Southfield family kicked off American Airlines flight after passengers complain about body odor

Adler family: 'There's no body odor that we have. There's nothing wrong with us'

MIAMI - A Southfield family trying to return home from vacation in Miami was kicked off a flight Wednesday after other passengers complained about their body odor, according to WPLG.

Yossi and Jennie Adler and their 19-month-old daughter were on an American Airlines flight back to Detroit on Wednesday night when they said they were escorted off the plane...

Detroit Family Kicked Off Flight From Miami Over Alleged Body Odor

Several passengers complained.

...American Airlines sent a statement to Local 10 on Wednesday night acknowledging the reason for their removal.

"Mr. Adler and his wife were removed from the flight when several passengers complained about their body odor," the statement said. "They have been booked into a hotel for the night and given meal vouchers. They have been rebooked on a flight Thursday." ...

The family told WPLG via text message that they were on a flight back to Detroit on Thursday morning -- but not before making sure they wouldn't have the same problem.

"We stopped several people in the airport and, it's embarrassing, but we asked them, 'Do you think we smell? Because we just got kicked off a plane for smelling," Jennie Adler told WPLG.

Yossi Adler said he wants to know the real reason his family was booted from the plane.

"I want them to own up to what really happened and to tell me the truth," he said. "What was it?

"There's no body odor that we have. There's nothing wrong with us."

My late father used to have a saying that might fit here:
"A fox never smells his own hole."

The family should be back in Detroit shortly (or have already arrived). I will tune in to WDIV news at noon to see if the family is interviewed upon their return.

ETA: American Airlines flight from Miami arrived DTW at 10:03.

I don't think several would complain about the same thing if it's not true.

Nothing will make me gag any quicker than smelling human body odor and I don't have a weak stomach normally. I find that particular odor so repugnant.

I've even had to leave a check out line due to someone who has such strong body odor that was in close proximity to me.

Imo

And hopefully it wouldn't particularly matter whether it actually was body odor or was instead perfume, incense, etc. Strong smells are often objectionable to others, which to me makes it rude to exude them when out in public. And even moreso in an enclosed space like an airplane. I'm not generally bothered by smelling body odor but I sure would be in a 'stale air environment' like a plane. And I strongly dislike smelling perfume, incense, etc even out in a less-enclosed space than a plane...

Clothing that hasn't been washed regularly can have repulsive odors, as well.

Ughh so true. I can stand the smell of most anything other than replusive musky body odor. Even the homeless find ways to wash up.

I dont think the smell they were emitting was perfumes but was replusive body odors.

I havent heard of anyone being taken off a flight due to wearing some type of perfume.

If i got kicked off of a flight for body odor, the last thing I'd be doing is calling media.

American Airlines kicks Southfield family off plane for body odor

...A statement from American Airlines officials to the Free Press stated, "The Adler family were asked to deplane last night after several passengers, along with our crew members, complained about their body odor. The family were provided hotel accommodations and meals, and rebooked on a flight to Detroit today."...

According to this statement from AA, crew members also noticed the body odor.

Meet my seat mate from Toronto to Halifax. Farted the whole way. Room-clearing farts.

None of us complained. We people in the back took turns taking responsibility and apologizing for the farts when people in the front looked back at us with their noses plugged. (They couldn’t see the dog by my seat mates feet.)

Wow, all I can say is if it was that bad it must’ve been really really bad. I’m like you Oceanblueeyes, I can’t take the smell of BO, makes me gag.

I think it's best to spray everybody with a so called "getaway nasty smells-spray" before they are boarding. Hahahaha. Or at least have a bottle on board.

We had to resort to toothpaste under our noses, due to the limit on liquids.
Wasn't thinking of restrictions, every man, woman, and child for themselves I guess.. Toothpaste?.. Ya desperate times.. desperate measures..

Also, odd fact.. I can't smell.. but when bad odor is around however, the musty air is as gross.. not sure if the senses heighten when one goes..

There was a desperate search for Vick’s vapo-rub amongst us commoners in the back seats, but to no avail.

I think they switched our oxygen off at some point in coach while first and business class were given free wine.
