So this IMO is probably the reason she's being transferred to Emory...bc maybe before she was trusted to stay quarantined but didn't so now she's been taken to a facility where she's under mandatory supervised quarantine? Maybe?

Well, she's infected, so yeah, pretty mandatory I'd say.

Or because she is really really sick.

Emory isn't a prison, no need to fly her to Georgia just to keep her in quarantine.

I read somewhere that either WHO or CDC is requesting appropriate security monitor doors to whatever quarantined rooms in the future not only to prevent patient leaving and protect public outsiders, but also to make sure protocol is followed. Have you heard anything about that?

However, it could have still been in his urine and excrement. 5 hour layover...public restrooms...

Also on a long international flight I have noticed the conditions in the restrooms are bad, urine on floor and on seat.I went right after a man who just woke up and did not bother to lift the seat and pee'd all over the seat and left it.I had to clean it,I wanted to go to him and make him clean it.I have also seen passengers walk into restroom with only socks.Sorry for the graphic post.

Yesterday Nina was upgraded to GOOD condition so it sounds like she will beat this. I suspect that Amber is very ill............and may have been ill for several days........JMO

Yikes....and just on a plane possibly infecting other people. My gut feeling is that down played how she felt and that she was sick on that plane.

Gross!

People suck.

Huh? So the airline informed the city authorities?

Why the sudden transfer to Emory when the other nurse had NOT been transferred? This does not sound good.

:notgood:

Worse yet I expect HIPPA laws to be enforced vehemently which could stop all news of more infections.

Right, plus I wonder if she was helping Duncan when Pham was, then when did she actually start showing symptoms?

Sometimes people have no manners.

No I haven't, but I no longer work in a hospital environment.

Per WKYC, Nurse infected is related to three Kent State employees. KSU is (or has) put out a statement to the KSU community.

ETA: They're also saying Vincent never left the home she was visiting while she was here in Ohio. Also saying that when she noticed an increase in her temp, she immediately contacted the appropriate people.

Ewww, ewwww, ewwww!!!!!! To it all....but the BBM.....shudders. I get on my hubby and kids cases b/c they typically want to wear flip flops to the airport b/c it's easier...I always argue, but then you're walking around on those floors with bare feet! :scared:

That's what I keep wondering about. Could she have actually been more sick than reported?

I won't argue that she's a victim, but will have to agree to disagree about the rest. Regardless of what administrators or CDC official sound bites state, just watching the evening news would likely make most people feel concerned, and possibly even question the accuracy of the official rhetoric.

Even if she was in Cleveland when she learned of her co-workers fate, once she had that info, then she could no longer be considered "low risk" regardless of what was being stated by the CDC. She should never have boarded the plane back to Dallas.

MOO and all that

And now I see your ETA..... :)

I have been following this thread and the news from the start.
We have had many knowledgeable nurses and educated medical workers commenting and from the start even they down played the transmission risks.
So, from the sounds of it the health care workers participating in Duncan's care-only broke protocol-because they didnt know any better. So, this leaves me to conclude that the young nurse did not feel a serious threat. I am sure the young girl/woman is terrified as is her family. Someone has downplayed this at the stake of human lives.

No worry to agree to disagree, its all good.
After her co-worker became ill-I think she most likely asked for others opinion on how to handle the situation. I am sure she would rather be home with family enjoying life, love, and laughter.

ETA; Many prayers sent out to this young woman and her family. I am so sorry. This must be so terrifying for you all. God Bless.

News is reporting the 2nd nurse had a low grade fever on the airplane.

You know, in August when people were freaking about the patients admitted to Emory, I said that what scared me the most was someone who knew they were sick but got on a plane anyway.

I never in my wildest dreams believed that it would be one of my own, A NURSE, who would do such a thing. If this is true, I just don't know what to say about this young woman. Scared or no, there's no excuse for it.

Goodness yes. Commercial aircraft restrooms are the worst! I try to avoid them at all costs, but it's impossible on International flights. People can be pretty careless and disgusting in public restrooms, but add a little turbulence into the mix and you've got yourself a germ landmine - urine not just on floors and seats - think walls and sink! Be careful in there!

Nrdsb4, from my understanding he could have been asymptomatic on the outside but internally the Ebola would be present, in which case it could show in his urine, excrement, spit, sweat. One sec & I'll find what I came across yesterday.

ETA - Found it. Looks like this actually kills 2 birds with one stone so to speak. Dogs definitely can carry the virus and pass to humans. Here's a PDF directly from the WHO and is from a study way back in 2000-2001. 6 pages - all is a must read.

Bump for nrdsb4. Did you happen to see this link?
