Thank you John Perry, for your service!

STOCKTON, Calif. (CBS) - The father of a slain Northern California soldier said his family was booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home from Afghanistan, CBS Sacramento station KOVR-TV reports.

Sgt. John Perry was killed on Saturday in Afghanistan by a suicide bomber.

From Tulessa's OP link:

[Mr. Perry] also called out recent presidential campaign rhetoric, including President-elect Donald Trump’s remarks about the Khan family.

“One example would be Donald Trump speaking badly about a Gold Star family, who I now am, and it really bothers me, but it also bothers me that people don’t want to talk about the terrorism that killed my kid,” he said.

that is unfortunate but i highly doubt anyone was booing because they knew it was the family of a deceased soldier, and so far there is nothing other than speculation to suggest that they were.

"Perry said his son’s death comes comes at a time military service is facing disrespect. He said his family was even booed on the flight to bring his son’s body home over a delay.

“To hear the reaction of the flight being delayed because of a Gold Star family and the first class cabin booing, that was really upsetting, and it made us cry some more,” he said.

Perry said his son’s death also underscores why the American flag is sacred for service members, not just a symbol for protest."

I find that whole story impossible to believe. If someone booed, there would have been others who would have responded another way,

He said it was the First Class cabin. No one spoke up. Hm

I feel when it turned political is when the booing started.
But just moo

The father did not make the statement about Trump or terrorism on the plane, he said it to the reporter.

Perry said they weren’t able to thank that pilot because of the rush, but that the pilot chose to sit there and wait for the Gold Star family.

“We might have missed our son’s arrival [at Dover] if we had missed that flight,” he said.

American Airlines was never the problem — it was the disrespectful attitude of some of the passengers on the flight to Phoenix, Perry said.

The Gold Star father said that regardless of whether the passengers knew the reason for the family’s urgency, they should have been more tolerant.

I was on a flight once with a deceased soldier and everyone was in complete silence except one guy who bolted for the door.It was so sad and a reminder how lucky we are to go about our everyday business. This was back during the war in Iraq and we were flying a lot and always hundreds of soldiers returning in the airport.I always took the time to tell them thank you and shake their hand or give them candy.
RIP Sir and thank you.

A time of disrespect for the military? I'm sorry for what he and his family and especially son have been through but support for the military is at a level not seen since WWII.

There is definitely something off about this story.

Yes, there would have been a scene. I wonder if anyone got video?

On an American Airlines flight this week, Stewart Perry told The Record that the flight crew instructed passengers to remain in their seats while a “special military family” were allowed to exit first. The flight attendant did not mention that it was a Gold Star family claiming their son’s remains. Stewart Perry told The Record that as the family passed first-class, passengers booed and complained, saying “This is just baloney,” and “I paid for first-class for this?”

RIP Staff Sgt. John Perry. Thank you for your sacrifice.

The soldier was NOT on the plane, the family was going to meet his remains. I would think most people on the flight had no clue who he was and why they were waiting..... People are in a rush, and have connections to make also, and the flight was already late.. I don't think it was a statement against the military, or the situation itself. And it shouldn't be made out to be that way. And yes, people today are rude and inconsiderate, but this is just another 'out of context' situation being thrown out there and then politics added........ Sad.

That's what I think too. Some impatient, distracted, busy (trying to put this nicely) passengers might not have paid attention and reacted like jerks (to put it nicely).

I've seen people roll their eyes and groan while having to wait for passengers who need assistance.

Its just silly how people overreact and catastrophise everything . The media is mostly to blame.
Nobody on this plane was booing the military. They were booing being delayed!
Funny times we live in.

The first class passengers on American Airlines should be ashamed of themselves for the way they treated the Gold Star family of a bona fide hero. I doubt a single one of these passengers voted for Donald Trump!

American Airlines passengers booed loudly when informed their flight would be delayed so it could meet the remains of Sgt. John Perry. The quick actions of Perry and several others stopped a suicide bomber from attacking a charity 5K run to benefit disabled veterans on Bagram Airfield last Saturday, CBS News reports.

“To hear the reaction of the flight being delayed because of a Gold Star family and the first class cabin booing, that was really upsetting, and it made us cry some more,” Sgt. John Perry’s father, Stewart Perry, said. “Most importantly, I want people to know about the heroic thing that my son did.

Stewart Perry is a Marine Corps veteran. He, along with his wife, Kathy, and daughter, Anita, were flying from California to Philadelphia with a transfer in Phoenix, on Monday. Once the plane landed in Philadelphia, the Gold Star family went to Dover Air Force Base to receive the remains of their heroic son.

That is what I thought, they were booing the delay. They still should not have done it.

I feel we should give the first class seats to the soldiers returning. On our flights on one leg one of us would have first class(or business)and one time I wanted to give my seat to a soldier who was on crutches sitting in coach and my partner had a fit.
