This whole thing (EBOLA) is a big bunch of crap. I cannot believe this has been going on for years in this region of the world and no travel restrictions have been put in place. It's like the government does not want to take care of us. Cough, Cough......like they really would to begin with. I am going to quit life and become Amish

And why isn't there a vaccine yet? Or more of whatever it's called that was given to a Doctor who came to US?

It was inevitable that with international travel being what it is, that we would have Ebola here in the US. It is not the fault of anyone, despite what fearmongering, biased outlets such as Breitbart say. Experts were saying back in the summer that we would see cases. It is merely an outcome of living in an ever more inter-connected world. There is no blame to be assigned - for example, I recall absolutely no one blaming president bush when SARS (a much more easily communicable disease) showed up in the US ten or so years ago.

Has anyone here who is in a panic about this read anytjing at all about how Ebola was contained in Nigeria? Does anyone honestly think we cannot do the same here?

A last thing to consider - if this scares you (general you, not anyone specifically), then make sure you vote for candidates who support a fully funded public health system, and don't look to cut public health funding in order to finance to "solve" "budget crises" (quotes intentional).

Over 80 exposed?!

This is crazy. I've had 1010 WINS on this morning and they have repeated several times that the "risk to passengers is so low they ARE NOT CONTACTING THE PASSENGERS"

WTF???

My first thought was neighbor dogs and cats going and licking the area where the vomit was and then going home and being played with by children...licking them etc. UGH!

His linen and clothes... do those apts have their own washer/dryer or does the bldg share? Did a trained crew come in and clean that whole area at all, since? ugh

Given that people get on planes even after they were exposed, why are we allowing travel from these affected regions?
How many people got infected because this guy got on the plane and came here? His own relatives? Strangers?

They said on the news this morning that not only should they test people leaving Liberia but they should be tested when they arrive at their destination esp if the flight takes over 7 hrs to land.

Sars is nothing compared to EBOLA. I dont care who the president is or was I'd feel the same way who ever was in office if it was not taken care of..as in no flights in and out of that area. Other countries have done it why can't we. Theres not so much revenue to be lost that it should matter right? Besides protecting our people should be priority shouldn't it? Yea eventually it may have happened with international travel etc I agree, but common sense would be to at least not encourage the problem. JMO

Also sars is not eradicated, it still exists. There is also avian flu still and other terrible diseases etc in other countries that are not being addressed here.. But Ebola..is a big scary mess.

I think anyone coming from Africa should be quarantined for 30 days before leaving the continent. Check out his flight schedules.

The patient, identified as Thomas Eric Duncan by CBS Dallas station KTVT, left Monrovia, Liberia, on Sept. 19 aboard a Brussels Airlines jet to the Belgian capital, according to a Belgian official. After layover of nearly seven hours, he boarded United Airlines Flight 951 to Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C. After another layover of nearly three hours, he then flew Flight 822 from Dulles to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, the airline confirmed.

PS. Then there's flights in and out of Lagos, Nigeria to Amsterdam etc

they are saying 18 not eighty , but I dont believe he saw just 18 people? what about the emer room staff that sent him hom with the antibotics , no one has said a word about who saw him the first time being quarentened (SP)

I was really young when the AIDS scare of the early 80s began. Now I have a sense of what that was like - the panic, the misinformation, the fear, the hate, the blame... Ugh. People are sometimes at their worst when a new "crisis" arises, it seems.

If he lives I am quite sure he will stay, he has a "fiancee" in Dallas after all. I wouldn't be surprised if he met her online.

I sure hope he did not have sex with her...

According to previous posts, they upped the number to 80.

The number of contacts will always be higher than is probably warranted in order to err on the side of caution. Again, see the situation in Nigeria - at one point over 400 contacts were quarantined in one town. As a result, they kept their outbreak to 20 cases I believe it was.
