Dylan Redwine Case Discussion Thread/Dylan's Remains Found

Mark made a comment today about wanting to talk to LE so he could find out exactly where Dylan was found. He wanted to be close to him. In my opinion, Mark would have known this if he had assisted in the search like Cory and Elaine. Those two just don't coincide with me. Very strange.

"I want to talk to them about going to the location so I can be close to my son, but i don't know the specific locations where the remains were found," Mark Redwine said, after explaining that his home faces Middle Mountain.

"To Dylan: I know in my heart you are out there and can see all the things that are going on."

That statement by Mark in his Durango Herald newspaper interview still creeps me out. Especially now.

Cory must be such a tower of strength for Elaine . I think Elaine is not fit enough to face the media and Cory has stepped up so that Dylan's memory is kept alive :moo: . It can not be easy but what with Mark being so disrespectful and not talking about the good times and on banging on about bones and what forth I am glad Dylan has such a amazing strong brother who can share with us what the world has lost in Dylan !

:moo:

Cory has been amazing though this whole process and he is a credit to Dylan and his mum and Mike .

Sorry, I know the subject has been discussed a lot, I couldn't for the life of me recall exactly what was said. Just wanted to check.

So essentially, either the most catastrophic, coincidental chain of events occurred meaning Dylan's phone & iPod along with the laptop and the landline all failed or Dylan was physically incapable of sending a message?

Or he didn't want to/feel like it/think it was worth bothering with?

Do we have any evidence that Dylan ever made it to MR's house that night? I always figured something happened on the way there.

Police have made a timeline indicating he did make it to his father's house. They said Dylan send some text message from the father's house.

Or he didn't want to/feel like it/think it was worth bothering with?

IMO - that is not logical . We know most of Sunday he was texting Ryan . His mum says he is a avid texter . LE have also said in the last few days

"Dylan had a very set routine. He was a very communicative fellow on the Internet and Twitter with his friends. And he had very specific definite plans with his friends and he never showed up for that...it's totally unlike Dylan."

Or he didn't want to/feel like it/think it was worth bothering with?

Except we've seen the text exchanges he had with R the night before. How he said if R wasn't there he would "call him all day". He was excited and anxious to spend time with his friends, and he hadn't spent time with them in awhile.

We have been told by various family members that Dylan was a huge texter. In the one article today, LE has stated that they know Dylan was online and texted a lot, and for him not to do so would be going against his usual pattern. I have to assume LE has seen his texting, Facebook, twitter, etc records, and they would know this is not his usual pattern.

Could he that day, when he had plans he was so excited for, have just decided that he didn't care? Could he that day randomly decide he was tired of communicating with his friends? Sure, anything is possible, but that's not likely, IMO.

I could very much follow this theory if it wasn't for the lack of phone communication. I followed the same theory for quite awhile but kept coming back to the communication. I truly believe Dylan would have communicated with his dad or a friend before he gathered his belongings and headed outside. He would have at the least responded to R's message. I have watched a young one close to me text on their phone and IPod simultaneously.
I just spent 5 days in a car with boys 15 yo and 13yo and neither of them texted anyone. When I asked them about it they just shrugged their shoulders and asked what were they supposed to say. Both are "electronically geared" and have large social groups, FB, Twitter, Kik and Instagram accounts.

Then just happened to put the body right over the top of Mark's house when there are so many places to drop a body in the area, including on the opposite side of the road? Do you think that happened by accident or the perp did that on purpose? If on purpose, was the perp making a statement? Someone who didn't like Mark or Dylan? Or someone who did and killed Dylan by accident? (say, hit and run?)

Interesting question. I don't know the exact location so I don't know if there's any special significance. The comments by Bender are of course vague - something like, you can see his subdivision where his house is, if I remember right. I would be interested if that area had any special features - a pull off area, especially dense vegetation, a large stump or rock that might give additional coverage. So no, without more specific detail about the location, heck I don't even know if the location where the remains were found was actually where they were originally left, I don't think anyone was making a statement.

Do you think Dylan was targeted or just in the wrong place, wrong time.

My problem with that theory, that a local perp ran into the opportunity and killed Dylan, is that there are no other missing locals. Was this a one time thing?

Crimes of opportunity are just that. It could very well be a one time thing. It could be an escalation of behavior. I think it's most likely someone that Dylan knew, but "he never knew a stranger" so that opens up the category quite a bit.

