Death investigation underway after body found in vacant Fellsmere lot

FELLSMERE, Fla. —

A death investigation is underway in Fellsmere after a body was found in a vacant, residential lot late Saturday afternoon.

Around 4 p.m., Fellsmere police officers were dispatched to investigate an empty piece of land off North Willow and Lincoln streets after a report was made of discovered human remains in that area.

According to investigators, the remains were so severely decomposed they could not determine the race, gender nor manner of death. However, the sheriff's office says personal items were found beneath the body that they believe will likely help in identification.

Detectives said they believe her disappearance to be the result of crime.

Case records show Towne was reported missing by a family member March 5, 2020.

Sheriff's detectives learned she was last seen by someone at a home in the 13400 block of 99th St. three days earlier in the early morning hours of March 2.

In a video published June 30 on Facebook, Sheriff Eric Flowers and detectives discussed the case and said there were multiple people they were interested in as suspects, but asked the public — especially Fellsmere residents — to report anything they know about the case or remember from the time of her disappearance.

The Indian River Sheriff investigating similarities between two missing mothers.

Indian River County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body recovered is in fact Allea Beemer.

The development of the connection came during a news conference Wednesday.

The Sheriff believes Beemer’s death may have connections to the disappearance of Amanda Towne. The 28-year-old disappeared in 2020. Both women visited the same areas and have connections to similar people.

I've read through the posts on Amanda Towne's case, and here are a few of the key points in Amanda's disappearance that I found noteworthy:

• She was last seen on March 2, 2020, at her aunt's residence on 99th Street.
• She planned to walk to her boyfriend's home, about a half-mile away, but the boyfriend said Amanda never arrived.
• She was reported missing by a family member on March 5, 2020.
• There's been no activity on her phone since her disappearance.
• She had three children, two sons and a daughter between 3 and 12 years old at the time of her disappearance.
• Her children had been placed in the custody of another relative before she disappeared.
• She never was out of contact with her children before she disappeared.
• Amanda was known to have substance abuse issues.
• She had no permanent residence and was moving from house-to-house of relatives in the area.
• She lost her job just before she disappeared.
• LE recovered a blue GMC vehicle and other "items of interest" from the property where Towne slept the night she went missing (her aunt's residence I believe) but no details were released.
• Searchers found items belonging to Towne after she disappeared along 141st Avenue near the C-54 Canal, but no details released.
• LE believe her disappearance to be the result of crime, and possibly a connection with Allea Beemer's disappearance since they knew some of the same people.

Does all of this sound correct?

If I have the right location identified, this link shows the area where LE was looking for Amanda in April of 2020:

97th St and 141st Ave

It's mostly a rural, wooded area, some homes nearby, with a small canal/drainage area running parallel to 141st Avenue. If I read these various MSM links correctly I think some of Amanda's personal items were found in this general area.

Good case summary, Dargon. Thank you.

Yes, that's where the items were found. To give some perspective, this is (roughly) where she was last seen and supposedly headed to - her bf's house 1/2 mile south on North Hickory St.

13400 99th St to North Hickory Street - Google Maps

But, this (again, roughly) is what the possible route looks like from where she was last seen and where LE found the items of interest.

13400 99th St to 97th St & 141st Ave - Google Maps

I'm not married to this theory or anything, but I think it's possible that Amanda wasn't truthful about going to her boyfriend's house. It was 3 a.m. when she left. She has substance abuse issues. She couldn't exactly tell her nephew that she was going after drugs, you know? So, I have to leave open the possibility that she was meeting up with someone else. MOO

@PommyMommy , thanks for the input and the maps. That is something I was thinking about as well, especially after the Sara Otero case, where Sara told a family member she was going to the gym but apparently never intended to go there. Something similar may have happened here but we can't be sure.

Since Amanda had known substance abuse issues it is certainly possible she she intended to meet someone else instead of going to her BF's house. It was 3:00 AM and her BF lived about 1/2 mile away, so walking alone, in the dark, at that time of night is both suspicious and dangerous.

