Friedman up. So far, I dont see his message changing than what he has told before in other interviews. This should get good when questions to him are asked.

Africa is still the main threat (ebola spreading in Africa)...

Control it at the source...

Exit screenings from countries with ebola. If fever, can't leave African country. Added new level of screening people arriving in US for fever...

I'm starting to think its impossible to keep up.

Head of CDC - (sorry crappy notes, not complete).

Only by direct contact, isn't new, we know how to control Ebola, tried and true measures. Finding patients promptly, finding their contacts, isolate everybody. Not easy to control the virus. We have to stop it at the source.
Head of CDC fears Ebola is spreading in Africa thus will spread everywhere (ya think?).

Established exit screening. 74 people have been turned away. Another level of screening people at arrival to the U.S. He'll provide details later - he'll be happy to. Laboratory screening places have been developed.
CDC is open to ideas to help prevent spreading. Concern is understandable about cases in Dallas. Two core activities in Dallas - follow contacts and isolate (OMG - one contact flew on a commercial flight that had five more flights prior to being isolated!)

Frieden: giving a sort of CV of his experience. "Ebola spreads only by direct contact..." "We know how to control Ebola..." "Finding the patients properly, isolating effectively, identifying contacts..."

CDC just told Congress that it is spread only by direct contact with an infected individual.

ETA: this could be further interpreted.

For the first time ever I've lost respect for the CDC.

Does anyone have a free/no sign up live stream that is showing the slides? I'm doing the FOX screen live stream and it's not showing slides to screen capture.

TIA

Yadda yadda yadda 24/7 no short cuts. Break the chain of transmission. Open to new ideas and data.

Dr Fauci is up: 9/11 began the research of bio pathogens (anthrax, smallpox, etc). NIH: research, vaccines, diagnostics, etc... Talking now about the medicine therapy on development, vaccine development-- phase I trials started in September in NIH. Military started another phase I trial. It is conceivable that we will need a vaccine. Nina Pham is going to NIH.

Dr. Robison, HHS: government made some company to research advanced emerging infectious diseases and bio-terror diseases. Responding to Ebola. (He is kind of a mush mouth). Best way to protect US is to deal with Africa.

He isn't interesting (my apologies).

Phase 1 trial almost complete for Vaccine development. Can't release until they know its safe.
Clinical studies institute of health. One of the survivors will go there to be part of a study? (didn't catch)
Pham being flown to MD.

CDC cleared Ebola-stricken nurse to fly.

Focus on stopping the virus in Africa.

CDC may ban 76 TX hospital workers from flying

Frontier grounds 6 crew members

Some Texas and Ohio schools are closed due to Ebola fear

Agree! Can't process what he is saying. He's speaking so fast.

Texas Hospital "deeply sorry" for Ebola mistakes

Chipmunk, you said, "Giving antibiotics just allows more room for a virus to grow, awful."

I've wondered about this as I read that in Sierra Leone that have a national policy now to treat pts. in their home by giving them gloves, rehydration, and antibiotics!

Antibiotics help in fighting secondary infections.

Dr. Borio, USDA:

Need vaccines and safe treatment, proactive and flexible. Guide companies. Reviewing data. Advance products quickly. USDA working with other agencies.

  • #518
Bet those companies she just mentioned - their stock will go up significantly

Borio: each US patient has been treated with at least one experimental treatment.