Thoughts on tying a perp to the evidence location or crime scene:

IMO, when the search warrants were released, the one(s) for the vehicles were intentionally left out. We know they searched the trucks and in fact hauled them away for forensic testing.

Even though the search was 10 days after Dylan's disappearance, would it be possible for there to be remnants of soil left in the truck's tire treads? This would be even less likely on shoes, but is also a slight possibility imo. Just wondering, if there is a chance there was soil in the tires that was retained as evidence, that this could then be tested against the soil that is in the area of Middle Mountain where Dylan's remains were found.

Forensics Lab 5.0: Soil Analysis – Introduction
Soil is one of the most common forms of physical evidence found at crime scenes. For example, a vehicle suspected of having been used in an armed robbery may later be found to have soil from the crime scene adhering to its tires or wheel wells, thereby establishing that that vehicle was present at the scene. Similarly, a suspected rapist or mugger may have soil adhering to clothing or shoes. (Soil specimens are often particularly easy to obtain from shoes or boots with deep tread, as shown in Figure 5-1.) If soil found on a suspect’s shoes or clothing is consistent with soil present at the crime scene, it establishes that the suspect was probably present at that location.

I just heard that Dylan was found and wanted to stop in and say RIP young man! To whomever did this, I hope justice and punishment will be severe and swift.

Hugs, prayers, and strength to the family and those who love Dylan.

Listen to Mark chuckle and say,

"They can have a homicide all they want to, but if they feel like I had any involvement with it, then why am I standing on my front porch having this conversation with you?"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsOjaB3OoGk&feature=youtu.be

You've just received, only hours ago, confirmation your son, missing for months, is deceased.
When asked how you feel about the case becoming a homicide investigation your first response is to say, in effect, "Well, it wasn't me!"

Thanks for the answers. The only thing I can think of that would be majorly different between Dylan and your boys is that your boys were supposed to be in the car with you. It would be interesting to note if they had made plans to be with someone else, to the point where they said they'd text all day if the friend did not come to the door, if they still would have shrugged and asked what were they supposed to say. Circumstances make a difference, I think.

I'll admit, I'm pretty sure of where they found the remains, within a certain circumference (see maps I posted in various locations), but that is just my opinion and I understand if others don't agree. So I am going with that area since it fits exactly what Mark and LE have said for location. The odd part is there is a pull out-on the opposite side of the road. However, if someone was trying to get the body into the drainage area, that looks fairly close to the road, just pull over and let it go. On the other hand, the remains could have been buried or partially buried and unearthed, or what was found could have been pulled there from anywhere up there. But there were countless other places to pull over that I can see from the maps, so why right there? Why not further up? (Maybe there was already snow further up?) Why not another road? Why not the lake? The location is what gets me, but I can see where you are coming from.

Wow! Where was Mark? Sorry, no need to answer I have heard his story.

On the Tricia show, Raine said Mark told her that he went to Denver for an employment orientation. It was meant to coincide nicely with his crusade efforts. Tricia asked Raine if she would feel differently about Mark if she learned that the orientation thing was a lie to which Raine answered yes. Has anyone heard of any confirmation on Mark's story?

I was looking pretty close to that spot, Ghost. Bear Creek running down there is interesting, as it gives a source to carry scent downstream. What are you using to see the pullout? Is there a street view of the road?

I put satellite maps over in the Media, Maps and Timeline thread. See if those help at all? Later, when I have access to a larger screen, I'll try to get bigger pictures.

Where I live, they call the drainage areas the places where either erosion has left a ditch or a natural area where the rain will runoff down the side of a mountain. I assume it is something like this here, too. While it is possible the drainage they are referring to is off the East side, and COULD get to the reservoir if there was enough runoff, the west side would definitely go to the river (I don't know the name of the river, must-go-look) and get to the reservoir. That particular river sometimes runs whitewater, which indicates it has a pretty good current, at least at times. Depending on the depth of the river bed, and the speed of the water, it could carry, or even just push, quite a few things either to the lake, or to any location in the river (where an item could get stuck or stuck for a while then move on, only to get stuck again or continue on) JMO based on walking through and rafting down rivers.

Many times in the west, when referring to drainages, what is meant is the entire area between two mountain ranges that will eventually drain to a stream, river, lake, or reservoir.

Perhaps LE set up searches on the drainage areas because of the hits by cadaver dogs at the lake--maybe the spring runoff carried the scent downhill?

Thanks Ghost. I was just wondering f you had a better visual than the satellite view.
