Jaclyn bevis’ Twitter Posts are way off. The state never said they wouldn’t make a plea deal with Sievers. The judge simply said, “I’m assuming you’re not going to make a deal for Sievers, but was there a deal discussed for Rodgers?”

The prosecution hasn’t discussed a plea deal for either Rodgers or Sievers, but neither are off the table.

The judge asked if there were any talks of a plea deal. The defense says there has been no plea deal offered. "I don't know if there is anything to talk about," Assistant State Attorney Hamid Hunter said.

3-4 weeks for jury selection?

I know it's important to both sides, but that seems a bit excessive.

It’s not excessive. The case is national headline. In Fort Myers, it’s all anyone talks about in MSM. They will spend the next four weeks trying to find a jury that’s not compromised, but it will be very surprising if they can find enough jury members that are qualified to give a fair trial. If they cannot find 16 jurors, typically 12 with 4 alternates, then they will move the trial to another county, taking the prosecution, the defense, and the judge with them, in hopes of finding a better jury selection elsewhere.

It seems Judge Bruce Kyle is going to deny defense objections to the Jimmy Rodgers trial beginning today. Unless defense and prosecutors agree they would like time this morning to discuss a plea deal, the trial should start with jury selection today.
