As Gitana said, transfer those stats to ebola, then look at the hysteria and panic that ensued. It was ridiculous.

Of course the flu shot works. It's science.

I find it so interesting and tragic that diseases like whooping cough and measles are becoming more prevalent because of how uneducated people are with regards to vaccinations and disease. How can we, as a society, turn this stupid trend around? And I'm not just speaking about the US, it is happening here in Australia too.

Not sure about your comment ... Of course the flu shot works. It's science ... did you read the links where it says the flu immunization was a failure this year ?

Yet big pharma made billions and billions selling it ..... has the appearance of financial motives disguised as science

The shot still guards against the strains in it - the failure comes from not predicting the most widespread strains and including them in the vaccine.

Exactly. The vax only covers 3 strands (but they are about to release a 4 strand vax). Unfortunately the strain of flu that hit the US was not covered by the vax. Once again - science. It works.

.

Agreed , trouble is nobody knows in advance what strain the next flu will be , that is the problem

I fear the vaccines that they screw up on that kills people/bad side effects before they say OOPS sorry we made a mistake and recall those vaccines. Happens far, far too often. Like theyre trying to kill us or something.

They've proven that vaccines don't cause autism. Dr. Andrew Wakefield falsified his results.

Recently that whole topic is being re-examined

Turns out that an exceedingly high number of young (age is important) Negro (race plays a part) boys & babies had a marked decline in mental and physical function as soon as they were vaccinated . This was directly from 300 parents who observed the drastic changes immediately after the injections were administered.

The CDC got around those conclusions by eliminating that group of people from their study results

ps: I am not a defender of Dr. Andrew Wakefield , nor am I anti-vaccine .... but I do know for a fact that historically the pharmaceutical industry and the CDC (for example) never reveal all the things that have gone wrong in the medical field.

They police themselves , they fund each other , and are accountable only to themselves.

Dr. Andrew Wakefield also says it is difficult to pinpoint the cause because there are various preservatives and ingredients used in vaccinations that could be the cause , while the remainder of the ingredients are perfectly safe.

best wishes

I don't have my resources on my tablet, but that claim is easily debunked.

This should not even be a debate in this day and age. There are massive, overwhelming amounts of evidence to show vaccines are safe and effective. The flu vaccine is less effective some years than others, but still worth getting. The real flu is not a bad cold. It can be deadly. Many people just get a nasty cold and call it the flu when it isn't.

The farther we get from having to see loved ones die or be blinded or crippled in epidemics, the more people have the privilege to turn their backs on science and evidence.

Many more thousands die of the flu every year than people from the flu shot.

They have done hundreds of studies. It is proven that vaccines don't cause autism. They just released the largest cohort study of the kind again disproving this. Ha nothing to do with race. It doesn't cause autism. Period

Then please tell me what causes Autism
You cannot answer that , nobody can
Yet you claim to know what does not cause Autism

Best wishes in your research

All signs point to genetics/inherited traits, and yes, it is totally possible to know what does NOT cause something even if you don't know what DOES cause it. That's a terribly weak argument. There are few things as heavily studied as vaccines, and out of hundreds of studies of hundreds of thousands of people, you've got one quack who was proven to have skewed his results who says they do, and all the others say they don't. (And now that other study which has also been debunked.)

The saddest thing is, while people in denial are so busy trying to disprove what is proven true, we could all be supporting the cause of what actually DOES contribute to ASDs, and figuring out how to better treat them.

I know it's easier to believe it's something you can control - that means it can be avoided or cured. It's hard on parents to feel helpless. But the answer isn't to try to blame something unrelated that is responsible for saving millions of lives.

Look up "infant with pertussis" on YouTube and then come back and tell me how bad vaccines are.

Also, pharmaceutical companies generally lose money on vaccines. They would make a lot more off the drugs used to treat preventable illness, but they make vaccines affordable or free to everyone. I'm not saying they're perfect, but I saw the money argument used upthread and wanted to address that fallacy.

"Natural" medicine is a multibillion dollar industry selling water and snake oil; buy this $99 bottle of herbs instead of getting a free shot! Yet I don't hear much vitriol directed at them . . .

I wonder how many people get the flu shot and are sick with other sickness during that time. Myself, kids and husbands have never had the flu shot. These pass two years have been the best healthiest years for us. My kids have not brought home any crappy colds that pass on to us. The stomach bug is not the same as the flu which tons of people get confused with. I believe I had the flu about 6 years ago, it sucked. And I had it a few other times too in my life. But never confirmed There is no way to get out of bed, if you have time to post on FB you can not possible have the flu.

My whole family is constantly posting over a sickness, it is weekly and they all get the flu shot. Just makes me wonder.

I was really nervous about this pass winter, wondering if we all were going to get sick. My friend had a confirmed case, and she did not get the flu shot. A few years ago her son had a confirmed case and again that was the year he missed the shot. So do I think it works, yes, but is it needed in healthy people? Should we wait until we need it.? What about the drugs they give when it is confirmed,..

That is the only shot my kids do not receive.

I am 33 years old. I had the flu for the 1st time in my life this year. It was awful. I also got my very 1st flu shot this year. The Dr said that the shot "didn't work on the strand going around" but I have to wonder of all the years of my life I never got the flu until now? Dumb luck? I realize that the shot does not cause or give someone the flu but the timing is odd. P.S. I had no time to post on facebook, I could barely find the energy to get off the couch. Tamiflu helped but I was down for the count for 5 solid days.

I liked this for reminding people how awful the flu really is. Not for not vaccinating.

Whether or not you've had the flu vax has zero bearing on whether or not you get other illnesses. Or even other strains of the flu. It's luck of the draw. I don't want to go full science mode from mobile, but the immune responses are not related and wouldn't be suppressed by the vaccine.

Everyone should get the flu vaccine. Especially kids and seniors (the most likely to die from influenza complications). 50% better immunity is still better than 0%.

Also, remember - we all have the potential to come in contact with and infect vulnerable individuals - babies, transplant patients, cancer patients, and so on. I personally can't ethically justify not vaccinating, as I would never want to be the one responsible for passing along a vaccine-preventable illness that ends up killing someone.

Um, yeah they can. They are finding genetic defects in utero, like the degrading egg quality of older mothers. A good friend of mine whose daughter is autistic, had her at age 44. It's pure coincidence that it manifests at the age when language should be developing normally, which is around the age when they get the DTap shot.

It's needed in healthy people because you never know where/when you are going to get exposed to someone carrying the germs and spreading them. It could be a co-worker, it could be at an amusement park, it could be in a nursing home, it could be in a store...
P.S. By the time you need it, it won't be effective. Your immune system takes a couple of weeks to kick in. You need to get it in advance. Nov-Jan is the best time of year to get it. Jan-April is when the flu is most prevalent.

Most likely you did not get the shot in time before you were exposed, and/or the shot didn't cover the strain of flu you had. Don't let that stop you from getting it next year. You have been lucky in the past.

Interesting turn of events

The 2014 - 2015 flu vaccine was a failure , as reported by mainstream media , and backed by hospital visit statistics

I had saved many of those links and now the internet has been scrubbed clean.

And they have already voted to do it all again in 2015 - 2016

.........................................

It is a 50 billion dollar industry that needs to be preserved I guess
