I don't disagree with you, but bearing this in mind wouldn't this make her more likely to awaken to an intruder if she was anticipating the return of the father around this time?

Not if she were taken hours earlier. GF went to bed at 10:30 and around 3 AM she wakes up and finds her gone, that's 4 and a half hours.

How would an intruder know that night what the sleeping arrangment in the dark bedroom was, on this particular night Haleigh was in a bed alone and Jr. was in the bed with MC. I am thinking more and more either MC knows more or Haleigh really got out and will be found fairly close by.

Good point about not knowing the sleeping arrangements.

Maybe they aren't into little boys. Some pedophiles are into only little girls and some little boys and probably some are into both.

True. The GF's story about the Jr being in bed with her is probably true. The boy being in bed with her could be why the CP didn't take him b/c the CP didn't want chance waking the GF up.

Maybe it is what "slightly" woke her up tho. I know I do that when I am in a deep sleep. I will hear something and I go right back to sleep. A short time later...I wake up and get my bearings...but don't know exactly what woke me. Make sense?

You know - it has just dawned on me...

A good explanation for the screen door being propped open is - someone did pick the lock. They would want the screen door back out of the way so that they were free to work the lock.

No, according to the police report GF claims she was only aware of the missing child for 5 minutes before Dad got home. Dad's immediate response is to tell her to call the police without even a cursory search of the house, let alone searching the neighborhood. Police were on the scene in like 6 minutes. Doesn't sound right does it?

GRACE: Exactly. Mr. Cummings, you said the door was propped open. Describe to me what you saw when you got home.

CUMMINGS: I came in the house and immediately checked all the bedrooms, the bathroom, everywhere, just to be sure, and walked to the back door, it was wide open. As I walked out the back door, the screen door was propped open with a cinderblock.

Willen, most sexual predators not only prefer one sex over the other, but have preferences specific to age groups. It is rare a predator takes more than one child because the abduction is part of the fantasy for him, imo.

Except for a Duncan who kidnapped both a boy and a girl and raped both of them.

I'm not sure about the gf, but yet I find it hard to believe that if she was involved directly and not accidentally that Haleigh would have been found by now. In the other famous Florida case the perp was able to conceal the victim, but that was because no one knew to look for her yet and then weather and time played it's role. This gf was working on a short timeframe and with another child if we are sure the child was seen at 5:45 playing and then gone at 3am. She couldn't have gone far and the other child would have said something by now. I don't know what to believe....I think I'm leaning toward SO though.

I guess it would be helpful to know if they always slept like this. It's a pretty risky move for a predator to enter a bedroom where three people are sleeping, although 2 of those people are children and one is a teenager, still risky. Had to have been someone who knew them, Dad at work, or had been watching for a while. If it was an abduction.

Ok the kitchen light being on

I don't get that part either unless Haliegh got up herself and went to the kitchen, turned the light on and then what... goes outside by herself? opens the back door and props it open with a cememt block so it wouldn't lock on her. Why?

Haleigh gets up, goes to the kitchen and turns the light on gets her drink or whatever and goes back to bed, leaving the light on. Perp is watching, sees the child, comes in the back door and props it open so he can carry her out. Goes to bedroom and snatches her from the bed without making any noise to wake up Misty or Jr.

Door shows no sign of forced entry. Perp has a key. Perp was already in the house and hiding. Perp came in front door and let himself out the back. Perp was a visitor to the home that day and unlocked back door to return later.

The new 13 y/o friend Blinky, that seems to have made friends with him just days before Chad disappeared obviously his parents are unaware because their son is still connected to the site.

I have the email address for the Sheriff were Blinky claims to live. I am debating sending the wanted poster, the myspace links and pointing out that Blinky has been chatting with this loser.

Please do it Impatientredhead! I support you fully and was thinking of calling the tip line on the poster to report the myspace. We do not want another child to go missing. If it is in error, make the error on the safe side. I encourage you, I support you, and you will be my hero! :blowkiss:

There is just TOO much here,

All in one bedroom and the perp enters the bedroom and takes Haleigh out of the home with neither the 17 year old or the younger brother hearing anything.
At the same time that 17 year old wakes to go to bathroom and notices Haleigh is not in bed, Dad arrives home...
Kitchen light is on, per 17 year old, when she awakes at 3 am, it was off when she went to sleep...what perp turns on a light in the home ?
What perp carries and places a cinder block to hold the back door open ?
Dad swears back door is ALWAYS locked, and was locked that night, yet police confirm no signs of forced entry.
I don't know, there's just a LOT of sketchy parts to this story...

Maybe Haleigh got up to get a drink, or go to the bathroom and heard a noise (the perp). She turns on the kitchen light and sees that it's friendly "Joe" at the door, so she doesn't cry out to alarm Misty (who is sleeping through this.)

I am scratching my head about the cinder block...also the fact that dad swears that door is always locked. I personally would swear that MY backdoor is always locked, but have needed quick access into my own house and was stunned (and relieved at the same time) that it was actually left unlocked. *Thank God for security alarms!!*

I'm curious about Misty's phone records...not necessarily because I think she's guilty, but because I think it could pinpoint her whereabouts (if she had stepped out and left the children alone) and/or narrow the time when she went to bed.

Just realized something. MC said she put Haleigh to bed in front of the TV in the bedroom. Did she say whether that TV was on or off?

Not if she were taken hours earlier. GF went to bed at 10:30 and around 3 AM she wakes up and finds her gone, that's 4 and a half hours.

I suppose so, however it strikes me as strange that someone who hypothetically has conditioned themselves to wake around the time that their boyfriend comes home (due to disrupted sleep) would sleep so deeply that they would not notice an intruder.

  • #195
Did I read that there was a TV on next to Haleighs bed? Could someone have peered in the window from the outside, and by the light of the TV, been able to see the sleeping arrangements before entering the house?

About the cinder block and the door being propped open. If Misty did do something to Haleigh maybe she propped the door open so she would have an easier way of getting the girls body out of there without getting like evidence or something on the door? IDK just a thought.

We don't know if the perp took her out of her bed or not. For all we know...he/she could have knocked on the wall beside her to wake her or knocked on the door for her to open it. Don't forget the kitchen light was on. Haleigh was quite capable of turning it on and opening the front door, imo. Maybe she thought it was her father or maybe she knew the perp.

Absolutely. Hell, I amazed that she was able to wake when she did on just four hours of sleep! I would be dead to the world, intruder or otherwise...which is why I am surprised that she woke before the return of the boyfriend at all.

Maybe it was a habit to wake up about that time since it was his routine. He probably woke her a bit when he came home every night with the door, unloading work stuff, getting undressed, etc. I didn't find it odd really.

This might have been put out there already (page & 1/2 behind) but the father mentioned in one of the interviews he found it strange the gf was awake as she is usally asleep when he came home from work.

One thing that's been really nagging at me is the dad's assertion that that back door was ALWAYS locked. Ok - he may have locked/checked it before he left for work, but who's to say "someone" didn't unlock it later?

ETA - Also - I have 2 teenagers, 17 and 19. Yes, they could sleep through a marching band, but more importantly, they DO NOT go to bed at 10:00 or 10:30. I find it odd that the GF would have gone to bed that early. Especially this girl. Doesn't seem believable to me at all.
