Very good point. How could one guy carry not one, but two pressure cookers without anybody noticing? Doesn't that suggest at least two people were involved?
Maybe, but perhaps not.

He/She might just be a sicko who wanted entertainment (rather than doing it for a political reason). Maybe he/she lives nearby and took 2 quick walks to place the bombs, then watched from a window.

:(

Kind of left center you see here an emergency worker cradling the little boy that is seen later in a maroon football jersey being pushed in a wheel chair. So he was also right in the center of bomb #1.

I was literally just about to post the same thing! We all have our eagle eyes on tonight.

I understand they had bomb-sniffing dogs go through the area that day. So they must have, IMHO, placed it there during the hours or even minutes just prior to the end of the race.

IF we think about it, the timing was to ignite after the front runners came in, and the larger portion of the participants were due to cross the finish line. At least that's my understanding from news accounts ;though I must admit I haven't watched all programming on this tragedy, meaning not all news stations.

Oh! Your post made me realise something!

The FBI have said the bombs had kitchen/egg timer devices attached. This must be because they have some kind of proof. Most of those timers go for an hour.

This means it's likely the bombs were placed an hour or less before they blew up.

In this pic- Jeff must be to the right of Carlos- behind Carlos to the left- you see a navy cap with a red B ( that I think is the little boy with white coat on in the 33 min before picture that is by Krystal and her friend) Looks like someone is holding him

ETA: there are smaller pressure cookers- they come in 4 quart... has anyone seen anything about what size these were?

I have an 8 quart pressure cooker and it will easily fit in a backpack.

Two things : 1- definitely domestic, no claim of responsibility which is a textbook requirement for the international variety. 2- I think it's misguided to search images of possible suspects close to the time of the event occurred. This/these is/are cowards (OKC, Atlanta Olympic types) interested in inflicting damage, but not in notoriety. International perps don't fear US law enforcement, this perp does. If the hypothesis is that the timers were set at 1 hour, that's how far back in the timeline the image search needs go.

I think I read 6 litres but I can't find a source.

Edited to say: it's right here in a title. oops! There are some mildly graphic photos if you scroll down.

I missed that they had determined the method of detonation.

I thought they had found part of a circuit board.

Does anyone have a link to the use of timer/egg timers?

I think the new digital timers can be set for longer than an hour.

I only read about it earlier today.

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/17/us/officials-investigate-boston-explosions.html?pagewanted=all

The pressure cookers were filled with nails, ball bearings and black powder, and the devices were triggered by “kitchen-type” egg timers, one official said.

It's an interesting article, definitely worth reading. It also mentions facial recognition software.

That's what I'm imagining in my head too.

I think someone said said earlier that it was an Inox? Here's a 6 litre model:
Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Inox Pressure Cooker With Side Grips (22cm), 6.0 Litre: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

It could have been 20 years old. Perhaps they got them from a thrift store (which might cut down their chances of being caught on CCTV).

I just read further in the article I linked above.

A law enforcement official said that the pressure cooker in Boston “was badly damaged,” but that enough of it remained intact to identify it.

One brand of pressure cooker with “6L” on the bottom is made by the Spanish company Fagor

If there was an Inox and a Fagor I'm guessing they were from thrift shops.

Inox is not a brand. It means "stainless steel". See my earlier post on that. The brand of pressure cooker shown in photos is Fagor. Prob the most common pressure cooker in America.

I think that is just a helper wearing their hat backwards.

Aah sorry! I don't own one, so I have no idea about brands.

I'm must more a slow cooker girl ;) . Take things slow, not too much pressure ...

Edited:

Sorry, I quoted before you edited. If it's a common brand it's very unlikely that the brand name is going to help identify who bought it.

imo someone would remember a person buying two of these:
