@beach... Do you think the jury selection will be tougher for Mark's trial? I can see issues all around in his trial.

Yes, for a few reasons. He is local to the area so more likely that people will be familiar with him and/or Teresa personally which will likely result in strikes; also the trial date is going to make it tough to strike a jury for a trial expected to last several weeks. Could interfere with holiday travel plans, etc.

What dates are we looking at for Mark’s trial please? TIA

AFAIK - definitions aren't provided.
Today, after a defense objection, here is what the judge said:
"At the conclusion of the closing statements, I am going to read you instructions which you will be allowed to take with you back to the jury room when you begin your deliberations. I will give you an instruction on reasonable doubt and that is the instruction on the law that you are to follow."

The 2nd week of November was suppose to start with the jury selection but it might be earlier if this trial wraps up quickly. Thanksgiving travel will impact the prospective jurors since this will be a longer trial due to the elements of the case.

Sorry for butting in but I think the news coverage on the local major networks will be an issue too. More so than CWW's jurors since it's been front and center again for the past week and a half.

Do you think they will move MS's jury selection up to an earlier date if this trial wraps up quickly?

He set a tentative date of Nov. 12th.

So good to see you again! And better yet, going through verdict watch together again. <3

I'm thinking part of the defenses closing with bringing mark up so so much was to taint the jury pool even more. I do hope they move it up...asap. I know it sounds convoluted but if I could choose just one too get the guilty verdict, is choose mark over jr. It even sounds horrible to me to type.

Remember when they said the jury selection could take up to a month for JRR's trial? IMO for a DP trial this has moved along at great speeds. Is this normal?

I honestly don't know. My first thought was no way since he'd already set Nov. 12th and Mummert would have a fit if he moved it up. However, I know Judge Kyle ordered Mark held in a holding cell at the courthouse during the beginning of Jimmy's trial, thinking there still may be a chance of plea deal early on. He made it very clear that should that happen, Mummert needed to be immediately ready to go. So, I really don't know where Judge Kyle's head is at with this.

This one moved quite fast. Each trial takes on a dynamic of it's own. The pace, I mean. There is no way to predict it until it's underway. Hard to define " normal" because of so many variables. (amount of evidence, # of witnesses, experts, etc...even depends on the attorneys and judges - their styles. )

I think that if I was on the jury I wouldn't be able to go home tonight and not research this case. Especially if it was a DP case. I wonder how many of the jurors will stick to the rules, and if not, be honest about it. My husband, not familiar with this case, not living in FL at that time, and us not dating at that time, likes to play devil's advocate with me. He has some good points, and I can see where someone coming from the outside might think there is reasonable doubt. But I, having followed for 4 years, feel this SHOULD be a slam dunk. Really, with him going but, but, but all the time I honestly think this could go either way. unless the jury goes home and pulls a Bobbywoo and researches. And yes, I understand this is dishonest and cheating.
I hear ya. That's how I felt watching the McStay Family trial. The jury kept being yanked in and out of the courtroom---in the middle of testimony someone would yell OBJECTION---and after lengthy sidebars, the jury would be sent away. And upon return, that subject would be over and done with.

I felt like they would be left with so many questions, totally unanswered, and if I were a juror, I'd be tempted to look some of them up for myself. o_O

I agree it moved along at a nice pace compared to some, and especially for a DP trial. I didn't feel constant irritation. Defense got on my nerves today though. I'm glad I got a chance to watch it LIVE. There were some gory details and heartbreaking facts though. Just want to see Justice for Teresa. Can't wait to watch Mark's trail and watch him squirm like a worm.

I'm not expecting DP verdicts, but LWOP at the very least.

You mean maybe thinks a verdict may be reached tomorrow?

Yes I’m thinking they might have a verdict tomorrow.

It seems to be moving at a good pace, but everytime the judge gave the jury an option to go home, they took it quickly. It may take a few days. It’s those lesser charges on the instructions that they may not agree on what to apply.

I think the Sievers trial will be much harder to find a jury, only because of all the media attention that this trial is getting here locally now that something’s actually happening. I hear about it in the grocery store.

SCALEX... There will be many books written about this case and all will have "details" the public never knew. JRR's version of events
might be penned by a close relative if he is convicted. Nowadays everyone gets a book deal: attorneys, jurors, mistresses, girlfriends, siblings etc. !! Everyone but the victim's family.... there is no fleeting fame, just endless grief. Grief is a burden the survivors carry, sometimes so heavy it almost paralyzes them. After the public interest fades, they still have to care for the children, handle complicated estate issues and live with the knowledge their loved one died under horrific circumstances. So much sadness.
(on one case I read 11 different books!)

I remember in the beginning, then Lee Co Sheriff said this case was the stuff books are written about & movies are made. Right away a few people jumped on him for that. I figured he might be right due to what LE might be discovering that the public wasn’t privy too at that point.

@Oregonmama posted "We are on verdict watch"
We are?? Ugh, I still wanted to hear a lot more. (Or maybe I wanted the jury to hear a lot more.) It seems odd that I am aware of so much more evidence/history than the jurors were shown. And yet, they are the ones who will have his future status in their hands! I wanted to scream this is "no boy scout" who was duped into driving for 3 days straight, just to dip his toes into the gulf shores of Florida!
It seems the definition of "hitman" got all confused with MS's relationships..."hitman" implies impartial 3rd party, ie not known to the victim, who kills for compensation. I think MS thought he was hiring a hitman, but being a controlling s.o.b., he had to know the identity of the hitman who was assisting
CWW. Even sicker, I think he took a smug satisfaction in knowing his name was "The Hammer" and that is why he knew his wife was going to be bludgeoned to death and why he also knew (or had a pretty good idea) how many times she was hit. CWW gave him all the details....because MS wanted them.
