There have been other cases where brain dead persons were kept on ventillators for as long as possible. As far as I know nobody lost their license over it.
I am not sure why this case would be any different.

I think what makes this case different is the family and lawyer's claims they are going to give her treatment aimed at recovery. Any licensed medical professional that participates in that delusion has very questionable motives and is probably not adhering to standards of care and damaging the integrity of the profession. I wouldn't be so bothered if they accepted she is dead and wanted to care for her body until it gives out. Still think that's a bit morbid but at least it doesn't fly in the face of reality.

Shame, SHAME on this family for forcing the other children in this family to be exposed to that horror. My God, have a little respect for your CHILD, and let her decently go to her rest.

Sue anyone you want later, just don't do this to the remains of that bubbly, beautiful girl, and don't do this to her siblings!

And that is what happened with the sad case of a 2 year old child who was brain dead after a near-drowning. After they refused to turn off the ventilator and petitioned the court, the hospital allowed the family to take the child home to die at home. The hospital's response was kind, respectful, and very considerate, while describing the legal issues. The indicent seemed to be handled with tact and delicacy.

All I can say is OMG!

Upon reading that Dr. Fleiss said that attempting to feed her could result in "deleterious" consequences (paraphrasing). Her bowels do not appear to be functioning.

You know what I really, really hope is happening? that maybe, just maybe, momma is sitting next to her deceased daughter, holding her hand and singing to her, preparing to finally let go. Not allowing any more invasions to her little and dead body. I am a romantic.

Not only are her bowels not functioning (as in lack of bowel sounds) the lining of her bowel is beginning to slough off. A spontaneous bowel perforation, peritonitis, and sepsis are not far off.

Any feeding tube would probably perforate and only hasten the slow death of her body by sepsis.

So, she is not a 30 year surgical nurse? One of the first articles I read stated she was. One would think such experience would have convinced her daughter by now... it's over.

The grandmother is a licensed vocational nurse that has been certified with IV therapy. For some reason, she is unable to understand that her granddaughter is dead.

What are the laws against abusing a corpse? --force feeding/useless medical procedures that are intrusive to someone who has already been declared dead - when is the line crossed?

Jahi may not make it through the day Mail Online

"Dolan added that she had arrived at a secret facility this morning where she was receiving the best treatment available.
But he said it was touch and go whether she 'would make it'.
'Jahi is in worse shape than we thought,' Dolan said. 'The hospital’s withdrawal of nutrients has caused her to deteriorate more rapidly than we thought. It is just sad. They have starved her.'
Asked whether doctors hired by the family were going to fit a feeding tube, he said that they were assessing the situation right now.
'Because of the amount of damage to her throat she is not doing very well,' he said."

The hospital has starved to death an already dead person? These people are unreal.

Why didnt they do more when she was heavily bleeding? Has anyone speculated on this?

We don't know what they did or did not do. That info has not been released yet.

But I doubt that they ignored the situation. The problem is that if a patient begins to bleed profusely immediately after surgery, it is not always possible to stop the bleeding before it snowballs into cardiac arrest.

Thanks to the family who didn't allow CHO to comment (or was it their own ethical guidelines not to comment on ongoing treatment?), we do not know.

But I seriously, seriously doubt that things went down as the family portrays them --- CHO is a world renowned pediatric surgery center. It is not like they operated on her under a bridge using butter knives.

This Dr reports to the court the changes that were taking place in Jahi... beware it may be difficult for some to read.

That is sickening. The body has been decomposing in the hospital, and now it is probably decomposing more rapidly outside of the hospital. This seems completely insane. What will it take to snap the family to reality?

IMO, if they are doing this, then they are most likely billing medicare, medicaid and private insurance. If they need doctors orders, then those orders have a diagnosis they are using to get insurance to pay for the treatment.

They need thoroughly investigated for their practices and potential billing fraud.

We can hope......

Add to the lies that Jahi is warm. Per the link up thread, even with blankets the best temp they can get is 95 for Jahi.

13 year old Jahi McMath moved to new facility. I’m talking to her family tonight. What would you do if Jahi were your daughter? #JahiMcMath

So much for wanting privacy.

DEVELOPING: The hearing for tomorrow at 1p in Oakland Fed Court has been cancelled because both sides reached an agreement concerning #Jahi

My thoughts exactly. CHO is now able to go back to their mission: providing top notch care for children in the Bay Area.
