Mostly a re-hash--these are the only things I saw that are new:

And a mandatory quarantine was lifted for a homeless man who later rode in the same ambulance as Mr. Duncan before it was disinfected.

An unnamed Dallas philanthropist plans to donate tens of thousands of dollars to Ms. Troh, the officials said.

... I would like her to sue the CDC, but then that means I am paying her which is just a disgusting thought.

I'm sure that the CDC has better things to do with their money than pay lawsuits. Maybe just send them a scathing letter. :)

Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone — the African countries afflicted by the Ebola outbreak — have a combined population of about 22 million on a continent with more than 1 billion people. Their corner of West Africa encompasses an area the size of California

Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf says the whole world has a stake in the fight against Ebola.
In a "letter to the world" broadcast on the BBC, she said the disease "respects no borders", and that every country had to do all it could to help fight it.
President Johnson Sirleaf added that a generation of Africans were at risk of "being lost to economic catastrophe".
The Ebola outbreak has killed more than 4,500 people across West Africa, including 2,200 in Liberia.
International donations have so far fallen well short of the amounts requested by UN agencies and aid organisations.

Phoenix Air talks about transporting both Texas Health Presbyterian nurses diagnosed with Ebola.
On the company's last two missions, there were two pilots in the cockpit and three medical staff members, including one person overseeing the process. That person doesn't wear protective gear, as he serves as the eyes and ears of the staff.
Davis' company has been a part of a dozen Ebola-related missions, but it wasn't until the last two days — when it flew Pham to Maryland, and her Ebola-stricken coworker Amber Vinson to Atlanta — that it had flown patients within the U.S.

Ebola Panic Reaches New Heights As Maine Teacher Is Put On Leave Because She Visited Dallas

An elementary school teacher in Maine has been placed on leave for 21 days, the incubation period of Ebola, after she visited Dallas to attend an educational conference. The teacher did not come into contact with anybody who had tested positive for the virus, but did stay at a hotel “exactly 9.5 miles away from Texas Health Presbyterian,” where Ebola patients have been treated.

I saw the thread title and thought surely you were exaggerating, wfgodot!

My mistake. This is indeed the stupidest thing in the history of the world. (And I lived through the early years of the AIDS epidemic in NYC and thought I had seen plenty of stupid reactions to panic.)

I think they got a lot of complains. At least they listened here (unlike Spain).

I don't think Dallas Animal Services had any clue about what that vet school planned to do. Not sure if you missed it but when the article broke Saturday morning (about 3 weeks of no human contact) I posted it on their facebook page and they knew NOTHING about it and said that can't be right. Within an hour they posted again and said the vets "now say" the cage will only be for brief periods.

Dallas Animal Services was technically in charge of his care so they didn't wait for the complaints (they have received a LOT of donations in support of Bentley, they seem to be a very active shelter with events and promotions, likely closely aligned with rescue groups so their own people would be furious about the situation).

This may have been mentioned before but I had not heard about this until today. Link below. Supposedly the boyfriend of one of the patients has been hosptalized. I guess it is just a rumor right now but since they appear to have the letter sent to other employees, I dont know why it would be classified as just a rumor. Unless maybe they think someone made up the letter or something.

IMO, it looks like it could be true since the letter is actually shown. I didnt read where any testing actually confirmed he had it or not so maybe he just felt sick. Or maybe it was just a precaution.

This is how I think our officials contribute to the rumors and hysteria. They should just be honest with people and state the facts. Like why are they even trying to hide the fact he was admitted for observation if he truly was admitted. There is no reason to hide things and that contributes to the rumors and hysteria IMO.

It will be interesting to find out if he really is in hospital or not and if he is, then what are the testing results.

Remember the press conference when they announced a second nurse (turned out to be Amber) tested positive? At that time a reporter woman asked if this was "one of the two people" that was being kept for observation (or something like that). The head guy then said "No, it was another individual".

I thought Nina's boyfriend was one of those that were held for observation (that was before any other healthcare workers were even on the watch list).

Anyone else ever hear about those two people? Seems that part has been very mysterious.

Last year Malaria killed 207,000,000 (!!!) people, a child every minute. Funding to fight Malaria still falls short. I can't help but wonder if Ebola would have been largely ignored too, if it hadn't spread to western countries.

Could just be a "big announcement" saying the first group has reached the 21 day mark.

It's amazing how we get assumptions of ebola on every corner. Every test for ebola becomes a new ebola case, in the discussion. Every person in 21-day isolation gets assumed to have ebola, because they are in isolation. Every "continued observation" of someone, based on the possibility they might have been exposed because they were in the vicinity to a person with ebola (not assumed to be infected, just around them at some point) brings alarms of "more ebola." And if we don't have privacy-invasive updates on all of those in isolation, or under observation and not even deemed worthy of isolation, if we don't know all there is know about all of them at our every whim, assumptions get made that something dire is being hidden.

The media is part of the problem, but where they don't do it, it gets done anyhow. Including here.

If there's one thing we should recognize at this point, it's that there is no secret ebola patient.

If ANYONE new were to be diagnosed with ebola, it's going to be big news and be impossible to hide, as their every friend, neighbor, and passer-by is going to be brought into the loop for evaluation, observation, and perhaps isolation.

RESPECTFULLY, this is completely incorrect information! There were 207 million people who had malaria, but not 201 million deaths!!!! According to WHO there were 627,000 deaths, just over half of ONE million. Not remotely close to 201 million, still a huge amount, but it is important to have accurate information.

Unless of course they were already in isolation and all of the contacts had been mentioned before.
