This is very sad to me...she very obviously has severe mental issues and to me it looks as though she is on the fast road back to the way she was last year

She is off her meds in my opinion, the problem with being medicated and not properly monitored is you feel great in control and normal even therefore creating the "I don't need to be medicated I'm good" that we see all the time, and then stopping the medication puts her right back to where she was. It's a very sad vicious circle, I believe while her parents feel they are helping her they are doing more damage then good by denying her disease. Praying for her, she was a great little actress, my kids loved her.

I really hope things work out for her. She sounds horrid in her tweets but people need to realize what a departure her personality has taken from her pre illness self. This is not an ugly soul. This is a very sick hurt confused soul.

From my personal life experience, I know that just because someone is mentally ill and makes a claim of abuse, does not mean they are delusional about the abuse. And just because there's strenuous disbelief to boot, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

My mother was mentally ill, and often spoke of abuse at the hands of a family member when she was young. When I was quite young, I'd over-hear comments about how it was all due to her illness, lots of scoffing etc. -- and all the while, that same person was abusing ME. So I believed her... but never said so, out of fear and shame.. and a lot of fear people would talk about ME like that....

Sometimes mental illness also loosens those inhibitions that make people keep their darkest and most shameful secrets, too. Just sayin'.

Whatever the case, I fervently wish future peace of mind and happiness for this talented, sick young woman whom my daughter so admired in her younger years.

The things she said didn't strike me as things an actually schizophrenic person says, but rather someone trying to sound crazy. But once she got in criminal trouble, was hospitalized and her parents got a conservatorship, I believed she had severe mental illness. It's extremely sad. When I read her Twitter, her grammar is bizarre and her thoughts jump from one place to another. If you've ever heard a bright schizophrenic person speak, many of them sound quite intelligent, but if you really listen, their sentences are changing halfway through to connect to a delusional thought. But I saw the video of her at LAX and while she was definitely acting weird, she was responding in a 'normal' way. She was answering the questions logically, though strangely, and her thoughts were largely connected. Her grammar was fine. Does anyone have experience with people who present in this manner? Is it usually severe schizophrenia? I just can't really think of others who presented similarly, even though so many people in the spotlight have sadly had issues with severe mental illness and/or self-medicating.

She was definitely acting weird, but she was answering the questions in a way that at least made sense - she wasn't incoherent like she is in print.

I saw the video of her dancing - obviously very odd. But I guess what I'm saying is, we have all encountered people with severe mental health issues, whether we know it or not. But how often is someone dancing around a store? I see people walking around talking to themselves pretty often, or in obvious disarray. I've seen people with obvious substance abuse issues passing out. I've seen people with paranoia rant angrily and refuse to obey authority. But I've never seen someone act like Amanda - apparently you have met people who behave similarly, so maybe the bipolar + psychosis is right. I realize many of them end up hospitalized, but I've seen people who were taken away on a psych hold and their behavior was always messed up but less...random...

She may very well be utterly delusional and I don't mean to argue the point. But things are not always what they seem, nor as simple as they look. For example, my mum used to think her former abuser was prowling and peeping around our house, hiding in our ceiling, or had planted listening devices etc. Which would seem, as it does in Amanda's case, to indicate a large dose of paranoid delusion behind claims of abuse.

BUT -- her abuser WAS a voyeur. He really was. He used to watch me through the bathroom keyhole, I recall physically *recoiling* looking out of it to see if he was lurking out there (I could hear him) only to see his EYE there. And I remember him laughing... Just one among many 'memorable' moments with this man -- which all support my mother's supposed 'delusions' about his abuse.

*Sometimes* it does happen that just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they were never out to get you.
