Do you like the new format for WS?

Well, I guess, sort of. (This is sort of how I imagine most of the WS members.)

The Amber Alert does scroll over other print and is unreadable.

The Advanced Search tab is crowded over the Quick Links tab.

Don't care for "Hot" either.

Can you please tell me what you are using? Is it an iPad or something else.

I'm using a desktop computer with a 22" monitor. Ah ha, if I reduce my zoom level to below 100% then the Advanced Search is not on top of the Quick Links and it improves the Amber Alert readability some. I usually have my zoom level set at 150% or else the print is too small for me.

I like that Amber Alert and think it needs more line space distance from the Top Stories boxes. The second line of the alert is getting cut off.

Having spent some more time reading, I'm finding that it is too bright for me as well and the underlining is annoying me even more. It sort of looked like I could change the display in settings by picking another "skin" but that doesn't seem to work (I get thanked for updating my profile but no change takes place and when I look the "skin" is still set to default). Will changing the skin be an option?

No, I don't. The print is too big. Too much space. The monochrome-like colours is really hard on my eyes. I absolutely loathe the top portion with the news and such.

I must be an endangered species who still uses a regular computer for all online things.

We are looking into the possibility of a skin that isn't so bright. However, I cannot promise anything.

We will be removing the word "Hot" and replace it with something more tasteful.

I can assure you we are getting to the other issues mentioned as fast as we can.

I mostly use my iPad and when I click the link it does absolutely nothing.... I keep pressing on the link over and over, it just stays the same as before I touched it. I checked in my PC and it is working fine there.

I'm using my Samsung s6 edge. New fone to me so I'm assuming mine can be a mixup of many issues..noticeably operator (me &#128528

Then I kept seeing a lot of the regs on WS using Tapatalk. So I took the plunge hopped on Google play store and downloaded the free app.

Umm having used the www (Web but mobile browser)
I could do most things c+p. Change font etc etc. But I was forever loosing track of the convoy as regardless if I quick post/reply on the postees' or posted on my own post. It'd get placed at the end of the thread. Kinda frustrating cuz yr back n forth back n forth. Tracing a legible storyline. Is it just me?
I know I'm a Technophobe the wrong side of 40. And a wierd sense of Netiquette. But plz. Can someone push me in the right direction to not loose myself or the thread I'm participating on.

Ooh ooh another thing. Only on Tapatalk I can only browse thru links/threads/posts associated with that thread. I can't find a 'home' option. That will allow me to come out of notifications to browse more/read more posts to add to the ones I already subscribe to.

Wow, I think I am only who has no problem to read now, actually quite opposite, everything is absolutely humongous. Not just font of letters, but every post here. Literally, every post takes whole page and I am on laptop.

I have new format open and also old one (I did not refresh that page yet), and actually do not see any difference between background colour, however what is different for me between two is underlining of absolutely everything in new format. Main page with all threads showing is impossible to read as there is sooo much happening and all I can see are the underlines everywhere and not what is actually written. I see on old format, threads were not underlined and also blue colour of the threads was quite softer for the eyes and it just all looked smoother and easier to read. (I guess strong blue colours come now due to different font).

I am in favour of any improvements, but please please do take underlining away so we are able to read.

Some of the comments may be hardware related. Myself, I often use a 15 inch MacBook Pro -- so my screen size and resolution are ok. I have to add that I'm probably a bit younger than what I think the median and modal members are here...just the same, I could imagine, if anyone is seeing the pages as I am, that the screen length seems long to some. I would imagine that some people find it difficult to track so many text characters across a screen. Of course, there are ways a member can change the text size, and so on, but I'm just throwing this out there.

On the upside:
-- I think this all looks clean, although I can imagine the white background could be loud for some. I wouldn't complain if it went a shade back to gray.
-- I don't get the hot stories/subforums stuff at the top, but I could imagine that they are useful to your page, to this isn't a complaint.
-- I think that the streamer/ticker strip at the top will be popular in time.
-- I think that many people here will have complaints about the changes, just because they were used to a different version of Websleuths, but they will warm to this format in time.

No. It is very hard to read. Too bright....migraine inducing. :gaah:

I like how it shows at the top how many users are onine at any given time. It is a reminder of what a large member (and guest) base WS really has. I also think its great to have the Amber Alerts at the top. The only problem I'm having is that it is taking a little longer for each page to load. Re: the bright white, one idea might be to dim the settings on our local devices in the meantime.

Me too! Can't get to my subscribed threads on iPad. Haven't tried on PC yet.

The quick links is not working for me either on iPhone but fine on desktop. I was a bit lost without my subs list but found a way around it for now.

If you want to know if threads in your subs have new posts click your name up on the top bar ^ (next to notifications)

This will take you to your profile and you will see 'My Activity' automatically loads. If you click on 'subscriptions' (just below 'Visitor Messages' and 'About Me') It will show you subscribed threads with new posts.

I discovered the Quick Link works on PC, but not on my iPad2 or iPad Mini. Just updated over the weekend to iOS 9.3.1 I have Weblock ad-blocker and have JavaScript turned on for both. "Block Pop-Ups" is turned on,

I tried turning both Weblok and Javascrit off, still no change, can't use Quick Link

Learning about the "Quick Links" button (I have been on the forum for years and mainly use the "new posts" tab and the "settings" tab to get to threads. This is revolutionary!!)

Dislikes
The bright white (Killing me! Maybe because it's now against the "cleaner" post boxes, I don't know, but please do something to fix it. And, yes, I have turned down the brightness on my screen.)
The underlining of everything
The "amber alert" scroll gets overlapped on my phone
The use of the word "hot"
The "Top Stories, WS News, Trials" section at the top on EVERY page (I like the idea of seeing it every time I log in, or maybe having a "top stories" page, but the extra scrolling on every page is a nuisance.)

That's it in a nutshell. Overall, I like it but fixing some of my "dislikes" would make it a better experience. I spend a lot of time on WS and really appreciate ALL that goes into making the site run smoothly. From the mods, to the tech guy, to all of the members...you all make my day...everyday.

You can't please all of the people all of the time. However you CAN please some of the people some of the time.

There are soooo many devices we use to connect to the www these days... I remember dial up at 56k sat watching the screen waiting for it to say "CONNECTED" 😂
