Something tells me Lou is gonna be running for office.
In case you’ve ever wondered, when you take a psychiatrist to dinner (especially a forensic psychiatrist, like me), he doesn’t leave the office 100 percent. No well-trained psychiatrist can. The “third ear” we develop during training – the one that catches meaningful turns of phrase or attempts to be evasive – can’t be left at the office door entirely.
When I had dinner with Lou and Linda Pelletier and three of their four daughters, Jennifer, Jessica and Julia, a few nights ago in Massachusetts, I wasn’t trying to evaluate them. They aren’t my patients. But I was listening for discordant psychological notes, nonetheless – ones that might tell me I was sitting with people destructive enough to merit permanently losing custody of their teenage daughter Justina.
Seventh, after dinner, the Pelletiers introduced me to their dog, a champion Shiba Inu named The Last Samurai, aka “Sammy.” The dog had been waiting for them in their car. They’d left the window open a crack. Shiba Inu dogs are known for their independence and indomitable nature. No kidding, you wouldn’t own a Shiba if you wanted a lap dog. Trust me, I know. I have a Shiba Inu named Poppy. Or, more accurately, Poppy has me.
Here's one psychiatrist's take on it:

He likes them because they have a stubborn dog:
This is about the little boy who was found dead. The DCF lost him months ago. It was proven that the caseworker didn't make monthly visits but falsified documents stating she did. If they would lie about that, why wouldn't they lie to cover their mistakes?

You do realize that when you say "they are being used for research and experimentation!" What this really, in actuality means is that foster kids, wards of the state, etc, are to be given the same access to drug trials and experimental treatments (which, you know, have protocols you can read about) that the rest of us have. That they are not to be denied possible treatments simply because of family situation.
No, I don't agree with that statement. I doubt that most parents would allow for their child to be used in this way.
These caseworkers were fired.
Apples and oranges. Is Ma DCF doing enough? Or not doing enough? According to the audit, MA DCFs problems involve privacy issues (someone let Lou know) and understaffing and funding (ie - not enough caseworkers to adequately care for all those in need). You can't simultaneously charge MA DCF with not doing enough for those in need AND doing too much.

yes, it does need to be backed up. are you of the opinion that evidence is not required for people to make informed decisions?
im not sure who you think is saying we should just blindly trust the government, it certainly isnt me. this case has been in court many times, hopefully that issue was raised, that would be the appropriate venue for it.
its entirely possible that she has not received any substantial education since she was hospitalized, depending on the specific circumstances of her situation. but since BCH has many long term patients and they have well established policies regarding education, and they are well aware it is a requirement and make it a focal point, i would assume they made an honest effort to do so in this case.
so yes, before i am going to believe this claim i would need to see some of the evidence to support it. i guess im just crazy like that...
Father seems convinced BCH used their child for research. While it might sound like a conspiracy theory, BCH policy is clear on that wards of the state may be used for research. So how far fetched is this conspiracy theory?
But look at all those "likes" on Facebook!!!
Let's send in the troops and have another rescue! Oh, wait. The government is the enemy.
At some point it moves into the category of absurdity and that's where this case has squarely landed.

It wasn't a claim, it was an opinion based on how the situation appears to the poster. Had it been stated as fact, the poster would have indeed needed to support those statements of fact. The family courts are shrouded in secrecy, and IMO if the courts were open to the public, there wouldn't be so many of these issues. The bottom line for me is that I can't see that this girl was in any imminent danger, I mean they just wanted to take her to another hospital. What kind of life-threatening risk is that. And that is what is supposed to be required before you take the rights of a parent to raised their own child. It's not supposed to be about the state simply disagreeing with your decisions. CPS could have monitored the situation while she was at home with her parents. If any of this sounds stupid, I'm posting on my lunch break, so I'm not proof reading.
