DNA Revisited

i deleted my post. i read back and saw that link was already posted a few pages back... guess a post from tricia wasn't good enough as confirmation so... i'll leave it for her to confirm again :)

Hiya redheadedgal.

It would not necessarily be the case that "a post from tricia wasn't good enough as confirmation".

I would like to know more about the issue.
Trujillo and/or McKinnley may have been incorrect.

dunno where exactly to put this but I am more and more disgusted at what happens lately because of how defense lawyers spin the dna evidence in murder cases....i followed two other high profile cases lately where IMO the right persons were behind bars but were cleared based on "new" dna "evidence" (?).....or better said, lack of dna evidence and "crime scene contamination".....
won't mention which cases i am talking about cause i don't wanna start a fight with supporters but I wonder where this is going and IMO it's getting worse.this ain't normal....no more justice,no more nothing...........

I see.

They sued and lost....so Fox wouldn't have had to retract anything. You seem to know more about it than you first lead on.. so, you know the hair was sourced by FOX News during the August 2002 report by ? Carol McKinley? I've looked and can't find it. Maybe Tricia will ask Carol where the link might be, or even to tell us who her source was for the hair identification.

Yes, it was in fact, Carol McKinley. I saw that broadcast when it came out. (Recorded it, even!)

Cynic, thank you very much for your kindness

These are the 14 DNA markers sumbitted to CODIS
Locus: D3S1358, Vwa, FGA, D8S1179, D21S11, D18S51, D5S818
Locus: D13S317, D7S820, D16S539, THO1, TPOX, CSF1PO, AMEL

Could you tell me, please, how many possibilities are there for each DNA marker?
Thanks!!!

Hi Ama,
What you are asking for is essentially what’s known as an allele frequency table.
At each marker, statistics have established the probabilities of various alleles being found.
As you look through, you will notice that some alleles occur frequently while some are relatively rare.
As an example, (8, 8) at the TPOX marker is found in about 25 – 30% of the population, while (9, 12) would be found in less than 1% of the population.
AMEL is the gender marker, however, for the rest of the markers, Promega has very good allele frequency statistics.
You can access that information at the following link:
http://www.promega.com/products/pm/genetic-identity/population-statistics/allele-frequencies/
I’m not sure what your knowledge level is with respect to DNA, but you might find the following videos from the Casey Anthony trial to be helpful in terms of gaining a good overview.
I edited the testimony of Heather Seubert, a former supervisor in the FBI DNA analysis unit at Quantico, VA.
(Unfortunately, we also have to see and hear Jose Baez in these videos, my apologies.)
The total time is about 20 minutes.

You may also PM me if you need more information.

Cynic,
That frequency table looks promising, I will study it with great interest and, of course, I will watch all the videos with great interest.
I am a mathematician but Statistics was never my focus but I want to learn to understand the DNA problem in these cases.
Thank you, you have helped me very much!!!
