"Dr." William Kendrick Dean, 63
Murdered 13 August 1918

William Dean was violently murdered at his home the evening of 13 August 1918. He was bludgeoned with a three prong hand tool, his hands and feet were bound, and a feed sack containing a 27 pound rock was tied around his head before he was dropped headfirst into a well containing 12 feet of water.

His death occurred during World War One while American forces were turning the tide in offensives which ultimate led the allies to victory three months later.

Facts and evidence in the case were very much overshadowed by opinions, theories, and anti German sentiment. The case was never solved.
