Do you think the Jailhouse Videos will seal Casey's fate?

There's one that might not be so good for the SA. The one where she says something like, "don't worry, I haven't told them anything". It might be (mis)construed to confirm the DT's sexual abuse claims. I can't remember whether it's in one of the ones mentioned above.

Yes, that one-- and I'm concerned about the way GA addresses her: Hi, Beautiful. Ugh, that creeped me out for the longest time, I thought it was highly unusual under the circumstances.

I also think her interviews with law enforcement are a stunning tribute to her ability to lie, lie, lie. jmo

I always thought she meant they shouldn't worry because she hadn't incriminated herself by saying anything about anything without a lawyer present.

When she says incredulously to CA (paraphrasing), 'You don't know what my part is in this?' it has always sounded like bullying to me. I think she is saying in effect, 'How dare you accuse me of having anything to do with this?' What's pleasing now is that if the DT had ever planned to put a sinister spin on that statement of hers they can't (and that had been a concern of mine), because to infer CA has known all along what has happened removes the reason for a scared KC to spend the next 3 years in jail rather than tell her mother the truth.

Unfortunately those tapes, (one in particular) could be damning for GA too. I had never forgotten ICA saying 'she's close', but hadn't remembered that GA had also said it.
They both said it on the same day/date, 3rd August but it seems GA said it first.

GA: "I know she's close" @ 5 minute mark
http://www.wftv.com/video/18206395/index.html

interesting snip from the vid:

GA: maybe we've all been too domineering? Maybe we didn't let you be the best mom.
ICA: Dad it's nobody's fault.
GA:You are a great mom. <talking over each other>
ICA: It's nobody's fault. It isn't.
GA : Well I just wish I could've opened more up to you and I wish I could've done stuff, but I can't go back.
ICA: No all we could/can(?) do is move on
GA: cause I know there's times you wanted to talk to me and I wish I would've listened.
(ICA starts crying)
GA: But all that's gonna change. I'm gonna listen more.

GA then tries to get ICA to set a meeting with Scott (FBI?) saying JB could even be there. Then ICA says it would be so much easier if she (ICA) was at home

DT will say this is where GA started throwing his daughter under a bus.
SA will say this is proof that GA was trying to get ICA to talk to authorities because he wanted Caylee found.

JMO

Is there another link? I cannot get that video to play. It starts and says netstream not found.

I don't know Quiche, my parents would call me that from time to time especially when they were trying to console me about something. I wouldn't put much stock in that as I believe ICA being the great manipulator that she is used them to get her way all her life. She still is!

There is an audiotape of her first conversation with CA from jail. The very first one I believe where she calls and criticizes her mother for her "little cameo" on TV and says "I don't want to talk to you right now, just give me Tony's number". I don't think it's been played yet for the jury, but I'm fairly sure it will be.

Yes. I think this one will be very important. This is the one where her friend is trying to get information from her and the friend starts crying and says "if anything happens to that baby, I'll die" and Casey starts talking over her and says something like "Oh my God" like she's so annoyed by this, and then the waste huge waste comment.

When a child is missing for over a month and you've been arrested for lying to LE? Idk, the way they face KC is like an approach to a dog that bites... hi beautiful, sweetheart, there there, KC... it's really unnatural, imo.

Exactly! Very good analogy. Like a dog that bites. They walked on eggs around her because her nature is so volatile. Just trying to have a conversation with her at most times, I believe was a major feat. She's a manipulator and knows all their patterns.

Have they shown the Target Video where she is buying Beer, Sexy underthings, etc. ?

That's what I got from that comment as well.It did not sound at all to me like they were in cahoots together as some have speculated. She was ticked off that her mother wasn't covering her butt.

Oooooooh! I think the DT and SA will have two very different interpretations of this conversation. If this is allowed in, I'm expecting fireworks.

July 3rd
GA: I'm sorry I've been so tough sometimes. Sorry
ICA: Dad, it's not you're fault. It isn't. We all do things out of love and sometimes....
GA: It's tough love, I know
ICA: Exactly. And it's not a bad thing to do that. You know how much I love you, and how much I've always loved you. You'll always be my buddy, besides my dad.
GA: I know that. But I just had to say what I had to say. I needed to get that out.
ICA: I know.

