Louise Troh released a statement saying she trusts "a thorough examination will take place" into Duncan's care.

I am not sure that Ebola will be as pervasive like H1N1 was. The likelihood that any of us will come into contact with someone with Ebola seems very very low. I am not panicking either. And I am the lone survivor of H1N1 Pneumonia in the United States who was diagnosed in October 2009. Of the 15, 14 died. There was no vaccine at that time and healthy people, like me, died. JMV

A friend of mine was one of those healthy people who died from H1N1 Pneumonia during that time period. As for Ebola, I don't think too many of us should worry about that since the only way it's spread is through contact with bodily fluids. The regular flu is still more deadly at this point.

I do not have a link for this (disclaimer). I read that dogs in Africa caught Ebola from eating infected people. I know this is not pretty, but I do believe it probably happened. Obviously here in the US, we have a better system of handling infected people other than having them dying in the streets. As of now anyway....

This was discussed at length several pages back. Just because dogs have been exposed it does NOT mean they got "infected" or became contagious. Our (human, canine, etc...) bodies produce antibodies for most all "new" pathogens even if they cannot possibly make us sick.

To date they know some dogs have antibodies that show exposure to Ebola but there is NO evidence that the dogs ever became sick or even developed an infection. If dogs could get sick we can be sure the dogs in those areas WOULD get sick, they do NOT get medical treatment, vaccines, or even food, they scavenge to survive so they would be the MOST VULNERABLE creatures in those locales.

:banghead::banghead::banghead: Does she think the son should have been allowed into the isolation unit to get himself infected??? This woman still doesn't get it. Maybe the son could have made an effort to reconnect with Duncan before he was critical.

She doesn't have a basis for complaint of his care, it's far more than he would have gotten in Liberia and the hospital will be picking up the cost of his stay, from what I've read: There is no way to know whether any specific treatment or step might have saved his life, just as whether any experimental drug he did or did not receive helped. He was getting advanced care — dialysis to treat kidney failure, a breathing machine and an experimental antiviral drug — when he died.

I don't even know what this means. That he may have been treated negligently and that's why he died ? Because its' a very common and innocent virus and only killed him ? So the doctors must have done something wrong? What does it mean?

Being somewhat cynical, I see $$$$ in the statement. (Let the circus begin.)

I don't think for one second that $$$ had anything to do with why Duncan died. The government is trying VERY VERY hard to convince the public "this is no big deal" so they surely wouldn't have allowed the first Ebola patient in the U.S. to die to save a few bucks.

If anything they would do whatever they could to SAVE that first. They don't want the sheeple more concerned.

Sorry, wasn't clear. I see the family suing the hospital. JMO

So now the Spanish Nurse thinks she got the virus from "touching her face" while treating the priest with Ebola.

What kind of hazmat suit allows the wearer to "touch their face"? Link includes video and also a picture of the nurse with her beloved dog.

I read that too but then read she thought it happened while taking off the suit and somehow contaminated herself then.?

No, I took Yoda's comment to mean Louise will try to sue. There may be a political reason for JJ to be in town?

Oh yeah that, I am sure there are ambulance chasers racing to reach Duncan's son as we speak! I am also sure some saw this coming and forged a relationship days ago.

The contamination occurs when you are changing out of your suit at the end of your shift rather than during it I would have thought. There is another FM who has posted quite a lot about barrier nursing and infection control. I am sorry I cannot recall their name.

I believe one has to keep gloves on whilst removing the suit/gown and hood (because the outside of those garments is likely to be contaminated.) I assume a slip when removing the hood, or potentially a really itchy nose and an inadvertent move to scratch it while she still had her gloves on is a more likely scenario.

Color me confused as well SCHMAE. Perhaps Ms. Troh's journey through the stages of grief, played out under an international spotlight that was brought upon her by her fiancé's choices, are playing into this quote. Regardless of how we may feel about this case, she is grieving, as is her son. No doubt, she has and will continue to replay these events over and over again for a long time to come.

As we dissect this case, I try to maintain sympathy with the players. Yet, I am unable to reconcile many issues that I will not address in this post. It is so complex, and not something that will be solved easily nor anytime soon. I know for the sake of mankind that we must find a way to figure this all out expeditiously. All of our futures depend on it.

Or....You can have a co-worker in a clean hazmat suit HELP THE PERSON that was treating the infected individual, spray them down with a disinfectant and let it sit for 5-10 minutes, and then help them REMOVE the infected suit so they do NOT touch the outside and then touch themselves in the process.

Disinfect suit first, have second person helping, a pair of $2 bbq tongs could remove the gloves of the helper ensuring NO CONTACT WHATSOEVER with infected surfaces.

But hey I ain't no medical expert, I just have common sense.

Well they seem to think it happened when she was undressing, not because her hazmat suit allowed her to touch her face and that was all I was saying.

A doctor in Madrid says the Spanish nurse infected with Ebola remembers touching her face with her gloves after treating a dying priest.

Ms Romero told the El Pais newspaper that she might have become infected when removing her protective suit after cleaning Mr Garcia Viejo's room.

"I think the error was the removal of the suit," she told El Pais by phone. "I can see the moment it may have happened, but I'm not sure about it."

She added that she did not have a fever on Wednesday and was "doing better".

I would like to feel sympathy towards her, I really would! But it's hard, first of all given her fiance's poor choices, then she compounds it by lashing out more than once with inaccurate statements about how shabbily they all were treated and hinting at the race/poverty cards. I'm not alone in my feelings, their online fundraising site only raised $50.

Hello popsicle. Is this Frisco, TX?

J.D. Miles (@jdmiles11) tweeted at 11:49am - 8 Oct 14:

#BREAKING hazmat on scene at Care Now in #Frisco where there's a possible #Ebola related scare (https://twitter.com/jdmiles11/status/519922605277872128)

Curious that Frisco is where the fake story was last week and the kid who wrote it up got arrested. I wonder if there was a touch of truth to his ' fake story' and he just embellished some things?
