Do you mean if you knew you were exposed to someone with it you would not tell? You don't have to answer, but I have wondered this. I've thought about people seeing on the news about getting quarantined in their home out of work for nearly a month and their pets and or possessions seized and wondered if people would decline. Yes, some would be too afraid of getting sick and want the authorities to know to track them. But surely there would be some others who would just take a chance and pray because they don't want to go through all of that for a possible exposure. It's a life altering event to just accidentally be on a plane after someone .

This comes with deadly consequences and NOT just to oneself.

Dallas local radio station played a snippet of convo with Amber Vinson's mother. She didn't give any details, but she said that Amber was "doing okay." Of course, as any mother would, she is dying to get to her daughter. Asked what she will do if she isn't given clearance to fly, she said "buy a really good pair of walking shoes." Not exact quote, but you get the gist.

As a mother, I totally get it.

It's been said that if a quarantine was increased to 42 days to cover the 3-5% of cases which could potentially show up that long after exposure, you would definitely get people NOT being honest about exposure. If you were a rather distant contact, the prospect of being out of work, or away from family, or stuck inside some kind of quarantine facility for 6 weeks might seem unreasonable, and you would be far less likely to own up to your exposure, and they could completely be unable to monitor that person.

Everything known at this point, - the media calling being "near" (and that they stretched to a unreal notion) as "exposure" has proven to not be the case. SO, if everything is as is, no, I would not tell someone I was in a reataurant with someone 4 tables away, who later made the news .Becasue IMO, I have not been exposed!

If someone in restaurant fell down, cut their head and was bleeding on or really close to me , and when I saw the news I would take action. Its just that with the passage of time, and all the 100's and 100s of media hypes, and everyone of all those are all clear, I jsut have to come to the concsluion that "exposure" to the media is a far different to the experts that have worked with virus for decades.

The only ones that have gotten sick are health care here, and the numbers over there increase the panic here while not acknoeledging the vastly different hygene societies involved. Especilly when we are talking about having learned that the most dangerwous phase of the illiness, is after dealth - ...... people, for months , kissing the deceased, touching holding them while the are the most toxic, media just glosses over that fact--- when it reality it is a huge coponent of the whole sitution.

Even over there, if it was that easy to contract there numbers would be a LOT higher I would think

thus far there is not only experts saying one cannot get it like that , and we all have watched over and over people being "exposed by sharing some space together and all have been fine. Same panic, went on with HIV. and decades later nothing mutated, Ebola has been around for 4 decades with no mutations,

just my notions!

SO TOUCHING. Im surprised they didn't transport her to be closer. I imagine that the logistics of a potential ebola case walking around a facility would be impossible. i hope she has the relief of being able to skype and see her daughter rallying and improving it could alleviate a lot of anxiety for both women.

Additionally, Emory Healthcare has now put on the internet their Ebola preparedness protocols. http://www.emoryhealthcare.org/ebola-protocol/ehc-message.html
Emory Healthcare is committed to sharing our processes and learning on how to provide safe, effective care for patients with Ebola Virus Disease. To that end, we have created the Emory Healthcare Ebola website, which includes our policies, procedures and tools we have developed within Emory Healthcare to enable our physicians and staff to deal safely and effectively with various risk categories of patients who could be or are infected with the Ebola virus. We are posting and sharing our information on this website as quickly as possible, with the hope that it can help other health care systems develop their own Ebola readiness plans

Medical workers at University Hospital in Newark have isolated a sick passenger who landed at Newark Liberty Airport from Brussels and are evaluating him "as if he has Ebola" out of extreme caution, sources tell NBC 4 New York.

The man, a Liberian national, had traveled from Liberia to Brussels before flying into Newark on United Airlines Flight 998 just before 1 p.m., Tuesday, officials said.

He waited in line with other passengers at the customs check-in, and then was singled out for a health screening by agents because of his recent travel history, sources familiar with the screening said.

That's when officers discovered he had a fever, according to the sources. He was transported to University Hospital, which has a contract with the Port Authority to take all of Newark Airport's medical cases.

Ebola victim's family says hospital refuses to release records after his death

The family of the first Ebola victim to die in the United States says the hospital that cared for him has refused for weeks to release lab results showing the effects of an experimental drug treatment, fanning their suspicions that the facility mishandled the case. More at link . . .

Quick is good. That means he is in good shape. The nurse in Spain is also virus free but they are not releasing her from the hospital because her general condition is not good.

IA quick is good, I just found it surprising, especially since he didn't get the Zmapp.

Bentley's Test Results

On Monday, October 21, samples from Bentley were sent to a lab to be tested for Ebola. The test results show that Bentley has tested negative for the virus. Specimen collection will be conducted again before the end of the 21-day quarantine period. Bentley will be monitored for a full 21-day period, similar to people exposed to the Ebola virus.

The City of Dallas Animal Services is overseeing Bentley’s care in partnership with the Texas Animal Health Commission, Texas A&M University and the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Nina Pham, Bentley’s owner, continues to be cared for at the National Institutes of Health, NIH, in Maryland. The City of Dallas and DAS are communicating daily updates to Nina on the testing throughout the process.

Please click here for information about Dallas PETS (Pet Emergency Transition Services) fund, created to raise money for the care of Bentley and other pets in similar emergency situations in the future. Please follow Dallas Animal Services on Facebook and Twitter for regular updates on Bentley.

One possible explanation has to do with medical privacy and authorization laws, and how those designations automatically change at death. But most families are not aware of that.

The article makes it clear that Duncan had designated his sister as his medical POA. But ...

Under Texas law (and probably most states) a POA of any kind expires at death, as the decision-making passes from the deceased (who, being dead, no longer has legal standing) to the estate of the deceased, and the ones designated by the estate to handle whatever he left behind. If Presby was on top of things, with Duncan's death they would have legally shut off access and POA authority, as the law requires, and await new instructions from the estate of the deceased.

From the article, it sounds like that's exactly what happened. And, once they sort it out and go through the proper procedure, in all likelihood this will turn out to be much ado about nothing. The family will probably have to go to probate court, submit the proper documentation, and then be able to provide Presby the court's legal okay to forward records. It's a pain in the butt for the family, but the hospital has legal issues to comply with.
