Dog the Bounty Hunter #2

Just curious, but do you think people who use (or misuse) the "N" word are necessarily racist? I'm only asking because it seems lately that alot of people who blurt it out and get caught say "Well, I don't consider myself racist." Is it possible to use the word and not be one?

Blacks use the word in an attempt to take ownership of it. Dumb move IMO.
It will never be an acceptable word for white people to use.

So he used a bad word in private. Big deal. Move on.

ITA!!! And if it had been a black celeb spouting "whitey" and "cracker", no one would care. :hand:

Um, can I point out: a majority of Dog's take-downs are criminals that their bail company put back on the the street in the first place?

I could care less if he has a show or not... I've seen it a couple of times and, yeah, it is entertaining to a point, but to me he is far from being a hero. He's doing business... his company bails out a criminal... the criminal acts untoward, which puts a bearing on the bond and Dog takes them down.

I don't buy this whole "it was taken out of context"... the overall convo still reads like a racsist ticked off that his son has a black girlfriend. He even says he would tell Lee "f'you" if Lee started dating a "n". And his apology... it isn't flying...

For the record, before anyone thinks I have gone nuts over this: I come from 2 angles... my daughter is in a bi-racial relationship... my parents do not believe in mixing races... and before I had had enough of their craziness on other issues as well and broke off relations, I was constantly fussed at for letting my daughter date a black person. Even my parenting skills were picked over by them... and I cringed every time my mom would ask me how I could let my daughter date a "n" (their word for a black person). That convo of Dog's sounded like something I have heard from my own racist parents... it just made my heart ache for his son... and left a burning sensation in my stomach because I've been on the receiving end of a being berated over mixing with other races.

2nd is that I have a friend that idolizes Dog... she about plum near drives me nuts over this man. I took her to Hawaii last year and she never shut up about him... since I have time share with Hilton, we stayed at the resort where Dog and Beth got married, and my friend just was over the moon. All of the hero worship was... nuts. I love my friend, but the hero worship is crazy. To me, a hero does what they do, not for the money and fame, but for the goodness of society, most of the time without really even knowing that they are doing it.

I can't believe I'm getting into this discussion but you brought up a good question and I'd like to offer my two cents. I think that it is possible for a white person to use that word and not be racist. I live in the south so of course I hear that word a lot. But when I hear MOST white people say it, IMO they don't mean it in the context of trying to keep a black person down. In fact, it's the complete opposite. It's usually said about a black person that refuses to work, that sits around the house and collects a check and 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 about how white people try to keep them down, doesn't keep their property up, constant in and out, blaring their music. This doesn't apply to all black people. There are lazy people in any race. I know or know of several white people that are shining examples of the description above and I get just as irritated and put-off by their behavior.

Having said that, I in NO WAY condone the "n" word being used in any context, by anyone. As best as I can, I understand how and why that is such an ugly word and black people being majorly offended by it. But if a white person does say it, it doesn't mean he/she is a member of the KKK, flies the confederate flag, etc. I think it's a term to describe general laziness/sorriness.

I hope I didn't offend anyone, I'm just giving my personal perspective and again, I DO NOT condone the use of the "n" word by anyone.

I'm sure everyone will disagree, but if people are offended by the word isn't that what is giving it power? People (in most cases) say it in an effort to hurt others, in other cases, just out of plain ignorance.

I wish I had bookmarked it, but I didn't. But yesterday the drudgereport had the fuller context of the conversation.

What I got out of the conversation was that Dog said he wasn't going to use that word so that she could record it. He even said if (couldn't make out the other person's name) used that word, they'd be all over him for saying it.
fran

First, anyone who wants to actually HEAR the conversation, go to the website of the National Enquirer and you can hear it for yourself. Fran is 100% - Dog actually says he will NOT use the "N" word (yes, he says the word but you get my point). And it looks like his concerns were valid since either Tucker (his son) or his horror of a girlfriend DID tape the conversation and SOLD it to NE. So rather than trying to take down Dog, who made a comment IN HIS HOME, IN PRIVATE TO HIS SON, why don't we blame the slime who is airing his dirty laundry? Last time I checked, I could say anything I want in my own home. And certainly if my child was dating a girl who threatened to beat up my wide and daughter I might have some choice words to say about her myself.

Frankly, I don't see the big deal. If you don't like him, don't watch the show. I think I should have the choice to watch who I want regardless of the language they use. Otherwise every single rapper out there who tells listeners to kill cops should be taken off the market.

I thought he said that they do use the word from time to time. I guess I'm hearing things differently. I suppose that all people that use the word are not all racists, but I choose to believe that they are sad and misinformed. Just like a man that uses the "C" word to refer to a woman. I don't necessarily believe that he hates women. I wonder how people would feel if that is the word he chose to use, instead of the N word. I'm sure a lot of woman would be calling for his show to be off the air.

Yes, but all words have some sort of power and until we find a different way to communicate with each other, we will respond to their powers.

I believe young African Americans have tried to take back the N word as their own (something I have no problem with), but it will be a long time (if ever) before that word becomes neutral in America. There's just too much attached to it.

Bounty hunters, including Dog, do not always go after people who they bailed out. I don't think that Dog bailed out Andrew Luster...but he darn sure went after and caught him to bring him back to face TONS of jailtime for his crimes.

While he does relish being in the spotlight, I don't think Dog goes after the creeps because of it. He was doing this long before and will continue long after his show goes off the air.

(By the way, I am not a huge "fan" of his show or anything...I only have respect for what he does and has done to catch criminals.)

As far as contacting Al Sharpton goes, am I the only person who kind of likes Sharpton?

Even Al's mother probably doesn't like him.

I haven't read thru all the threads but does anyone know which son it was? Leland?

Well Shopper I don't care who I offend, I happen to agree with your statement above. All races have their "N"'s. And I was not raised to feel this way, I have this opinion because of my experiences. I personally do not like the N word. I just feel like if the tables were turned and someone had said White Trash this would not be news.

Of course it wouldn't - but it would if the histories of white people and black people in America were reversed.

Well, Dog was in prison and is a/ex Bandido. Not exactly lifestyles to learn hearts and flowers hand holding and singing in a circle of friends. If his show is cancelled due to eavesdropping, then that is really wrong. Reading the context of the conversation, Dog didn't do anything wrong, and I imagine that girl better be watching her back after doing this to the many Chapmans and all their bail bond associates. She sounds more like just plain trashy whatever race she happens to be.

I just read a link on my local online newspaper saying that the son he was angry with and talking to was Tucker. The article also quoted the attorney as saying that Tucker is the one who sold the tape to the Enquirer.
