Emmys will edit Kathy Griffin’s offensive speech

Great, SieSie! Now I will have that song stuck in my head today! LOL I will break out singing it at work and people will have fits.
LOL - which one, Special Fred or Lullabye? They're both great! LMAO.

I know what you mean, sherri. We stick mostly with the Disney channel around here. We are getting rid of cable eventually, we just have to wean ourselves first! lol

I think the worst part is when you know they are safe watching a particular tv show or movie but the commercials aren't necessarily the same rating.

Channel 10 here in Oz drives me insane, during the Simpsons at 6 pm they start plugging the anti smoking campaigns.
So sick of trying to edit ads!

I guess 9 is too young for Family Guy and South Park. I have seen some of those which were a bit much.

My 9 yr old begs me to let him watch Famly Guy and South Park- but there's no way- that would get me the worst parent of the year award- I couldnt live with that lol

His Dad lets him watch them at his house :slap: well, sometimes...if they are tame episodes....not that any South park episodes are real tame -lol- I've never watched Family Guy.

Wait, you're upset about anti-smoking ads? LOL That's too funny, narla.

The ads I'm talking about are usually about movies w/nasty scenes that aren't for children, or upcoming tv shows that aren't for children.

LOL, you're killing me, narla.

LOL- those ones drive me insane too! DS saw the ad for NCIS once and had nightmares that night! geez walked out of room for like 2 secs

No really about the stupid smoking ads, first time DS saw one he started crying!
I don't smoke in front of him ever since then- it worries him that I am going to die-
I know I know, I SHOULD give up, it is entirely selfish of me and I hate myself for it, so please don't bash me :hand:

ps- I dont smoke that much..

Oh, please narla, I wouldn't bash you. I used to smoke too.

I do remember the school passing out "before/after smoking" pictures of lungs to my daughter's class when she was young. She stuck hers in a picture frame and made me take it to work!

I can't say that it had any affect on me! :innocent:

LOL

Ya know how they have all those ugly picture on the cigarette packets lately- I've heard people say 'it's just an actor and make up' LOL  and they really believe it- hey who said ignorance isn't bliss!

I know they are deluding themselves but really when was the last time you knew someone that got gangarine (sp) and had to get their leg chopped off from smoking...I've never known anyone to and I've always been around smokers...and does it really harm the unborn baby?- as far as I can tell at worst it reduces their size...I mean have you ever known a baby that had anything wrong with it from their mother smoking while she was pregnant? I haven't..... and mines fine LOL LOL- ooohh I'm in trouble now...
The doc told me the stress of giving up smoking was not as bad for the baby as a few a day....I cut down..

I wonder what Kathy Griffin thinks about smoking and smokers?

LOL trying to get this thread back on track even though I think it's a dead horse now.

i will be so happy in the future then. i can not wait! keeping a eye on what my kids watch is a full time job i swear. out of 300 channels they only have 10 not blocked in the living room and i still have to say "omg what are you watching! that show is now off limits!!!"

You have my complete sympathy, sherri. Our daughter is pretty careful with what she lets her kids watch and I know it's practically a full-time job.

I do believe parents should be careful what their kids watch, in terms of quantity as well as quality. But some unfortunate programs will be encountered anyway.

I have no doubt you have relationships with your children where they feel free discussing anything that confuses or upsets them. In the long run, that's even more important than blocking channels.

Too cool - no commercials

True. But if I end up doing something stupid like paying $.99 for every episode of "Big Brother," I'm going to be REALLY annoyed with myself.

While tobacco is legal you should be able to smoke wherever and whenever that's IMO....the parents I worry about are the ones that smoke marijuana while raising kids....some of these parents cant see faults with this drug and consider it a safe escape from their problems:doh:

I am a trying to be an ex smoker thanks to Chantix. But before everytime I saw an anti smoking ad I wanted one more than ever. Sick I know...

I don't think parents should smoke around their children, that's my opinion.
The adults I know who smoke pot don't do that around their kids, but I know plenty of parents who get sloshed in front of their kids and even with their kids.

Getting high in front of their kids or not, how can those same adults tell their kids not to smoke pot when they themselves smoke it?

Exactly, I do not smoke pot (did in my youth) and dont smoke ciggies either, I do know people who smoke and drink in front of the children and have done all their kids life, one of them left home at 15 and the other smokes and drinks with the adults. I disagree passionately with this, my hubby smokes but is not allowed to in the house, hate the smell and dirty ashtrays plus it discolours walls and curtains, Yuk.

Maybe they don't..LOL...
Parents always have to be careful how they look in front of their kids. Children watch and learn. It's a little weird to be drunk or stoned in front of your kids and then tell them don't do this.
Smoking cigarettes in front of your kids can harm thier health. That has already been proven. If you smoke, you should go outside. I know it is legal and your choice but you don't have to subject your children to the second hand smoke.

It doesn't matter what you tell your kids about drugs- there is always a risk your child will get into them anyway- even the best of kids have ended up dead from drugs.

I agree that there is always a risk that any kid can end up with a drug problem. I don"t think there is a one size fits all profile of kids that are at risk. I think all kids are at risk.
But I disgaree that it doesn't matter what you tell them. I think what you tell them is very important. Doesn't mean they will listen or do what we say. But it is still important to continually guide them in the right direction.
Eventually, what you say will sink in, even if it is when they are adults.
JMHO of course.
