Keep in mind the Saudi kid is here on a student visa, we can assume he will be going home to live out his life once he graduates. The fact his name was used here in the states won't matter once he returns home to Saudi so this won't cast suspicion on him for the rest of his life.

True, but the intertubes are forever, and international. And he still has to walk the streets every day until he returns home. I am sure university students will be more supportive, but still, it just takes one disgruntled guy on the street to pick a fight. And not to mention just the countless, random dirty looks he may have to put up with from now on.

BBM
They yell "Allah Akbar" in the middle of shootouts, after blowing up tanks and choppers, and when the guy next to them gets his head blown off.

Oh I know they use it frequently after successful strikes (giving God credit) I just don't think that presumably innocent Saudi kid would have said that right after the bombing (and if he DID say Allahu akbar I would assume he was the bomber too).

Authorities investigating the Boston Marathon blasts that killed three and injured more than 175 believe the two bombs were assembled from household pressure cookers, a crude but effective explosive that has been thwarted before in U.S. terror plots.

Investigators are exploring whether the bombs were assembled not far from the scene of Monday's horrific explosions since transporting such improvised devices over any significant distance could trigger a premature detonation, according to a law-enforcement official with knowledge of the matter.

Nobody's suggesting he said Allahu Akbar. Arabs do use the word Allah in other contexts than that.

The only thing I worry about is people who could possibly be suffering from situational depression (brought on by the bombing) finding out they're seen as suspects and then feeling worse. I would hate for it to be seen as online bullying. But it's a balancing act - we all want to know who did this, and at times like this it's natural to be curious and to look for answers.

Then there's the whole innocent until proven guilty thing.

Pointing out observations in a photograph is not an implication or accusation of guilt. It's an observation, to be followed up by someone who has the authority to make an accusation.

You're right it's a "balancing act"; it requires discretion. At times like these it's also natural to want to be kind and caring toward our fellow people, but being overly cautious about hurting feelings is another form of imbalance. I'd hate to think important details aren't uncovered because the person with insight is too busy worrying about hurt-feeling scenarios they've concocted in their minds.

Should we be posting the name of the Chinese student? The family has asked for it not to be released.

No we shouldnt be. Just alert on any posts where you see it and the mods will edit it out.

I saw another point made on this last night. Consider the fact that when the first runners are crossing the finish line, the clientele watching are probably different than those when the blast occurred. Usually you have VIP's/corporate/press folks watching when the first runners are coming through and it's much more crowded (and monitored). 2.5 hours later, it's families cheering their loved ones across the finish line, perhaps not as condensed so one can move more freely.

Crazy thought.

No one would think a thing about someone carrying a couple of pots in. Probably think it was a vendor bringing in ingredients, or if there are people sitting on porches at apartment buildings, someone bringing food to a party. So I doubt seeing someone carrying a couple of heavy back packs (could think it was full of beer) to a party wouldn't seem suspicious to anyone, including LE.

Wonder how many people saw something so innocent looking and didn't think a thing of it, and may not think to call it in. I hope they do call every little thing in. Of course, that is thinking that the bombs were placed there after the dog sweep.

I am not understanding. If most newspapers have printed it why can it not be repeated.

You mean in spite of the family stating over and over that they dont want it out there? Because we are a victim friendly site. I will ask the mods to weigh in.

Ditto. I didn't mean to make you feel bad. Sorry holly. I just know that the family begged for her name not to be published. It's not your fault you didn't know that.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...phs-Is-second-bomb-just-seconds-exploded.html

When looking at pictures should a back pack be looked for or a white plastic bag with a brown paper bag inside, as the picture with the caption,

Bomb? Photos sent to 7News by a viewer show a bag next to a mailbox by the barricade along the marathon route just before the explosion that left three dead at Boston Marathon on Monday

shows? jmo

This is the last bit of media I have read regarding the third victim:

8:06 AM
State-Run Chinese Newspaper Names Third Victim

The Associated Press reports:
The Shenyang Evening News said on its official Twitter-like microblog account that the victim's name is 🤬🤬🤬. An editor at the newspaper said that 🤬🤬🤬 father confirmed his daughter's death when reporters visited the family home. The editor declined to give his name because he was not authorized to speak to foreign media.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry and Consulate General in New York are not releasing the victim's name at the request of the family. But on Tuesday, Boston media quoted a Chinese Consulate General official as saying Chinese national 🤬🤬🤬 was missing in the wake of Monday's bombings that killed three and wounded more than 170 people.
As we reported earlier, Boston University says the third fatality was identified as a BU graduate student, and the Chinese Consulate in New York confirmed the victim was a Chinese national.

I bet this sicko (s), stood across the street to watch his dirty deed and got pleasure in the scene. Who has money to waste on such stuff?............had to be test bombs also, before this. Did we ever hear much about the one that went off at the library?
I sure pray finger prints etc evidence is all over the 2 that failed to go off!

I had read earlier that the womans father had confirmed her name and that she was the 3rd victim to a reporter who had visited their family home. Would this not make it ok to state her name on here?
I'd have to find the link again to the article.

According to officials at yesterday's presser, only two bombs - the ones that exploded at the Marathon - were found. The fire at JFK was said to be unrelated.
