I am blown away by the condition of the car. No words.

Its incredible isnt it.

It looks like a bomb exploded it. I expected it to be in bad shape but not that bad. My goodness.

Wow, could the salt water have affected it that much? It doesn't even look like a car!

I do not suppose anyone knows where km #19 is on the map? I have tried various things to see it and locate it but I also am not a mapper by nature. in fact, i can come up with little to nothing on the kilometer markers.

This hotel says they're at km 22 https://www.choicehotels.com/dominican-republic/santo-domingo/quality-inn-hotels/do002. They're not far from the airport. I'm wondering if they tried to take that sharp-looking turn to the left on the map and that caused the accident. If they were seen at Maribella toll plaza, which seems to be a little further north of that hotel, before that curve, at 1:41 a.m, I'd think they might be rushing to get to the airport, if what was posted earlier about them trying to get on a 2:00 flight was correct. I'm not so sure they would've made the flight, if that info is correct.

Here’s video of the car after they brought it up the cliff.
Inform.Tele Antillas on Twitter

ETA: At the end of this video, you can get a short glimpse of the possible path that the car may’ve taken. It doesn’t look like it’s too far off the roadway with a slight downward grade toward the sea.
Not the best method of evidence preservation, I must say.

Here’s a video from two days ago made by a local newspaper showing the area of km #19.

Thank you both so much.

It gives a far more specific area to look at.

I do not know if they would have made their flight either but I have seen flights held for a tourist so perhaps she was calling (possibly). I wonder if any phone records have been accessed.

Wouldn't there be scuffs in the dirt or someway to tell a car went over/rolled over the cliff?

One would think so but there was another mortal accident in the same area around April 1st according to this YouTube video I found. Warning - it may be disturbing to some.

Well, if they just drove over without trying to stop or turn, there might not be any sign of an accident, depending if there was a guardrail, vegetation, etc. that might show damage. If they tried to avoid going over, hopefully some evidence will be there. I'm still trying to figure out how Portia could get ejected before the car went over. Well, and still trying to make sense of all the released info so far.

Well, I do not see her getting out of the ocean up any of those rocky drop downs that we have seen. That much I cannot see.

He washed up, have any of all of the missing car parts, luggage, etc., I wonder?

I haven’t been able to find anything other than his body was recovered 20-30 kilometers from the scene of the accident near the Port of Sans Souci in the Santo Domingo Este municipality.

I suspect these two factors could also be possible-
a) Another car hit them and left the scene
Or
b) Portia could have made it somehow to the roadside and then been hit by a vehicle after the initial accident causing her fatal injuries.

Terribly sad, the poor couple and to think we saw their last hours in this world via the photos we have seen. They were away from the stresses of everyday life, to embrace living and share memories together only to have their lives stripped away by a tragedy on that very break.

Whatever caused this tragedy, one thing we can be sure of is ... they never could have imagined they were at risk of losing their lives.

May they RIP together for infinity and beyond.

I think it is what makes things difficult to picture too, it is so much easier when a person knows the area or is familiar with it than imaging it from another country.

I believe the fishermen also heard the crash in the Santo Domingo Este municipality so it must extend for some kilometers.

Is the picture in the article link the front end of the car I am assuming? Can anyone answer that? It is the way it looks to me.

I think those who say it’s not possible she got ejected underestimate the force of a car accident.

Example: Rollover accident

Can even happen despite wearing a seatbelt.

Crash that killed Battle Creek man violent enough to eject him despite wearing a seatbelt

I can only speak for myself but I believe some others may feel the same, when I say I cannot see someone ejected, I mean with no impact with something, rollover, etc. In the case you cited, a tree was hit/there was an impact. In this case, we are told of an accident but no other car, tree, etc. We are led to believe she was in the water and got out of the water, to the road, not ejected on hitting a tree on the way down.

I agree totally if there was an impact, someone could be ejected.

Again, just speaking for myself.

If you watch video 2 in spoiler, the woman was ejected after a rollover, she didn’t hit anything (police were bumping her a little, but her speed and the rollover caused her being ejected after she lost control of the car). I can find many other rollover ejections w/o impact. It‘s physics, centrifugal force.

As regards reports she made it out of the water, I am pretty sure this is lost in translation. Being a German and reading English articles translated from German sources, I can tell you these are often horrible. :D
