Found Deceased Dominican Republic - Orlando Moore & Portia Ravenelle, from NY on vacation, April 2019

“Tourism is the single biggest revenue earner, with receipts increasing more than tenfold from US$173 million in 1980 to more than US$2 billion by 2000. According to the Central Bank, the Dominican Republic received US$4.3 billion in revenues from the tourism sector in 2011.”

Just throwing this scenario up in the air.

Maybe Orlando and Portia were stopped and pulled over (looking at a map?) and got hit by another car and she wasn't belted in. She gets thrown from the car and ends up on the hwy and the car gets pushed over the cliff. The damage on the rental should shed much light on what could have happened, also whether or not the car was in gear or if the hazard lights were on will be a telling tale if they were driving when the accident occurred. They haven't shown any photos of the accident scene, which is very odd to me. Did they find debris on the road?

As a small child I was in a car accident. I was three years old and sitting in my moms lap in the front seat (I know...cringeworthy, but this was before carseats were a law in Ontario, Canada.) We got t-boned while going through an amber light at an intersection and both my mom and I were thrown from the vehicle when the door flew open on impact. We were both very lucky to have survived (I was found under the vehicle with tire tracks on my bright-yellow coat and nearly had my left arm amputated across the bicep because it had been crushed - my mom got pretty banged up but was also extremely lucky she survived.)

Ive been looking to see if I could find a Live Cam of the "Marbella tollbooth" that was mentioned as last place they were spotted.
This is the closest thing I found which has Cameras but I dont think its the tollbooth area but more of the Marbella town itself.

"The spouses were last seen at the Marbella tollbooth, on March 27, according to security cameras."

ETA----I think the Marbella I had found was not even in Dominican Republic but in Spain. LOL
So removing link and will keep looking.

I cant find any live webcams so the best I could find is just a google map of Samana the town reported that they were staying in.

If you use satelite view and expand it outwards, you can see there is an airport to the West of Samana called
"Arroyo Barril International Airport".
The one and only main road heading west ends up near that airport but I am not sure if that is the airport they reportedly were supposed to fly out of.

Hope this map link works.

This is the video of them trying to bring up the car. You can see the cable snap in the video.

SEE IT: Dominican divers find car of doomed vacationing New York couple in waters off steep cliff

Wow. Holy crap. Yes you can hear and see it snap. Look at those rough waters.

No wonder the cable snapped.

At least we can outrule any foul play with trying to get the car out. They are legitimately trying to get it out. It will be a small miracle if they can get it out of there. Wow.

I think it is Santo Domingo airport which is called Las Americas International Airport. I could be wrong and hope someone corrects me if I am. Here is a map from Samana to the airport:

btw- Samana, D.R. looks like a beautiful vacation spot so I can understand them picking that place as a vacation destination.

The waters are clear and beautiful and the area is beautiful. Its really sad how their trip ended up.

You and your mother were very fortunate. I grew up in the days of no seat belts as well. Several kids stuffed in a station wagon or riding in the back of a pickup truck? No problem in those days.

The only way I can so far picture this is IF there was an impact by another vehicle. I agree totally.

Please let me know if this is NOT okay to link and I will delete!

It's a long u-tube video (almost 30 minutes) and might be a bit frustrating to listen to (I will leave it at that!)
Its called:
Portia Ravenelle, Orlando Moore: facts and disinformation

They call it the "blender" I think they said. That video is something. The car, if I am seeing it correctly, does not look like there is much left to it.

It also looks like an impossible area to escape from but then who knows if that is where it went in but I would think they would look for the easiest access to pull the car in.

Yeah, there is no way she escaped that car at that location and scaled that cliff.

Thanks. That makes more sense as to the airport they most likely were trying to get to.

The other small one to the west of Samana seemed too small.

If you want to zoom in and put it on satellite view, it gets pretty detailed too with the ocean, trees, details, etc.

I was wondering not long ago which airport as well. Details have come so slowly or so it seems.

This is a terrible, awful end. My sympathy and condolences to their friends and family. I have questions about the timeline also, as well as how in the world did they end up wrecking?

If they were at Marbella toll booth, it looks like they maybe tried to take a shortcut down Rt 7 to the main road next to the beach (Autopisto Las Americas-- or Rt 3). I wonder if they accidentally went straight there, and into the water.... but in that case they would have had to travel across about 4-6 lanes of traffic.

Initially I thought they were at the toll both closest to the airport, but they still had a ways to go.

Here’s video of the car after they brought it up the cliff.

ETA: At the end of this video, you can get a short glimpse of the possible path that the car may’ve taken. It doesn’t look like it’s too far off the roadway with a slight downward grade toward the sea.

Yeah, there is no way she escaped that car at that location and scaled that cliff.

I agree that she most likely did not climb that cliff. Even a healthy person in those rough waters would have difficulty getting out of there. Someone going off that cliff would be most likely badly injured and not be able to swim much, let alone crawl back up that cliff face.

About the only way I can see her ending up on the side of the road in an accident situation would be if she was ejected from the car before the driver plunges off that cliff.
And she should have been found near the entry point where the car careened over the top of cliff.

I suppose it is possible the driver rolled the vehicle or hit a tree or something before going off the cliff and maybe she was ejected before he went over the edge.
Or another possibility like others have mentioned is maybe someone else hit their vehicle hard enough which could have caused her to be ejected from the vehicle before the driver and vehicle kept going on over the cliff.

The problem investigators will have is from the looks at what is left of the car from that video clip where they are trying to pull it out, the car looks terribly mangled and totaled.

Im afraid investigators will not be able to determine much from the damage of the car because the car smashing rocks on the way down added a lot of the damage.

Investigators will have a hard time telling which damage was caused by the initial crash and which was caused by the car smashing into the rocks on the way down the cliff.

Uggggg. This case is terribly sad.
Lets hope there is some clues they can get from the road surface. There should be marks on the road as to where exactly he went over the side. Maybe there will be skid marks or tree or bushes damage to see where and how he went over the side.

And where she was found had better be close to where the car went over the edge. Otherwise it would not make much sense.

I am blown away by the condition of the car. No words.

If we could have what we wish for, I would like to see the area of the roads and where they went off--is it where the car was pulled out or is it elsewhere? Because if it is where they just retrieved the car from, I do not see it as the spot they went over...

I hope we are sending some top experts to take a look at this car. Not that it is in any kind of shape but that is not surprising.
