Well, while they figure it out, I'm gonna play the Where's a guy in a Grey Hoodie and white backwards hat game.

Lots of white hats, you would have to pick one with lots and lots, lol.

One grey hoodie guy, but he has no black jacket on.

These are seriously bad leaks. It cannot be good to be releasing that the suspect has been ID'd before (s)he's in custody. Only gives the perp a better chance to run. Someone's in trouble for that. CNN: "...significant blowback from the leaks..."

Now to sort out the difference between identified, arrested, and in custody. Maybe they have him in custody or en route but don't want it said "arrested" because it changes his legal rights.

Maybe they are floating the contradiction/leak to prompt the perp to do something.

But if this is just a mistake it's no good at all.

I see it as a sign that the public is on the edge of their seats about to jump out of their skin!

Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing from security video and an official statement was expected later in the day, a U.S. law enforcement source said on Wednesday.

However, no arrest had been made, three separate U.S. government and law enforcement sources told Reuters.

The whole "dark skinned" or "brown skinned" thing makes me laugh. I post on a somewhat afrocentric website, though I am white.

Many said this ain't no "black" guy - they don't build bombs...they would have shot the place up! LOL!!

I thought that was funny, and probably true.

But those descriptions have somehow turned negative. And IMO anyway, it's not. It is in fact a description of the POI. Not saying in this particular case, I am talking about ANY case.

If someone is black, and they are looking for them in order for the public to be aware of the BOLO they need a description. Black man works best. If it's a white guy, no one is offended when they are described that way.

I don't get that at all!!! For some reason, being called a black person is somehow negative? Only to racists I would suppose?

Anyway, white, brown, black, purple, green or any combination of the above...doesn't matter. If he/she did it, they need to be brought to justice. And getting a good description out that 99% of the General Public understands is essential.

Could be the perp is inside the Brookline hospital and they're evacuating it to make an arrest.

Additional police presence at Brigham/Woman's Hospital in Brookline, evacuating some of the hospital, streets are being blocked off.

my note: probably not much, just another "threat" like we've had for a few days now...but the thought has crossed my mind that the suspect may be in the hospital, and they may be isolating him/her/them with this action.

It's not *calling* someone dark skinned, or brown skinned that is problematic. It's that many of the armchair-investigative pics that circulated around 4chan and reddit overnight had picked out people for seemingly no OTHER reason than they were darker skinned, KWIM?

I am darker complected, and have no problem whatsoever being called brown skinned (by whites; darker latinos and blacks would call me light skinned). It's when folks go combing through pics and ONLY circling the brown skinned folks that it is bothersome.

Oh, and maybe they had backpacks. But then, so did every second person in those crowds! :banghead:

Historically in this country's press, if a white person were sought, no indication of race was given; if a black person were sought, it was given. While it is the exception today rather than the rule, it nevertheless still occurs. Historical context is crucial in understanding the present.

I would think they had the video from L&T back on Monday night. There's plenty of time to view that film to get to this point. They have something important even if they are leaking all kinds of misinformation.
