BBM. Yes, I am hung up on this issue and don't understand why others don't think family planning is an issue in diseased and poverty stricken countries. It's the same here in the USA with those on welfare and living in slums having more and more kids, kids whose future is pretty much doomed from the start. Same in Libera. This Louise lady has at least 5 from various fathers. So, I think birth control is a huge issue.

Poverty and high birth rates are inextricably linked and always have been.

African countries have suffered from appalling governments and civil wars over the years, none of which help stabily and prosperity.

However, they have also been saddled with massive dept - the IMF attaches repayment conditions which are little better than your average loan shark. But this is all probably more appropriate in the politics forum.

May you sincerely find peace in heaven Mr. Duncan. I am so sorry to hear this awful news. May your family find love and comfort somehow through this tragedy.

I'm sorry to hear Mr. Duncan has passed away.

I pray no one else in Louise's family becomes symptomatic - it must be very scary waking up every day wondering about every little ache and pain, if it's going to turn into something more.

:(

Yes, unfortunately, the patient in Texas has died.

But, hey, don't worry. The US is going to start taking temps at the airport. Yeah...that'll help. Especially, if, like this poor guy, you have no fever at the time you enter the airport.

Rather like closing the barn door, after all the cows are out. Who's the mastermind behind that particular decision???

How about...putting anyone from an international flight in quarantine for 28 days? I know, probably not a popular solution, but as I see it, the only one, right now.

No news is good news re: the family getting sick. It's been so many days now. I hope that means their odds are getting better with every day. Seems even though incubation is 21 days ( forgive me for sounding naive here ) that the latter part of those 21 days would be LESS dangerous than the earlier part of those 21 days. So , I think we're getting into better shape every day.

I agree with the quarantine - It may sound like a harsh solution, but this is a harsh disease.
They quarantine pets going to HI - won't let certain plant life through in fear of invasive growth.
But, hey, no problem with potential infected people that could wipe out hundreds or more.
Let's roll out the red carpet.

No need to be inhumane with the quarantine - better safe than sorry, and I think the only way to prevent the spread.

Yea it's pretty bad when plants get more protection than we do huh.?

RIP Mr. Duncan, a child of God. As a resident of Dallas, I'm sorry we didn't do better. Love, peace and comfort for all of the grieving and heartfelt thanks to all of the dedicated care givers.

I continue to hold tightly to the fact that none of the monitored are showing symptoms. Pray it stays that way for all of us.

its sad he passed away. I thought he was getting better. Now I pray that the other people he infected will be ok.

Health officials have identified 10 people, including seven health workers, who had direct contact with Duncan while he was contagious. Another 38 people also may have come into contact with him. The four people living in the northeast Dallas apartment where Duncan stayed have been isolated in a private residence.

I respect others religious beliefs, so don't want to offend. Mr. Duncan will most certainly be welcomed to heaven for the care and selfless compassion he showed for the dying pregnant woman he helped. Bless his heart.

Surely if there is a heaven - and most days I'm not sure, at best - Mr Duncan will be there, for that single act of human kindness which ultimately cost him his life, and caused him to be hated and feared by so many.

I am not sure that Ebola will be as pervasive like H1N1 was. The likelihood that any of us will come into contact with someone with Ebola seems very very low. I am not panicking either. And I am the lone survivor of H1N1 Pneumonia in the United States who was diagnosed in October 2009. Of the 15, 14 died. There was no vaccine at that time and healthy people, like me, died. JMV

The sadest thing is the world had all these years from 1975 until now to research ebola and to find a cure. they didnt.
because it was seen as a no profit research. as only poor africans got ebola and they wouldnt pay for it.

now they are rushing to find a cure.

i might be the only only one thinking like this
just like i am apparently the only one thinking fencing the affected countries in and letting nature do the rest is not a solution.
but i say it anyway.

You're not the only one thinking it. Thanks for saying it.
