I agree it sounds like the note writer probably was thinking about Islamics, and they had beheadings in Muhammed's day, and I haven't been watching them that closely, but wouldn't one of their factions, such as Al Qaida, make a really public big deal of taking credit?

That's a better explanation than assuming the Ramseys spent their time reading about beheading children.

I tried a web search for a list of beheaded children in America, no luck. Can someone think of a good search term? I did find where 3 children were found beheaded some place in Texas, and 3 MURDERED children were buried in Baltimore, a relative having been arrested, doesn't say beheaded. There was one "Precious Doe", I remember, and Adam Walsh.

NP, can you remember any other beheaded children in American crime? In the years before diabetes almost destroyed my eyes I used to read about cases, but not child beheadings. They're not that common. I did read The Michigan Coed Murders, which happened in my area, and one girl was heard to scream very loudly from the edge of a woods, by someone at a house pretty far away. They could see 2 or 3 white cars. She'd been raped with part of a tree branch, small enough that they could break it off I guess.

So I'm speculating, (as we all are) that when JonBenet screamed it was when she was assaulted with the jagged edge of the paint brush. Melody Stanton could have said she dreamed it, and Barnhill could have said the walker went on past the Ramseys' house to the rave party two doors away, but the walker evidently turned in at the Rs' house or Stanton and Barnhill wouldn't have been "silenced". I don't believe they were unreliable at all.

Awww, rashomon, you're making me blush...thank you very much. I must give credit to all of the people here at WS and at FFJ (and others, but those two sites are the best) who have been a source of information I hadn't previously known.

Eagle1, most of the killers I know of who have beheaded victims chose adults as victims. A killer who preys on children is a horse of a different color, but I'll check and see what I can find in regards to children being decapitated by their killers. I do know children have been beheaded by their own parents, but it just isn't common and isn't talked about much when it does happen.

The closest thing off the top of my head is the mother last year who went and cut off her baby daughter's arms and left her lying in the crib, bleeding to death. Not the same as cutting off the child's head, but pretty close. That story was truly disturbing.

They would. That, among other reasons, is what tipped the investigators off that this note was a phony.

But as far as my thinking that whatever occurred in JonBenet's bed was the initial stage of the events that led to her death, since fibers from the garrote cord were found there, do you agree? She had to have been tied up there and then moved to the basement.

Serial killers behead their victims a lot, Eagle1. I've read a lot of books about serial killers who make beheading part of their routine, sometimes for ease of disposal of the corpse, sometimes to make it harder to identify the corpse, sometimes just for the enjoyment they get from it.

Here's a modest list of a few people who have beheaded victims - Richard Ramirez, Cary Stayner, Gerard Schaefer Jr, Jeffrey Dahmer, even quiet little Ed Gein took a head off. Ed Kemper went to the extent of killing his mother, cutting her head off, and putting her vocal cords in the garbage disposal before raping her headless body.

I forgot his name, but one guy I read about not only killed his wife and cut her head off, he sat there with pliers and removed her teeth so it would be harder to identify her. Obviously it didn't work that well for him.

Lacy Peterson's body was found without a head...I didn't follow SP's case, did he behead her?

Beheading isn't as far out as it sounds to someone who has read some true crime books and knows that killers do it often. The Ramseys had a fair amount of crime books in their library.

well, laci peterson's head was missing but we don't know why. her body was in the ocean for 4 months. i don't think scottie not too hottie cut it off because then he would have had all that blood to deal with. i hate to say it, but i think being in the ocean for 4 months is what took her head off, same with her other missing limbs. remember, she didn't have arms to hold her baby with her in the coffin.
secondly, look at oj. he practically cut the heads off of nicole and ron goldman. now that was practically a beheading.
hope this clears it up. bottom line. the ramseys watched too many movies. did they threaten to behead in mel gibson's movie, ransom? just curious.

we know that dahmer beheaded also.
as mentioned above, for those that don't know ed gein, he's the original "psycho" where they got the idea for the movie. stayner was the guy who killed those women up about 2 hours from my old home (i want to say in the mountains, near yosemite)in hanford, calif where debbie hawk is missing. richard ramirez was the hillside strangler, correct? he did some nasty stuff to people. i keep my serial killers book in my bathroom and get caught up on occasion.

How horrible to think of Laci having no arms to hold her baby. That's heartbreaking. I'm relieved to hear that the supposition is that her head was lost while she was in the ocean as opposed to SP having removed it.

Actually, T-Rex, it was in the news. The summer of 1996 is really when the name Osama bin Laden was first broadcast to the mass of Americans. And even before 9/11, it was common knowledge that they cut off heads in that part of the world.

I didn't know that about Laci, (missing body parts) and I didn't realise she was missing for four months, how awful.

I'm not right up on the Holmolka case Ellen, but know the basics.
There is something wrong with our society if people like her can walk free.

Aren't quotes usually in a blue area? So I'm using the diagonals.
I've tried all sorts of search terms with google, trying to get a list. Gave up on beheadings in America and tried American Parents Who Murder Their Kids.
It all invariably goes foreign to countries where it's normal that I wasn't asking about. There were 3 kids near Baltimore whose YOUNG cousins were arrested for beheading one and almost beheading the other 2. Must have gotten tired, huh? Three kids beheaded in Ca were by parents, I think, and I didn't find any details about 3 kids beheaded near Brownsville, Tx.

Anyone know what part of Texas that's in? Anywhere near Houston? Not that it necessarily means anything. Just curious.
