Emergency meeting called at Buckingham Palace in London

If it was terror related the police, MI5/6 security services or Prime Minister Theresa May in Downing Street would make the announcement not Buckingham Palace.

Greg,
Thank you for your informative posts about this. :great:

Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 91st birthday on April 21 (1926). I'm not certain about the line of succession, but I believe the Queen can decide to pass the scepter to William instead of Charles. I wouldn't be happy with a Queen Camilla, and I doubt many Brits would, either. Even though Camilla would have no power, she would still be known as Queen. :moo:

I think Charles will be King the Queen is very much a traditionalist and one for following protocol. The most popular young royal is Harry believe it or not. Many people believe William and the Duchess of Cambridge are work shy because they are doing so few engagements a year compared to the older royals. It will be interesting to see how they handle doing more engagements now Prince Philip is retiring and the Queen is slowing down a little.

William and Kate are focused on raising their two adorable children. Once the little ones are older and in school, perhaps the young couple will feel less obligated to spend much of their time with George and Charlotte and reach out more to the public. :moo:

...skipping over what she knows will be a lifelong "scar" on the monarchy if Charles/Camilla are ascended...

Hmm....

makes sense (from her history of protecting the monarchy) if this could be done.

Wowsers.

I agree with you I don't think the criticism is fair on them. I think after what happened to Princess Diana William wants a more private personal life too as much as is possible.

Prince Philip to Retire: The Duke of Edinburgh’s Most Memorable Quips

by F. Brinley Bruton

Britain's Prince Philip — who announced Thursday that he is retiring from royal duties later this year — is renowned for his sometimes-offensive quips and putdowns.

Here are some of the most famous (and infamous) comments attributed to the consort, who has been married to Queen Elizabeth II for 70 years:

"And what exotic part of the world do you come from?" the Duke of Edinburgh asked British politician John Taylor in 1999. Taylor, whose parents were from Jamaica, replied he was from Birmingham, one of England's biggest cities.

"If you stay here much longer, you'll go home with slitty eyes," he told a British student in China in 1986...

And if they had more of a public life, they would be criticized for not staying home and raising their kids.

I can only imagine the concerns William has after what happened to his mother and I applaud him for having his own mind about his personal life.

As we all know, Charles has grown old waiting for his turn to become King.

Personally, I don't believe he will be able to handle the stress and demands the position calls for after a lifetime of "easy living". Sure, he has had his royal duties, but nowhere close to the demands being King will be.

Charles will be taking the position of King at an age when most people are slowing down, not speeding up. As a new King, his presence will be requested and expected at many functions and countries.

I don't think he is up to it. He comes from a family with strong genes who have lived long lives. However, they also have not lived the spoiled lazy life that Charles appears to have lived for nearly 70 years.

My opinions only.

"Take heart, for when Albion's need is greatest: Arthur will rise again."

Or, they'd be criticized for letting nannies raise the children. Kate and William appear to be loving, doting parents who truly enjoy their children and family life.

Bluesneakers,

It's no wonder you are a favorite poster

Have a wonderful day!!

If the media weren't so trigger-happy thinking one of them is going to die at any moment, then this meeting might not have been leaked and we would have just found out at ten o' clock without all the build-up.

The Queen's mother lived to 104...if the Queen lives that long, then Charles would be almost 80 years old. How many retirees would be wanting all of that instead of a decent retirement? William would be about 45-50 by then, a better age for him and Catherine to take over more of the traveling duties having raised their family, and Charles could do the ceremonial duties etc.

As for Camilla, she won't be called Queen, and although the marital infidelity is wrong and distasteful, they seem to be a good couple who adore each other and Camilla seems to give Charles the support he needs.

I would like to take this moment to invite Prince Philip to join us at Websleuths now that he will have a bit of time on his hands. I don't think we have a verified royal insider. I believe he can get that title even though he is retired.

haha he'd be on a TO in less than a week, unless he could give himself a WS Royal Pardon

I think he could negotiate that with Tricia. I would be comfortable with a Royal Pardon.

His joining would makeup for keeping her and others up late last night.
