Dominican Republic - Tammy Lawrence-Daley, 51, from Delaware, beaten at resort, Punta Cana, May 2019

Just came across another unusual death in DR.
Miranda Schaup-Werner was found dead at the Grand Bahia Principe hotel on May 25. She’s from Allentown, PA and was reported to have died of respiratory failure. She was a healthy 41 year old woman. Family is questioning her death. Pennsylvania woman found dead days before couple at same Dominican Republic resort

More info here: Pennsylvania woman died at same Dominican hotel five days before Maryland couple in similar circumstances

Days later, Edward Holmes and his fiance Cynthia Day were found dead in their hotel room.
“In all three cases, Dominican authorities said that an autopsy gave the same apparent cause of death – respiratory failure and pulmonary edema, which is caused by excess fluid in the lungs. The Regional Institute of Forensic Sciences said that, in the case of Holmes and Day, further tests are required.”
This is very strange. Three otherwise healthy people drop dead in the same resort within days, all three of pulmonary edema?

Woman Died in Same Dominican Resort Days Before Md. Couple
"An American tourist died of respiratory failure in her Dominican Republic hotel room just days before a Maryland couple was found dead of the same cause at the same resort, according to the woman's family.

Miranda Schaup-Werner, 41, a psychotherapist from Allentown, Pennsylvania, died May 25 from respiratory failure and pulmonary edema, according to a spokesperson for the family.

Schaup-Werner and her husband were staying at the Luxury Bahia Principe Bouganville, an adults only all-inclusive in La Romana, a city on the southern end of the island. Five days later, Nathaniel Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Day, 50, an engaged couple from Maryland, were found dead in their hotel room at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana, the resort next door on the same property."
Schaup-Werner's brother-in-law, Jay McDonald, said in a written statement she had “a drink from the in-room minibar. Her husband, Dr. Daniel Werner, was with her when she abruptly experienced acute physical distress and collapsed.”

"She reportedly had been in good health and the couple was visiting the island to celebrate their ninth wedding anniversary, McDonald told NBC News."

"The relatives of all three U.S. citizens are raising questions about the deaths. McDonald told NBC he's not convinced a "healthy 41-year-old suddenly dies like this," noting that officials in the Dominican Republic did not do a toxicology report, nor did they test Schaup-Werner's glass and drink as part of the cause of death investigation."

People on vacation can be way more vulnerable regardless of where they are on vacation. Vacationeers let their guard down in hotels-- often drinking to excess, lulled into a false sense of security because it seems like there are employees and security everywhere, and, depending on the country/area, not having a sense of the local culture. It can happen when traveling in the US as well as abroad.

So true. I know that when I travel there are numerous times I observe people who are utterly oblivious to potential dangers around them. I trust no one. There surely has to be a happy balance.

Dominican resort claims US tourist went public with assault allegation after it refused her demand for $2.2 million

This article is interesting, it almost implies that the tourist that was assaulted, was trying to extort money from the resort.
He** of a way to get money, imo.

Another case from June 2018:

(snipped from article)

"Relatives of Yvette Monique Sport, 51, told Fox29 Philadelphia she was visiting the popular tourist spot last June, and stayed at the Bahia Principe Resort in Punta Cana. They say that Sport had a drink from the mini bar inside her room, later went to bed, and never woke up.

The report of Sport’s death comes on the heels of the known deaths of three U.S. tourists in five days that occurred in their rooms at hotels owned by the Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts group.

Her death certificate listed “heart attack” as the cause."

Woah, missed that one, something weird going on, interesting video with victim's sister, "something dirty"
imo. speculation.

"She was 51 years of age, relatively healthy, no reason for her to go on vacation and die so suddenly," her sister, Felecia Nieves, told FOX 29.

The details of her actions preceding her death are identical to that of Miranda Schaup-Werner of Allentown, Penn., who collapsed and died on May 25 after having a drink from the room mini bar. Five days later, on May 30, another couple, Edward Holmes and Cynthia Day were found dead in their room."

Dominican Republic: Travel Advisory / Level 2

(snipped from site)

"Exercise increased caution in the Dominican Republic due to crime.

Violent crime, including armed robbery, homicide and sexual assault is a concern throughout the Dominican Republic. The development of a professional tourist police corps, institution of a 911 system in many parts of the country, and a concentration of resources in resort areas means... "

My first thought is someone from the bar is poisoning drinks and then robbing them , is there anything missing that we know of ? rings jewelry money they weren't known to have with them?

I know her sister said she was healthy, but what does her Dr say? It could be possible she had medical problems she hid from family

I'm by NO means throwing shade on this woman's story but why did the husband and friends only go to the front desk (albeit 3 times) instead of
calling authorities?! (And I don't mean hotel security). I feel like they should have been turning the place upside down when she didn't come back to the room in a reasonable time.
I wonder if it's possible they asked the front desk to call the authorities and they didn't cooperate.

This sounds like a CYA move by the Hotel , IMO

Twitter in the above article says that the victim in this story has been an executive in the insurance industry.

Could she have been "gaming" the system? But what an extent she went to if that was the goal. Could she have been beaten up by someone she knew? Was she drunk and left the property? Did she have a rendezvous w/ Did she think that $2.2 million would take care of the pain and suffering she went through? Did she think or know that finding a resolution in the D.R criminal system was not going to work in her favor? I mean, what was she thinking? What is this hotel thinking?
They must feel confident it didn't go down the way she said it did.