All they showed yesterday was shopping videos. Some of them were sort of hard to see. I hope the State makes more mention of what those videos showed (maybe in their closing arguments? IANAL). They need to, IMO, specifically point out that Casey was calmly shopping using stolen money, while hiding out from her mother, while supposedly torn apart because her little girl had just drowned.

I think the video of her having her hissy fit would be excellent to show. I hope they show it. Any video where she obviously is just annoyed that people are talking about finding Caylee, any video where she gets annoyed/mad, any video where it's obvious her parents are having to walk on eggshells around her. Anything that shows she is not the downtrodden victim in that household, IOW.

I'm listening to her speak to her parents right now on CNN (jail house visits).

She pretty much cooked her own goose IMHO. JMHO.

They destroy the DT's opening argument and force them to prove their contentions, something JB did not plan to do or wish to attempt. IMO this is why he sought the late expert testimony -- he had expected (for reasons difficult to fathom) that the tapes would either be excluded or severely edited so as to limit the damage to his client. While it is quite true that the Defense holds no burden of proof in a criminal trial in legal terms, practical realities mean that he will have to give this jury reasons to believe that his contentions are grounded in some fact and not merely self-serving statements meant to divert attention away from his client.

This is a slippery slope for him. He does not think quickly on his feet and reacts poorly to unexpected responses from witnesses or objections from opposing counsel. In my view, the only way this could work successfully is if the allegations he offered were grounded in fact. If that were true, he would have the benefit of evidence and witnesses sufficient to support his claims; and although he remains free of a legal burden of proof, he would be able to resort to making a strong effort in that direction in what is now a necessary step.

MOO

When that video was played..the moment George said Hi Beautiful Casey immediately looked at Baez and shook her head YES

The first thing that came to mind is that Casey told Baez that her dad had key words he would use to dominate and she knew what to do or say after that...

This is pure speculation on my part but I have a feeling Casey and Baez are picking at all those Hi Beautiful, I love You, I miss you...I think GA even said I need you ...

When they played the tape where ICA had the hissy fit and bared her teeth in anger, the camera panned to ICA and she started to giggle while she looked at JB.

While viewing this three years later, she was humored by her behavior with her family. They were all talking over each other- CA was passive/aggressive (trying to keep ICA calm, but trying to get answers) all the while 'sweethearting' her way through the conversation as the parents passed the phone back and forth each time one started to piss the princess off.

I just noticed that when ICA should have been mortified by it all, she found humor in it.

Odd.. :waitasec:

My fervent hope is that the videos seal her fate, to a harsh sentence of either DP or LWOP. Because the only thing better than just a conviction, would be her knowing, after years of talking herself out of trouble, that she just talked herself into a conviction.

I don't think the videos alone will "seal her fate" as the thread topic asks, because they are only part of the evidence against her - but I have had to ask myself if it is possible that JB did not review them before putting that opening statement together - I doubt that KC ever saw these tapes before they played in court and I doubt that she remembers what she said in them after 3 years - but I think these tapes will go a long way in showing the jury that there is no way the things JB said in his opening are true and I would think he would have recognized that if he was familiar with what was on them - so did he forget or did he never view them - or did he really think they wouldn't matter? I know he "hoped" they wouldn't get in but he had to know they might - didn't he?

I think in some ways they will help seal her fate. I think the forensics experts are going to be confusing and some jurors will be on the fence. The air samples will leave some room for doubt, as will the death hair banding. People will most likely believe there WAS a dead baby in the trunk, but may wonder if George or someone could possibly have been involved. BUT those tapes will bring them back to the cold reality of Casey's Dark Heart.
For those who are unsure of the forensics, I think the tapes will help convince them it was Casey after all. There are no fingerprints, no DNA, but there was Casey saying
' ALL they care about is getting Caylee back.....Oh, um...me too, but whatever."
