In a summary of work performed produced by Morabito Consultants on October 13, 2020, the company reported it had discovered several issues, including potentially deep deterioration of concrete near the pool area.

Full restoration and repair work "could not be performed" because the pool "was to remain in service for the duration of the work" and because the necessary aggressive excavation of concrete at the pool "could affect the stability of the remaining adjacent concrete constructions."

Both appear to be in the building that collapsed.

One of those was sold by a 2018 board member. Jmo

On the last thread, a poster had mentioned that the penthouse number was 1020, but above the 12th floor.

Lots of hotels and other building avoid having a 13th floor.

Since there are fewer units on the penthouse floor, a higher number taken from the 10th floor series works.

That must have been some kind of error, because (according to the NYT graphic) this building had twelve floors (11+penthouse) and an upper penthouse on the 13-th floor with one large apartment labeled penthouse-A. Other penthouse apts are labeled penthouse 1, 2,...,12 (same number of apts on floors 2-12). Apartment #1012 (that was the actual number in the original post) would indicate apt 12 on the 10th floor which is two floors below the lower penthouse level.

I checked and I don't see #1012 labeled as a penthouse.

The town of Surfside is asking property owners of ocean-front buildings that are more than 30 years old and 3 stories high to hire a "geotechnical engineer" to examine their foundations and subsurface soils. They'll also have to get the 40-year certification a decade early.

A first responder who did not want to be identified confirmed to Local 10 News Friday that another rescuer found the body of his own daughter Thursday night as he was searching through the debris of the Champlain Towers South collapse.

The first responder said rescuers brought her down and the girl’s father draped his jacket over her body and placed a small American flag on the gurney.

The father, his brother and the other firefighters who dug her out escorted the body through a group of police officers and firefighters lined up on the roadway, the first responder said.

I know this was posted, but I wanted to ask if it is standard for the police dept to request witness tips and videos for a NIST investigation? Seems NIST is "also" asking for information aside from Miami Dade PD's investigation.

I think the 2020 report is the other report that I remembered reading. How the town inspector was so la dee da about this report and went as far to say that the building was fine is beyond me. I still feel like there was something weird between the inspector and the HOA.

That building's stability was a "no worries" consideration?

Can someone help me out as was viewing recently only on phone and cannot find where I saw such.... Looking for the article posted here from MSM which was a core sample from a report 1 or 2 years ago.


It was the proper length... but looked like 4 segments in that core. (To layperson, either it was 4 pours to meet the code of ~12 inches, or there were 3 horizontal faults through that sample........... dunno, just wanted to look at and read again this am vs. later last night on phone.. IIRC, the 4 segments of the core were labelled in the photo) ??? MOO, you can't do 4 pours to meet the minimum thickness??? I'll anticipate MSM (allowed on main thread) or others that are engineers covering (not allowed on Main thread) will be reporting on.

I haven't seen any reports on this from MSM yet.

IMO the the wording used in Moribito's reports are oddly lackadaisical. Some of the most dangerous people I have known have the personality type that they never raise the alarm about anything. When they should be yelling run they calmly walk away and don't alert anyone. I never left my kids alone with them.

I just woke up with a thought in my head — THE SECURITY GUARD!!

The resident of 111 said she heard noises and ran to the lobby to complain to the security guard because she thought it was construction. Then she was standing there with the security guard when the pool deck collapsed, which they both thought was an earthquake. The woman returned to her apartment to get her children and flee.

WHAT DID THE GUARD DO? Seven minutes passed between the “earthquake” and the collapse. Why didn’t he sound the fire alarm to wake up all the residents? Did he leave the lobby to go check on things? Did he survive?

I think interviewing this guard is going to be important if he is still around.

Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas is now in Port Miami offering accommodation to 600 first responders and their search dogs working the Surfside Collapse.

Hopefully there are many more offerings of housings closer than a port terminal that is 40 minutes away as I would have expected that to have been set up and prioritized. Seems too far for first responders to travel to on their off hours... and difficulties getting into terminal and on ship before they put their head on a bed readying for the next 12 hours. Is that area really that loaded up and they cannot find placements for such nearer?

I wondered about him too. I suspect, since he has not be ID'd as the security guard that I am aware of, nor has he been interviewed in MSM, he likely perished? Perhaps he went to help others instead of running out of the building. Security staff I've had contact with are generally very loyal and willing to help, especially since security these days means so much more than it did decades ago.
