Emergency meeting called at Buckingham Palace in London

[bbm] by the establishment and some family members

I was a teenager in the 1990s. Before her death, Diana was widely viewed as an unstable, emotionally unbalanced figure. When she took an unauthorised visit to Angola about land mines, the British government was livid and she was branded a loose cannon. Had she not died, she would have faced serious repercussions from the government for speaking out on land mines.

But that was all forgotten after her death.

As Jimi Hendrix sang "everyone loves you when your six feet in the ground".

I still believe the 'emergency' royal staff meeting in the middle of the night was a rehearsal, an that Prince Philip's retirement was a good enough reason to hold a full rehearsal.

LadyL, remember "what's she going to do next, jump in front of a speeding hoover?" quip after Diana revealed she half-heartedly tried to self-harm?

She was negatively viewed by more than just the "establishment" and "some of the Royal Family".

There was an interesting comment on Twitter by someone who said he believed Phil was the last person still in public life who had actively fought in WWII.