We don't know much about Amanda's BF, or details of statements he gave to LE. The only thing I've seen in the MSM reports is that he said Amanda never arrived at his house that night. It would be helpful to know if Amanda contacted him before leaving her aunt's home. We also don't know much about him, his background, etc.

I'm wondering if her phone was on at this time. If so, LE might be able to track her movements based on her phone location, and I'm sure they would have checked into that shortly after she disappeared.

Interesting to note the the location where Amanda's personal items were found, 97th St and 141st Ave, is in the opposite direction of her BF's house. PommyMommy's maps show the routes well.

Also, how does this blue GMC pickup truck come into play in this case? AFAIK there was no followup announcement from LE about that.

Amanda Nicole Towne – The Charley Project

Last updated February 15, 2022; details of disappearance updated.

Details of Disappearance
Towne was last seen at her aunt's residence in the 13400 block of 99th Street in a rural area north of Fellsmere, Florida at about 3:00 a.m. on March 2, 2020.

She showed up in the night while her aunt and her aunt's husband were asleep, spoke to her nephew, then left again. She told her nephew she planned to walk back to her boyfriend's home, half a mile south on north Hickory Street. Her boyfriend stated she never arrived. She has never been heard from again.

According to her family, Towne had a troubled history, including drug use, and was staying at various relatives' homes at the time of her disappearance. She had lost custody her three children, who were placed with a family member, and just before she went missing, she lost her job. In spite of the problems in her life, however, she could always be reached by phone and she never lost touch with her children or went more than a couple of days without contacting her family.

Since Towne was last seen, there has been no activity on her bank accounts or cellular phone. Her case may be linked to the murder of Allea Beemer. 38-year-old Beemer moved from Indiana to Florida about six weeks prior to her disappearance from Fellsmere on January 31, 2022. She was found murdered on February 11.

Investigators haven't said how she died or where she was found, but stated they "haven't ruled out" the possibility that Towne's case was related. Both women were involved in the local drug culture.

A photo of Beemer is posted with this case summary. Both her murder and Towne's disappearance remain unsolved.

Searchers continue quest for missing woman on second anniversary of disappearance

March 02, 2022
Wednesday marks exactly two years since an Indian River County woman went missing. But that hasn’t stopped those looking for Amanda Towne of Fellsmere.

Towne was last seen at a home off 99th Street.

Towne's case recently got a lot more attention after the body of another missing woman was recently found in Fellsmere.

Allea Beemer was found near the end of 111th Street. She was killed sometime between Jan. 31 and Feb. 2 of this year.

The sheriff’s office said there are some similarities between the two cases and have several persons of interest.

Searchers continue quest for missing woman on second anniversary of disappearance
"Wednesday marks exactly two years since an Indian River County woman went missing. But that hasn’t stopped those looking for Amanda Towne of Fellsmere. Along a dirt road, Erika Torok and Susan Farris peered into a canal on Wednesday. They found a phone case and other personal items that belonged to Towne, a mother of three now missing for two years."

I recall reading earlier MSM reports that some of Amanda's personal items had been found but very few details were provided. Just to make sure I'm clear, does this mean that two days ago, on 3/2/2022, "a phone case and other personal items that belonged to Towne" were found in a canal?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's just poor reporting. I think what the author meant to convey was that on Wednesday, they peered into the canal where they found the phone case and other personal items two years ago. But, that's JMO.

@PommyMommy Thanks for the reply. I read that sentence several times and the way I interpreted it the searchers found a phone case and some other items on 3/2/22, two years after Amanda went missing. IMO it would be very unlikely that small personal items like that would be found in a canal along the road two years later.

This discovery in 2020 certainly makes sense, but would make much less sense two years later.

Not sure they'll find her remains. C-54 canal - Yikes! I hope I'm wrong.

My mother and her husband lived near there back in the early 80s. He owned a boat and would take us to the C-54 canal to teach us to water ski. I don't remember which boat ramp we went to. Us kids were in our late teens, early 20s. Looking back now it seems dangerous that we even did that. At the time we were not as well educated on alligators as we are now.

Also, homeless camps may have been close to where her personal items were found. There's the state park and all kinds of recreation areas nearby. There were/are rudimentary restrooms with running water which attracts homeless folks.
