Dylan Redwine Case Discussion Thread/Dylan's Remains Found

I am so terribly sad to hear that Dylan was found deceased. Although I speculated that he was no longer with us - I just didn't think he was the kind of kid to run away for this long - I still held on to a small sliver of hope.

As I leave right now to go to my son's baseball game, my heart is broken. Baseball - boys - that is what brought me to Dylan's thread so many times. He reminds me so much of my boys. My heart is broken, but I know that Dylan is in a better place. I too find it bittersweet that he was found. Glad that the family "knows" where he is, glad that they will be able to have a memorial for him, but soooo terribly sad that he is truly gone. My heart and my deapest sympathies go out to Elaine.

:rose: R.I.P. Dylan :rose:

As much as I felt Dylan was not alive for many months now, it is still very shocking to know for sure. Also very shocking that he was found at all. I really had doubts. But how on earth LE happened to search there is mystifying to me.

My thoughts, exactly...

Where I live, they call the drainage areas the places where either erosion has left a ditch or a natural area where the rain will runoff down the side of a mountain. I assume it is something like this here, too. While it is possible the drainage they are referring to is off the East side, and COULD get to the reservoir if there was enough runoff, the west side would definitely go to the river (I don't know the name of the river, must-go-look) and get to the reservoir. That particular river sometimes runs whitewater, which indicates it has a pretty good current, at least at times. Depending on the depth of the river bed, and the speed of the water, it could carry, or even just push, quite a few things either to the lake, or to any location in the river (where an item could get stuck or stuck for a while then move on, only to get stuck again or continue on) JMO based on walking through and rafting down rivers.

Isn't it Vallecito Creek that runs down the mountain parallel to Middle Mountain Road - IIRC Vallecito Creek is just west of the road.

Sorry if this comes out sounding cold, but tact isn't one of my strong points. I'm not at all surprised that Dylan is dead, but I'm very surprised that they found his remains. I think it says a lot for the LE there to be able to find one little boy and all/many of his belongings in that large area. Between the woods, hills, ravines and everything else, I think they deserve a lot of credit for bringing him home. I hope we'll also soon be in awe of how quickly they have a suspect jailed and charged. R.I.P.

ITA. It's like looking for a needle in a heystack. Did they really were just looking in the area, or did they have some sort of clue?

While I always suspected this result was inevitable, it doesn't make it any easier to hear.

R.I.P. sweet Dylan :rose:

I think they will remain mostly silent unless/until they have enough evidence to arrest someone, or know they don't have enough evidence and need any help that might be available from the public.

It would be comforting to know how long it takes to forensically test the remains for cause of death. Also how long it takes to test Dylan's belongings against their items already in evidence (I'm assuming from prior searches), for any "other person" DNA, and against the statements made by the father regarding those belongings.

Cause of death might not be possible to determine because of time passed.

Unless it is obvious, cause of death may never be determined. But there may be circumstances with the remains indicating foul play.

In my mind, LE had good reason to search where he was located. I do not believe for a moment he was found by chance.

Dylan, continue to soar! Praying for Elaine, Corey, Mike, Azgrandma and her sons. There are so, so many dedicated WS members who'll work for resolution. I am in awe of the love, and determination of so many individuals from different life experiences. But right now we feel and behave as a cohesive and supportive family.
May justice be swift and punishment be even swifter.

This is so sad, another darling young life lost...I'm glad that his family has closure, I wish them peace and grace and love through this horrible time. I hope that LE is able to discern what happened to this young man.

It's heartbreaking when they are found, even though you pray for the families to have answers, this is never the one you want.

RIP Dylan, I know you've been looking down on us for some time now. I sure do wish you were still here with us though.

I am going to pray that this is not true :please:

Here is an article that shows there is quite a bit they can learn (realizing of course we don't know at this time the scope of remains found)

Determining Injury and Cause of Death by Examining Bones

Homicides and various forms of abuse may warrant investigation by a forensic anthropologist. Fractured bones heal but leave signs of the injury that can be detected by a forensic anthropologist. Bones can also be damaged if a person is attacked or beaten and the followoing results may be evident:

it goes on to explain ways of how they make these determinations, for anyone interested.

I also hope they had some clues where to search.

Dylan will finally have a proper burial, I don't think there's any question about that. I just hope justice will come to the person who brutally murdered this little boy.

But something like suffocation/strangulation/poisoning will most likely not show up on autopsy after all this time. We all remember poor little Caylee Anthony. No cause of death. Mommy found not guilty and is walking free.

Is this a reporter? I'm not sure how he knows what Cory texted to MR and why he would conclude that Cory blames his Dad from this text?

Sure, be smart, see if I care. That explains the whitewater. Vallecito Creek is a class 5+ (classes run from 1-very easy to 5-extremely difficult, experts only) whitewater. I think they only allow Kayaks, not rafts.

The river runs very fast, has an uneven bottom, lots of rocks, plenty of places for anything falling in to get lost forever, beaten to a pulp or thrown up anywhere along the sides.
