Family wants to keep life support for girl brain dead after tonsil surgery #2

The following is an expression My Opinion, not the start of an argument with anyone:

Although not surprised, I am dismayed at this latest turn. Prolonging this circus does not ensure any better outcome for Jahi; rather, it suggests the contrary. What we have is another delay, a postponement of the inevitable, and I suspect a re-run of this past weekend's events.

I have no more confidence in the family's declarations today than I have for several days. If/when the hospital releases a statement saying it has agreed to the transfer with all of the previous terms met, I'll think again.

My comments are in blue

Respectfully, I was posing logistical questions that I had. It is a huge undertaking to move across country and acclimate your other children to a new environment, schools, friends. Many of us who have moved during childhood know this to be true. It may not be of my concern nor none of my business. However, having made it my life's work to care for others, I have learned to look at the bigger picture. I am sorry you misread the intention of my post and responded as you did. Of course none of this is my business or concern. I hope my response to your post is received in the grain for which it is intended. JMO

".... is showing signs of movement and that an unnamed pediatrician has visited her and claims she is not dead...."
Does anyone know who this unnamed pediatrician is ?

Sad case. Reminds me of a similar one many years ago with a young lady named Karen or Anne Quinlan. This lady stayed alive for many years in a vegetative state --- but it was after she was disconnected from a ventilator ; I think.
All they are doing now is making it worse with unnamed pediatricians and an Uncle feeding into the mother's wishful thinking. What if everyone did this when they just didn't want to let go. Poor child needs to go in peace already. No oxygen is getting to her brain, she's just gone.

Is the doctor that they found willing to do the necessary surgery on her so that they can transfer her to the facility?

This surgury is NOT complicated..It can be done at bedside..So please..given her condition...NOT a problem whatsoever!!!

For all we know, the "doctor" who will accompany Jahi's body on the flight to NY is Dr Byrne, who doesn't believe in brain death.

Brain death does not denote BODY death...and not sure just who could claim to KNOW just what is actually going on with her Soul..Her Spirit.....Her bodily tissues are right now being fed by Ventilator..Tissues being perfused...MANY MANY tissue that can be utilized down the road.....

If It's a taxpayer thing, it's every working americans concern. jmo

TAX payers are NOT paying for any of this....Course bashings and demonizings of family reaching out for Support has been bashed too.....:banghead:

LOL My tax dollars go to a helluva lot of places that I don't want to see it go.

IMO this is a compassion issue and there are plenty of us who have contributed to the tax system our whole life who don't mind our tax dollars going to fund this.

Feel safe...NO taxpayer dollars are paying for this...:banghead:

Oh, Zuri, so well said.

Again, I ask, what would Jahi want?

She was a 13 year old kid...She was afraid..like most kids...What does any child think??? No one knows..BUT she likely wants to pay it foreward whoatever happens IMO :seeya:

If taxpayers are paying it, it's expensive and I would rather see taxpayer dollars going into children who are alive or can recover. I have no issue with taxpayers paying for children and adults who will live or have a decent quality of life, but asking the taxpayers to pay for years of this is ridiculous. There are not unlimited funds.

And do you have some sort of link to prove that??? She would never have been accepted as a surgical patient without Insurance to begin with..<modsnip>

Transfer to alternative HC facility will be on the Family...BUT tend to believe this Family has a Cival Suit...coming down the road..BUT priority..<modsnip>

If there is proof Jahi is still alive, why haven't news stations received this proof so that we can all witness what the parents are telling us?

I know it sounds morbid, but release it. It will reinstate my faith to the upmost. It will reverse all my thoughts on science and medicine.
However, it is an eerie and morbid thing to do because . . . well, Jahi would be the first to do this. To perform this miracle.

Also, with the news, this was never a rush to disconnect this child. They are now going on three weeks of her being in this condition. I read that the longest someone has been in Jahi's condition was 107 days, to bring a baby to term, and then the mother passed. That was at an incredible hospital, done under extreme care of doctors and nurses for 24-7.

Will Jahi have this care in NY? And how long can poor Jahi's body really last?

From personal experience I know that she cannot be on a vent indefinitely. And there can be many complications while on a vent. And a feeding tube. OMGosh. This is not living. It is like having a blow up doll that is only existing because you are filling it up with air. Her soul and essence is in Heaven. jmo

I guess this case is too personal for me. My father was in a presistive vegatative state following an emergency bypass......We were prepared that he would not make it, he did and that to me was all that mattered at first..until you hear things like, if his heart stops beating we will have to rip open his chest to massage his heart, the sound of him being suctioned, the sight if his body broke my heart, he wieghed 115 lbs.....They sit him in a chair and tied him to prevent him from falling, I could go on.....But the worst thing for me was not knowing if he could hear us and our pleas to wake up, then I would think what an awful thing if he can and isnt able to let us know..I loved my daddy beyond all, and I didnt want him to suffer anymore, he lost everything even his dignity, but I give him my love and respect and let him go.....I sure these parents love this child and think they are doing whats right, but I would never do that again to anyone I love and I pray my family loves me enough to do the same.

Jahi is gone. IMO the expense is not to try to bring her back to life but now her family is in a mental health crisis. I see it this way, if any tax dollars are used for this situation, it is to help the family of Jahi to get through this.

Perhaps some of you are able to have a child or grandchild pass away and then are able to get over it and get on with your lives immediately afterwards.

If it were me, I'd probably still be in bed in the same clothes I was in when I took her to the hospital for the surgery. I'd be lucky to be able to put a sentence together.

I'm not saying that it's all ok and that they should have Jahi on a ventilator forever. I am glad that the courts are letting the mother present whatever evidence they have and hopefully someone can steer the family towards some counselling, prayer, meditation or whatever it takes so that they can finally come to terms with the inevitable.

Aren't they getting donations? Last I looked, a few days ago, they had received $30K

I am thinking that there is no hospital in ny that will take a dead body that insurance will no long cover. jmo

And if there was one, her California insurance company might not be in New York.

Interesting wording, "Claims she is not dead". Claims she is not dead or claims she is not brain dead. Did the doctor say "Yes, her heart is still beating" or did the doctor find signs that suggested she was not brain dead?

If it's the latter, why hasn't he come forward and presented his findings? Why are we hearing hearsay from the family rather than statements from this mystery doctor?

I think the family believes her soul is still right in her body as it is reacting to her mother's touch.

I'm not sure. A feeding tube has nothing to do with a colostomy bag does it?

I wonder how much Grillo ascribes to Byrne's philosophies and if his rulings show a pattern which would demonstrate his personal bias.

Oh sorry. What is all this malpractice talk about on this thread? ty

I did not say they blamed the surgeon specifically.
I think her Post-Op care qualifies as malpractice. The nurses told the family the amount of bleeding was "normal". Someone screwed up badly- I think it was the nursing staff (and before K-Z gets on my case- I worked for 13 years in nursing homes, hospitals, and home health)!
This is my opinion based on everything I have read and heard about this case based on my medical knowledge, and will remain so until details are released in a malpractice suit/medical investigation of this hospital).

NOPE.. She's a newly turned 13 year old....Why would Colostomy be necessary?..IF convenience is the plan..Then ALL old/any folks would have "The Bag" just for convenience....Aint going to happen..from my experience..Colostomyy is ONLY done when Rectum Cancer or Bowel Cancer is part of the equastions.....
