Actually I thought I heard them say they saw the one with the black cap first and it wasn't until later they put together the video and started to suspect white cap. I could be totally wrong about that though!

I think it was the opposite. Suspect 2 first because they saw the video of him leaving the backpack.

LE would have all that info, including code name or nickname, but, the perps could have been using disposable, paid in cash phones and trashed them. Otherwise LE would have been tracking them right to their front door.

Yes, they could certainly have code names and burner phone numbers from traffic near the site. I don't think they could possibly connect it to these two individuals in the pictures, though, unless they know something they're not revealing. If they were actually able to connect from a tweet to a specific picture that resembled one of the two, that would be a pretty amazing feat of investigation if these are real perps. If they're innocents who didn't cover their tracks, maybe.

My youngest wears a lot of Fox brand and also has a backpack by that brand too.

I don't know if it's because I bought the things here that made them so expensive (HI) but they weren't cheap.

If IIRC they are popular with motorcross fans?ETA: They're big here because of surfing.

Motocross fans, BMXers, skateboarders and snowboarders. The young extreme sports crowd.

Try http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/wanted_terrorists/daniel-andreas-san-diego That's San Diego's FBI wanted poster. It has another shot of his face.

He is older than most of us are thinking the suspects are, but he could certainly be disguised by wearing younger looking clothes, maybe hair dye.

It says this guy worked as a computer network specialist, surely he wouldn't use social media for this act? Code, encoded, or not?

Interesting about the biothechnology and nutritional targets though. That could fit.

Hmmm, but still sport related.

If LE could use social media to connect the two, then they must know their names or aliases. If they were doing it using messages or tweets from near the site, then they know what phones they were using.

I think this is another example of a reporter with an overactive imagination and/or lack of understanding of how social media and cell phones work.

Somebody linked to a site that explained it better than me,and its a real thing. My guess is they weren't using cell phones tied to them.

These guys seem pretty brand conscious. Build el-cheapo bombs and wear designer stuff??

Lol. Too funny.

I'm now wondering if the hats were a part of whatever on earth their "message" is.

Wow someone will recognize him in that picture for sure!

That one is very clear, he still has a distinctive "bend" too.

Photo number 8 here --- the bag is kind of light greenish/gray, like the bag in earlier photos we saw sitting against the metal fencing by the finish line.

No backpack.

And at the corner of Fairfield. Looks like he might be heading down Fairfield off of Boylston?

This is after the bombs had gone off. If you look, there is a larger picture with both suspects in it.

Those doors behind him look like the Anthropologie store at the corner of Fairfield and Boylston too. Google maps says: 799 Boylston Street in Boston, Massachusetts

Anyone know why the picture has another square in yellow? Is there something significant?

  • #1,015
Wow,he cut it pretty close didn't he?!! Where did you find that? Note no backpack!

BBM: Exactly my thought, hmom. Maybe that is part of the thrill?

any one remember this guy? Jonathan James? http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/07/hacker/ IIRC the members of his hacker group made revenge threats mentioning either Boston in general, or the marathon in specific. I wonder if the FBI is investigating them?

  • #1,017
I'm not convinced the guy in the yellow square is the 1st suspect. I think he would have gone the other way. I don't think he'd have made it back that far in only 12 seconds. He wouldn't have risked being that close to the blast. Jmo

Perp 1 and Perp 2

I don't know about the yellow square for sure being Perp 1, don't know if it was released that way or what.

I'm pretty sure that isn't the other suspect.

I wonder was traffic allowed on Fairfield? Does anyone know if driving was restricted on that road during the marathon? Just curious because trying to figure out how long he would have had to walk ... just curious.
