don't approve of the Chicks making remarks about other people, but you are totally behind other country stars doing the same thing, just from the other side. The behavior is the same. If Reba had any class she would have just done her hosting job and kept her mouth shut.

But compared to what people throughout the country music industry were saying, surely McIntyre's little joke was mild. She did not call for a boycott or suggest the Chicks be sent to Iran, etc.

Not to worry. Their record quickly sold out at my local Starbucks. And this ain't country music territory.

Obviously, they aren't selling as many records as they did when they were country darlings, but they are still very successful. And how much money do they need?

I don't care how many records or DVD's they sell. I just won't be one of the ones purchasing them. They did find out that they sure can think what they want and say what they want...but they have to be prepared that the general public may not all agree with them.

I am confident that Natalie is going to shoot her mouth off in the future...lol

I certainly hope so! I like a woman who speaks her mind.

I doubt the Chicks thought everyone would agree with them. But how could anyone have known just how insane much of this country had gotten?

(ETA: In that last remark, I didn't mean you, luv, or posters here. I'm talking about those who felt inspired to send death threats.)

I think it's ironic for people in a country that prides itself on freedom of speech and expression to boycott a musical group that did just that. I don't care if the concert was in a foreign country. Be it England or Iraq, what they did was more American than what their boycotters can say they did.
Hey Paladin, Don't tell me I'm not being or am not an American!!!!!!! That ticks me off!!

If we can be taken to war in Iraq to spread American values (I realize that is only the latest justification), then surely we can state them here!

Flame me all you want, but I'm glad the Dixie Chicks won at the Grammys, especially if there was some politics involved in the win.

As my conservative DH said this evening, it's getting to the point where you can't state your opinion anymore. You voice a view that differs from others and you get attacked and bashed. If you're offended by people's comments, boycott them till the cows come home. That's the beauty of our system--you can safely disagree. The problem is that our culture has taken that right to mean you can also disparage the people you disagree with.

BTW, I also happen to be a big Dixie Chicks fan and think that their Grammy win was based on talent, not politics.

Climbing off soapbox.

She didn't say she was ashamed to be from Texas. She said she was ashamed George Bush is from Texas. As in, he ain't good enough for our fine state.
He's not!

I haven't followed this all that much, but did she actually say something bad about our country? I thought she only said she was ashamed that Bush was from her state.

Death threats??? Wow, I must have missed that. Now that's nuts.

They certainly have the right to speak their minds, but they also have to deal with those that don't happen to agree with them. For me, it seemed like they thought everyone would agree with them. There careers about went down the toilet, but as long as they understand this...it's up to them what they say. I'm just one of those people that's not going to add anymore money to their already fat bank account.

Same with Tom Cruise. I wouldn't spend a dime on anything he involved with. I just don't care for the guy and don't want to add to his bank account (either).

I will give the Chicks credit for speaking their minds...I just don't happen to agree with them. :)

That's offensive. It's fine for you to support the Chicks...whatever...but just because we don't agree with you (or the Dumb Chicks) does not give you the right to say such a thing. :(
