I don't mean this to sound offensive but I can actually understand how someone uneducated or medically ignorant could believe that this is proof that Jahi isn't dead.

Having said that, the family would have been advised by the hospital that it is a reflex. If they are still clutching those straws it is because of some other factor (eg denial, desperation etc).

Totally agree. Putting myself in her shoes...I can understand why Jahi's body's reaction is viewed as a hopeful sign to her.

Does anyone have photoshop? It's easy to check metadata in photoshop ... open BR (bridge), click on the METADATA tab, and it should appear in the column about the clip. My computer is a month old and all the software is authentic, so it's very odd that I'm getting such an odd date. Maybe someone else with photoshop can see what they get in terms of "creation date"

Forgot to include the important part ... select the file that you want to check ... so save the file to a folder, find it in the folders in Bridge, then check the metadata.

If the video is tagged as Jan 1, 1904, then the videographer doesn't wants anyone to know the date that the video was made.

Not sure if this has been mentioned - but if someone doesn't set the time and date on the device used to record then it might come up with a wonky date like that. Older P&S cameras and video cameras are notorious for that.

I'm not sure about METADATA from an iPhone photo/video. I could open up Lightroom and see as I've imported some shots from my phone..

ETA: It looks like all the data showing in Lightroom is the date and time I uploaded it, not the actual time I took the photos (I know there was about an hour difference).

Looks like the donations to the funding site have seriously dropped. That have only got about $200 (total) in the past five days. Uncle ain't gonna like that. He's all about getting them dollars up, ya know.

I expect an appearance from him again, with an update of the miracle brain sparking that is going on and a campaign for some new funding for something they claim Jahi needs to stay alive, even though the lawyer isn't charging them, they have gotten almost $60,000 in funding already, the care she is receiving is supposedly free and somehow her insurance is still paying for her care.

Uncle ain't about to fade out of the limelight now. He got his lil taste of fame and you can bet we have not seen the last of him. He had signed up with an agent months before this ever happened so you know he just feels he was destined to be a star.

Well, even the Vatican and the Pope says that there is a possibility of aliens in space, and that even those would be created by God.

I presume the Vatican also believes in spinal reflexes. And brain death.

Yes.
But the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia said in a Jan. 7 statement about the McMath case that nothing in Catholic teaching would contradict the determination of death by the teen's physicians, using "the rigorous application of neurological criteria."

Those criteria can include "a complete lack of blood flow to the brain, the absence of any electrical activity of the brain, the absence of cranial nerve response and the ability of the patient to breathe on her own," the statement said.

If the facts in the McMath case are being accurately reported in the media, the center's statement said, the determination of death has been made "by physicians repeatedly and rigorously applying the neurological criteria" and confirmed by an independent, court-appointed pediatric neurologist from Stanford University.

"If this is accurate, at this point there would be no moral obligation for a hospital or physician to perform any procedure on a corpse such as placing a feeding tube or trying to stabilize the bodily functions that are kept working using mechanical means," it added.

[JM] video claims to show her feet move

... the video had been removed ... without explanation, ... However, the video still appeared on YouTube. ...

... Dr. [NES], a neurologist and chief medical officer ... said spontaneous movements aren't rare in brain-dead patients, and can be seen in 50 percent or more of such patients. ... could be spinally mediated reflexes or due to irritable nerves or muscle membranes reacting to the application of cold. ... not an indication that she is alive ...

"She's brain-dead ... has no thought ... no ability to control or interact with anything in her environment," ... "She's completely dependent on machines and forever will be."

It's like when you put your hand on something hot. You don't have to think about taking it away. It's a spinal reflex to remove your hand from the heat. If you had to think of it then your hand would be there longer and get burnt longer. It requires no brain processes but just up to spinal cord and back. I don't understand how a family would not seek advice on reflexes like that instead of just assuming they know everything? There are many reflexes doctors look for in upper motor neuron lesions that aren't present in normal individuals. I just don't understand the family. I truly feel for them but I don't understand their thought processes.

Just to clarify, I went and had a look. It's a pic of Jahi from before the operation, for those who may have wondered (as I did) if they posted a pic of her in her current condition. They did not. It's an older picture of her playing in a pool or hottub.

I like this... "Everything that I've been through these past 2 months just hit me like a ton of bricks."

So self absorbed.

There have been many excellent posts in the last few pages, but this is the heart of this issue for me. It is extremely disheartening to see people viewing reason and science as the enemy; and to see celebration of that ignorance being incubated via social media.

On a lighter note:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IZeWPScnolo&desktop_uri=/watch?v=IZeWPScnolo

(Relevant, but also irreverent humor so may be offensive to the religiously inclined.)

So agree with you. Religious beliefs are going to be part of the legal arguments raised by Dolan, IIRC, so, IMO, the beliefs of the family are going to be scrutinized for some time to come. Particularly as OS stated the facility in which Jahi's body is now located was chosen on the basis that the beliefs of the people working in that facility were the same as those of the family.

Also, thanks for the reference.

Not sure why, but was reminded of Dennis Miller back in 2002, (http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic.php?style=4&f=7&t=12062) when he reminded us that "There's a difference between following Jesus and stalking him."

The rant from which this if from may also be offensive to the religiously inclined.

The religious argument is a bit confusing because it seems to be several different arguments at the same time.

1. Jahi is brain dead but brain dead is not dead, no one is dead until the heart stops according to our religion so Jahi is alive and disabled and must be allowed to remain so or it's murder.

2. Jahi is brain dead but God will heal her because we pray so hard.

3. Jahi is not brain dead, her feet are moving which means she has brain function so either it was a false diagnosis or there's been a miracle. God is good and the doctors don't know anything.

I don't know which religion this is.

Church of the Dollar Signs.

(Sorry, don't want to turn this into a free-for-all; FWIW most of my hostility is aimed at the attorney. I won't pretend to know the family's real motivations or beliefs, other than that we seem to know with some degree of certainty that Uncle Omari wants to be famous. We definitely know he thinks $250,000 is chump change.)

Oh sorry! Didn't mean to imply it was a new photo of her..in her current state. It is a new photo before her brain death..one that i hadnt seen before. :blushing:

Each time I see this thread in the new posts page, I keep hoping that the title of the thread will change in the same way that a missing/murdered person's thread title changes from "missing" to "found", or "arrest" to "guilty", but it suddenly occurred to me that the word I'd be looking for is "deceased", but she's already "deceased". I guess it has to change from "deceased" to "buried". What a crazy situation.
